If you were a teenager in the 2010s, there’s a chance you’ve been waiting for this day to come without even knowing it. When the Jonas brothers came back to the scene with new music after getting married and starting their own families, everyone was shocked and also delighted. The trio are now back at it, in a Christmas movie that feels straight out of a fever dream. The film follows the brothers as Will Ferrell’s favorite band on tour in London. The film sees the trio all stressing about their own thing, basically how the other two brothers look down upon them or make fun of them, or just don’t appreciate them enough, until a “modern” Santa (you know I had to) gives them a shot at a Christmas miracle, to find that bond again, and become the beloved brothers everyone is obsessed with. Will they manage to do it before Christmas Day, though? Let’s find out in A Very Jonas Christmas Movie.
Spoiler Alert
What Happens With Gene?
After getting from London to Amsterdam instead of Paris and then trying to drive to Hamburg by themselves, the Jonas brothers get stranded with only one man available to save them. Gene is Cassidy’s ex-boyfriend, and a very handsome and hot pilot. But here’s the thing: the breakup’s been just as hard on Gene as it has on Cassidy, and when he sees a very obviously fake photo of her with a random shirtless man on her socials, he decides to take some shirtless photos himself while leaving the flight on autopilot. Nick goes to find him because the flight’s getting bumpy, only to get pulled in as his photographer. They even leave the cockpit, and the other brothers encourage Nick to get a perfect picture because otherwise Gene will continue to be distracted. For good lighting, Joe lights up one of his scented candles, a piece of merch Nick and he can’t stop arguing about (love how Wick by Nick stayed lit in the end).
So, somehow Gene ends up nearly unconscious, and the brothers manage to get the flight off autopilot, leaving a groggy Gene to only just manage to save them from fully crashing. But this is, of course, all thanks to Santa’s plan for the brothers. This is when the candle comes into play, and the flight catches fire, leaving the brothers and Gene stranded in a very snowy forest. But in that moment, when Gene suggests he’ll set up camp for all of them, Nick gets mad and yells at him that they need to get out of there, and his ex is useless. Gene tells Nick to keep Cassidy’s name out of his mouth, but Nick decides this is the moment to act like a child and says her name 3 times, sending Gene away, leaving the boys fully stranded by themselves. A song about loneliness within a group follows before the boys realize they still love each other, all thanks to a pack of wolves coming to attack them. They do their usual huddle, saying the words that remind them how much they mean to each other, and suddenly the wolves disappear, and it looks like there’s gold dancing in the sky. It’s a Christmas miracle, and the Jonas Brothers are back at it! This is when Brad, their manager, shows up on a sleigh to take them back home.
What Happens With Lucy?
On the train to Paris (which happens to be headed to Amsterdam instead), Joe meets a childhood flame named Lucy. They reconnect, and he actually feels like they might have something going on, but she has to leave. Then, they happen to bump into each other at the Ethan concert that ends in a “Home Alone” disaster thanks to Nick, but this leaves Joe some alone time with Lucy. At first, he wants to tell his brothers that he thinks there’s something there, but he decides against it because they’re always mean to each other. The duo go and take a dip in the cold water in the middle of nowhere, but Nick manages to get them tickets out of there at the last moment, which means he has to get back to his brothers. This leaves Joe and Lucy’s love story hanging in the air, but we’ll get back to that in the end.
Do The Brothers Get All Their Wishes?
The Jonas Brothers each have a wish in this movie. Nick wants to go back to his family for Christmas, Kevin wants to be lead vocalist on a song, and Joe just wants to be happy, I guess, or he doesn’t want to be seen as a womanizer? Anyway, Nick’s wish comes true when the boys finally manage to get back home thanks to Brad’s rescue mission. They decide to celebrate Christmas at Kevin’s place, and everyone’s there. Then, in the final song of the movie, Kevin sings a part too, making us all realize he’s always been the best Jonas. Ahaha, I’m only kidding; maybe that’s actually Frankie.
In A Very Jonas Christmas Movie’s ending, Nick and Kevin get Lucy to come to the house too, because they now know that Joe felt a connection with her and want to see that turn into something more. When Lucy shows up, everyone watches as Joe makes a fool of himself but tells her he likes her. Before we know it, she’s been invited to spend Christmas with his entire family, everyone’s kids included (love how it’s all girls, so cute). At the same time, Nick is reunited with Pri and Matli, while Kevin is delighted to be back with Danielle. It’s a happy Christmas Day with everyone there. More importantly, now that the trio have talked it out, they can finally be happy as a band again, and the tour will continue, much to the pleasure of Stacy. A month later, we see them perform “Sucker” on stage. I wonder if this is going to become a future Christmas tradition. Maybe we’ll get a Demi cameo next time around, eh?
