Honestly, I really don’t know what’s going on with this show, but hey, we’ve already got news that All’s Fair has been renewed for another season (somebody please explain to me). I really don’t know why there was the whole thing with Carrington referring to her cat with the other word I can’t mention here. Last week, we saw Carr and 2/3rd of the trio set things straight, but I might’ve forgotten that Liberty has to approve of this new friendship, too, and this episode pushes the idea that she feels like an outsider, leaving room for Carr to replace her. Obviously, this isn’t going to happen, and though Liberty feels like her Downton Abbey accent is the reason she always feels like an outsider, no matter how long she’s lived in America, she still doesn’t feel like she fits into the American sorority. But more importantly, this episode is about Dina and her difficulty in letting go of Doug, hence the episode title, “Letting Go.” Anyway, with that said, let’s jump straight into episode 7.
Spoiler Alert
What Advice Does Allura Give Chase?
All’s Fair episode 7 begins with Dina getting dressed to go to bed, and it looks like everything’s normal, and I almost felt like I misread the situation in episode 6, where I thought Doug had died, but turns out Dina just isn’t able to accept that yet. She’s even talking to Doug as if he’s still alive and well next to her, but this is not the case. Meanwhile, back at the firm, Liberty tells the other two how she tried to make a call to Dina’s, but the maid picked up. But the other two did get to talk to Dina, and know that she just wants some space. This prompts Allura to talk about loss as if what she’s facing with Chase is the same as what Dina’s going through, but Emerald calls her out on this, which is great. However, this is what makes Liberty tell the other two how she’s always felt like an outsider, and this proves it. She also talks about how Allura scheduled her divorce hearing on the day she knew Liberty couldn’t be in town.
The next thing you know, Liberty goes to see Dina, but Carr happens to have the same plan. Guess they’re actually birds of a feather, but that’s something we can discuss later. Liberty’s brought a shepherd’s pie, and Carr’s brought a baked ziti from a popular restaurant chain, but what they find inside is Dina making an omelette for herself, one that Doug taught her how to make. It’s nice to see her actually doing something, but Liberty points out how she shouldn’t be alone at this difficult time. Dina then says she’s not alone, and that he’s with her upstairs (yikes). Suddenly, we’re seeing Carr tell Dina a story about how she didn’t let go of her dead cat when she was a kid and kept it in her bed for days. Honestly, we don’t even need it paraphrased, but somehow Dina gets comforted by Carr’s words, and that gives Liberty her cue to leave while the understanding Carr stays back to help Dina.
Meanwhile, Allura and Chase meet for a drink, and Allura tells Chase that Doug’s death has given her a new perspective, so she forgives Chase and wants to part on good terms. But also, she’s given him papers of everything they’ve discussed down to the T because she doesn’t want them to have any regrets in the future. But anyway, while they’re having dinner, she also points out that Chase has a sex addiction and that he might’ve hurt many people along the way. Emerald’s made things much easier because she’s already got a lot of names for Chase to make it easy for him to find his ex-lovers. On the other hand, Liberty tries to come back to see Dina, only to find that Carr has basically set up house there. So she has to hand over the flowers to Carr, but at least she gets invited to a wake that Carr herself organized. On the other hand, Chase goes about apologizing to everybody on his list and making amends. Maria, the transwoman he wasn’t willing to go public with, also accepts his apology, saying their fling was transactional for both of them, and she also came to some understandings because of their time together, but honestly, it feels like a free pass to me.
Does Dina Let Go Of Doug?
Finally, when it comes time for Chase to apologize to Milan, he comes back to Allura for help because she wants nothing to do with him. Allura agrees to help him if he gets rid of the other agenda on his mind: getting back together with Allura. But the meeting really doesn’t go well, because Chase goes on to talk about men’s rights and how he’s going to fight Milan in court for full custody. Man, this guy is honestly such a manchild. I mean, it fully makes sense why Milan wouldn’t want him in her child’s life.
On the other hand, Emerald makes it to the wake and Carr’s an entirely different person with her now, vulnerable and actually nice? Carr tells Emerald that she might’ve made a mistake setting up the wake and all that, because Dina’s not coming down and is still with Doug. Emerald tells her she did a good job, and it’s the single mums who always manage to get things done in situations like this. Carr reacts like she’s a child who just received their favourite present, but even Emerald can’t get Dina to leave Doug, because by the time she gets her out of the room, Liberty shows up with men dressed in plaid quilts playing music for a “proper” goodbye. Big mistake yet again, Liberty. Okay, Dina did open up to Emerald a little bit, but the truth is, she knows that only she can decide when the time’s up, and everyone needs to just leave her alone. Also, can we talk about how her hair looks perfect even when she’s supposed to be grieving?
Ultimately, it’s when Allura shows up, and all of them decide to go talk to Dina, despite the bickering between Liberty and Carr that Dina finally seems to hurt just a little less. They talk about how she and Doug are an anomaly in this town because they’ve achieved so much, and their marriage was still standing strong until the day he died. But it’s when Emerald talks about how the thing that keeps us alive is actually energy, and that energy has now moved on, that Dina sighs in defeat. Finally, Dina says goodbye to the love of her life.
At the end of All’s Fair episode 7, Allura breaks her own vow (well, I don’t think it’s a vow, but you know), and goes back to Chase. The episode ends the next morning with Chase asking Allura if they should give this thing another chance. Now, this obviously doesn’t mean another marriage, but just being together again. Do you think Allura will end up pregnant at some point? This is Murphy, there’s a fat chance the season ends with something like that.
