Published

Directed by Kalees, Baby John follows the life of a DSP named Satya Verma, who fought for justice all his life and made sure that the rule of law prevailed. But then something unprecedented happened in his life, and he had to change his ways. Atlee aims to create a cop universe, and so many more cops-turned-vigilantes will be a part of this world and support Baby John to fight for the country and help the downtrodden and the underprivileged. So, let’s explore the events of the film in a chronological order to find out if Baby John was able to save his daughter or not.

Spoiler Alert

How did Satya meet Meera?

DCP Satya Verma was a no-nonsense cop, and he was the kind of man who knew that one had to be a part of the system to fix it. Whenever he saw a person being oppressed, he couldn’t help but raise his voice. Satya had a very good reputation in society and even in his department. Obviously, when a person is that honest, he has enemies, but Satya knows how to deal with them. Satya had achieved everything in his life, and that is why his mother wanted him to get married as soon as possible. But Satya had a problem: he hadn’t found a girl who could put up with him and his high-risk job. He was always very reluctant about going and meeting girls, but his mother never left him any option. One fine day, when Satya was returning with his mother after seeing a prospective girl for marriage, he saw that a few kids were begging on the streets. Satya had a heart of gold, and he asked the kids if they would like to study if he funded their education. Before they could say anything, a man came out of nowhere, and he asked the children, very rudely, to do as they were told. Satya realized that the man hurt the kids and forced them to beg on the street. Satya taught the goons a lesson, and after that, he took them to a hospital to get treated. A doctor named Meera attended to them, and she got very angry as she presumed that it was yet another case of police brutality. But when Meera heard the entire story, she felt guilty for her initial assumption. Moreover, she was smitten by Satya’s kindheartedness. Meera fell for our DCP, and that’s where their love story began. Meera and Satya wanted to spend an entire lifetime together, but Meera knew that, to do that, Satya would have to convince her father, who hated just one thing in life: men clad in “khaki” uniforms.

What happened between Satya and Nanaji?

There were people who were underprivileged, and there were those who were extremely powerful and influential. Then, there was a third category of people who were not only influential but extremely lethal and dangerous. Nanaji, aka Babbar Sher, was one such person. He didn’t hold any position in the government, but still, the ministers lined up outside his house because they knew that nobody could even lift a finger without his support. One day, Nanaji’s son Ashwin came to him and told him that he had been stopped at a toll booth. Ashwin wanted respect, and he told his father that he needed the people to salute him and that he wanted to become a minister. Nanaji didn’t waste a moment and declared that his son would be the next finance minister. After that, Ashwin did not stop. One day he kidnapped a girl named Amba, and for more than a couple of days, he and his men brutally raped the poor soul. The parents of the victim somehow managed to contact DCP Satya and told him about their plight. Satya investigated the matter sincerely, and he was able to locate the victims’ location with the help of a stray dog, which might be a reference to Jackie Shroff’s film Teri Meherbaniyan. The girl was burnt to death in front of Satya’s eyes, and he couldn’t do anything about it.

Satya went to meet Nanaji, and he realized that the shrewd man had already filed an unofficial report, as apparently, his son had been missing for the last 3 days. There were people in the police force like Baldev Patil who worked for Nanaji, and I believe that even Yashraj Mukherjee, the commissioner, was on his payroll. Satya was able to find Ashwin, and he realized that there was no point in following the law and procedure, as it wouldn’t take Nanaji more than an hour to free his son.

Ram Sevak, the constable who was a staunch loyalist of Satya, also believed that such people needed to be punished in the harshest manner. So Satya did the unthinkable, and he burnt Ashwin and his gang members to death, exactly as they killed Amba. When Nanaji came to the crime scene, Satya admitted that he was the one who had killed his son, and that was probably the biggest mistake that he made.

Why did Satya go to Kerala?

Nanaji’s pride was hurt, and the wounded lion, as he would like to be called, took a vow to take revenge for his son’s death. Meanwhile, Satya, after putting in a lot of effort, was able to convince Meera’s father to let him marry her. Meera’s father always felt that if his daughter stayed with a police officer, then her life would be endangered, but Satya assured him that no such thing would happen to them as he did not support violence. But Meera’s father’s worst fears turned true after their marriage, when Nanaji, together with his brother and Baldev Patil, came to Satya’s house and killed his wife and mother. The plan was to kill the entire family, but somehow Satya was able to survive, and he managed to save his daughter, Khushi, too. Meera, while taking her last breath, made Satya promise her that he would leave his job and go to a far-off place where he could ensure the safety of their daughter. Satya loved his job as much as he loved Meera; he felt that it was his duty to fight for the downtrodden, but at that moment, he gave his wife his word. The house was reduced to ashes, and Satya was declared dead. But Satya had been able to escape from the house just moments before the explosion. After that Satya settled in a village in Kerala, and he changed his name so that nobody could recognize him. His loyal friend and subordinate, Ram Sevak, also went with him, and together they opened a bakery and started working there under the aliases of John and Jackky respectively.

Was Babbar Sher Dead Or Alive?

Some six years later, Khushi and Satya were leading a peaceful life in Kerala, and the former had no clue who her father was in his past life. Satya lived like a commoner, and he changed as a person because he didn’t want any sort of conflict with anybody. Soon, his peaceful life was disrupted when he had an argument with some local goons who worked for a mafia don named Rao. Rao ran a human trafficking syndicate, and once, when his minions were trafficking a girl, they bumped into Satya, Khushi, and Tara (Khushi’s teacher). Nobody knew up until then, but Tara was an undercover agent working for the law enforcement authorities and her real name was Adhira Verman. Tara was smitten by Satya, and eventually, she realized that Satya was hiding his real identity. Tara filed a complaint against Rao, and the latter didn’t like that fact. Rao’s men reached Satya’s house as they needed to teach him a lesson.

At first, Satya apologized to them and pleaded for mercy, but the moment they told him that they were going to hurt his daughter, his entire demeanor changed. Satya taught the goons a lesson, and Tara also realized that Baby John was DCP Satya Verma. Nanaji also got a whiff of whatever transpired in Kerala, and he again started hounding Satya. Nanaji tried to kill Khushi by ordering her school bus driver to orchestrate an accident. The school bus fell into the river, but Satya somehow was able to save his daughter. Satya felt guilty as there were many kids who lost their lives that day, and that’s when he decided to come out of his shell and teach Nanaji a lesson. Satya wanted to finish what he had started, so he went back to Mumbai to grapple the bull by its horns. Satya first killed Baldev Patil, and then he started doing his background research to track Nanaji’s movements and activities and pin him down. Tara, Khushi, and Ram Sevak also accompanied him to Mumbai, and that was probably one misjudgment on Satya’s part.

Nanaji was able to find their location by letting his brother get killed by Satya, and he used this opportunity to kidnap Khushi and Tara. Satya had no option but to come out of his den. Satya was brutally thrashed, and Nanaji told him that his daughter, together with other girls, was being shipped in a cargo container to an undisclosed location. Khushi and Tara, who were locked inside the cargo container, started punching the walls from inside, and as a result, the container fell, making Satya aware of where they were held captive. Satya, at the end of Baby John, was able to save Khushi, Tara, and all the other girls. Satya didn’t kill Nanaji, he just left him to the girls and gave them the freedom to do whatever they wanted to do. Now, though the girls charged towards Babbar Sher with the intent of killing him, the film didn’t show us if they executed the deed or if they left him alive. So it is possible that Babbar Sher, aka Nanaji, is still alive, and Satya will once again encounter him in the next installment of the franchise. If Nanaji is left alive, then I think it would be a huge mistake because he is not the kind of man who would let things go, and he will surely cause trouble in Satya’s life.

What Happens In The Mid-Credit Scene?

In the mid-credit scene, we saw that 2 years had passed since the incident that took place at the dockyard, and Satya and Tara carried out several missions during that time in their quest to pin down the international human trafficking syndicate. At the end of Baby John, we came to know that Satya’s superior, Yashraj Mukherjee, had been conspiring with the international human trafficking syndicate, and he took Tara and Satya as captives. The mafia bosses were quite sure that they would be able to eliminate both officers, but just then, Mukerjee told them that they had an ally, a superior of theirs, who was more lethal than them both combined. That’s when agent Bhaijaan made an emphatic entry, and he turned the odds in the favor of Satya and Tara. Bhaijaan (Salman Khan) killed Mukherjee and all the other members of the syndicate. In the end, Bhaijaan, Satya, and Tara were able to overpower their nemesis, and they were finally free. I believe that in the next film that Salman Khan is doing with Atlee, we will find out what Bhaijaan’s past was and why he became an undercover agent. Also, I think that Baby John and Bhaijaan will cross paths once again, as the former will need Bhaijaan’s help for his future missions.
