‘Buried Hearts’ Episode 10 Recap & Ending Explained: Does Seo Dongju Meet His Biological Dad?

Published

The 10th episode of the Disney K-drama is titled “I’d Like To Meet You Just Once.” Now, this sounds like quite the romantic title, but after having seen the episode, I can tell you that it’s about Dongju and the man he thought was his biological father. Buried Hearts episode 10 is a little bit of a drag compared to the rest of the show because it seems we can’t have things fall into place so early on. This means the back-and-forth between Yeom and Dongju will continue for a little bit longer despite everything that went down in episode 9. Having said that, in this episode we still don’t learn exactly what the Dandelion Team is. But it seems a lot of what Dongju knows about his life has all been a lie. With that said, let’s dive straight into the episode.

Spoiler Alert

Does Seonu Know He’s The Chairman’s Son?

Episode 10 picks up straight at the end of episode 9 with Dongju in Ildo’s office. Ildo asks Dongju if he ever actually lost his memory, to which Dongju replies, if he hadn’t lost his memory, why would he have saved Ildo? But, in a flashback, we see that he did recognize that he was the man who killed him, but he told Won-Bae that he saved him so he could have his revenge later. Just as their conversation is ending, Taehyun comes rushing to tell his dad that Dongju woke up, but Dongju is standing fit and fine in front of him. Back at the office, Dongju stands in front of Chief Choi, who is set to become the next director of Daesan. Ildo is insulted yet again by Dongju, so I suppose this is the kind of revenge he was talking about.

In the office, Yeom is seated like he owns the place. He tells the chairman that he’s got The Elder to fix everything with the Daesan Energy project. He says he told the President that he shouldn’t ignore a partner of the National Patriotism Project, but these are the exact words the President used describing what Dongju told him. The Chairman tells Yeom that since the energy project is all good now, Dongju will transfer a good amount of money to the Swiss account. The Chairman doesn’t know that Dongju is the one managing that account, but at the same time, Ildo tries to get the Chairman to pay Yeom directly. Dongju tells the Chairman that Yeom would rather save face in front of the Elder because that’s what he values most.

After hearing that Chief Choi is going to become the director, Yeom beats up Ildo so hard that he begins to bleed from his head. The ringing in Ildo’s ears takes him back to a long time ago (presumably) when he started to work for Yeom. Ildo was just a 20-something-year-old back then, but Yeom had him beaten up for information. Ildo refused to give in, so Yeom pretended he was helping him by cleaning up the blood before handing him the pen again. But it all ended with Yeom giving him a huge beating, kind of like he’s doing right now. This time Ildo is older; instead of being afraid, he looks angry, with blood trickling down his eyebrow. He tells Yeom that he’s fighting for 2 trillion won, but if Ildo becomes the director of Daesan Group, then they’ll have enough money to cover the National Patriotism Fund, and the Elder will have no reason to stick with Dongju. Yeom replies that, in that case, they could just get rid of the Elder’s involvement altogether.

Back at the bakery, Seonu tells his mom what the Chairman did the previous night and how he had to take him home. He even tells her that he called him son. This is when Deokhui comes to see her. Deokhui threatens Seonu’s mom, saying that the two of them are alive just because she promised never to let Dongju join Daesan Group. She tells her not to trust in Dongju as well. Dongju arrives just as Deokhui is leaving, and he seems really close with Seonu. He’s there to tell Seonu’s mum that they need to get Seonu into the Daesan Group, and that’ll be easy only if she marries the Chairman, i.e., becomes his legal wife. At the same time, Dongju tells her it’s time to tell Seonu the truth. We don’t see them tell him that he’s the Chairman’s son, but Seonu steps out for a smoke and smirks to himself. I suppose this means he’s happy to know he’ll have a lot of money? Or maybe he’s upset that he had to wait so long.

What Does The Administrator Tell Dongju?

Yangchun is in Dongju’s captivity, and after too much torture, he finally wants to side with Dongju. He tells him to ask the Administrator about the Dandelion Team. He tells him that under the Administrator they surveilled all the influential people of Korea, but the files disappeared and the team was disbanded out of the blue. When Dongju tells the Chairman about this and asks if he was blackmailed with such information, he tells him that Yeom warned him about it once. Yeom told him that he couldn’t destroy the original files, so the Chairman should tell him if anyone ever tried to use those files to blackmail him. Dongju then messages the Administrator, telling him he’ll give him Yangchun for the Dandelion Files. The Administrator tells Yeom about the situation, and Guho tracks the phone to where Yangchun is. The Administrator tells Dongju he’ll give them the files, but he ends up trying to kill Yangchun for opening his mouth.

Dongju looks them up in the room while they’re fighting to kill each other, but the Administrator tells him that he knows about his father. He tells him that they’ve met each other a long time ago. On the other hand, Deokhui worries about a lot of things, including Seonu and Taehyun, to the point she gets a fever, but what she doesn’t know is that Taehyun knows his dad might’ve contributed to Dongju nearly dying. While they’re talking in bed, Ildo gets a picture from his friend, Dr. Kang’s father. It’s a picture of the two of them with Eunnam’s real father and Ko Youjin, who is Dongju’s mom (or so we think). Deokhui says she was the one who took that picture, and we flashback to that moment.

In the picture, it’s Eunnam’s father carrying Dongju, but this is something that Deokhui looks unhappy about. Specifically because she sees him and Youjin talking together with the kid. They look like a happy family themselves, but we all know they’re not, so why does this make Deokhui upset? Well, I think Ildo had Dongju’s biological mom and Eunnam’s dad killed for Yeom, but was it possibly for Deokhui? And if so, what is Dongju’s connection with the Daesan group?

On the other hand, Dongju tries to visit Professor Lee Supyung, the man who abandoned him and his sister. The man he thinks is his biological father, until it is revealed by Huicheol’s father that he is not his biological dad. So, Dongju was never related by blood to Sister Agnes. Additionally, it seems he was adopted by the woman he thought was his biological mom too. Madame Pi tells him that he walked into Sister Agnes’ house without a word. He wasn’t really adopted, but it was hard for Youjin to look after him by herself, which is why Madame Pi helped raise him. She then shows him a safe in which she has kept the clothes he wore when he walked into the house. She says she kept them specifically because they held the picture of him with the 4 adults, the same one Ildo just received. Dongju has the other picture on his phone because he had Ildo’s phone hacked and realizes it’s the same one.

On the other hand, Yeom threatens the President by messing with his nephew, probably using the Dandelion files. I suppose it’s to show him who really has the upper hand here. While leaving, Yeom gets a mysterious call; it’s Seonu’s mother. It looks like she’s baked some fresh bread for someone, and I have a feeling it’s got cinnamon in it and has Dongju’s name on it. I guess what she gets from this is no more threats from Deokhui. Or maybe she just doesn’t want that kind of a lifestyle for her son. In the meantime, Huicheol asks Eunnam why she decided to come back after leaving him. He tells her to give him an honest answer. She says she has to pay a penalty, which is too high for her. Huicheol tells her to get out, saying he’ll pay the penalty instead and he’s asking for a divorce. I guess this is just to save him from heartbreak, or maybe he’s finally realized Dongju’s won?

At the end of Buried Hearts episode 10, Eunnam returns home and notices Dongju staring at something in his car. It’s the same photograph, and when she takes it, she asks him where he got it from. He asks her if she knows the man in the picture, and she says it’s her dad. I’m really not sure what this all means, but I know one thing: Eunnam and Dongju cannot be related by blood (I hope).
