‘Buried Hearts’ Episode 14 Recap & Ending Explained: Is Yeom Arrested?

Published

Buried Hearts episode 14 is a little bit tedious in the sense that it is just setting the stage for the most part for the final two episodes. At this point, I’m not sure what kind of twist can drop on us at any given moment. I’m also a little bit confused about Yeom’s motivations and why he’s so eager to kill regular people for “nationalism.” What is he after? Money? National progress? What is it exactly? Because I don’t get it. In episode 14, we see Dongju finally show his true self to the Chairman after what went down with his dad. It’s obvious that the Chairman was behind the whole thing and that he’s decided to side with Yeom. So, let’s get straight into the recap of episode 14.

Spoiler Alert

Who Isn’t Invited To Ildo’s Funeral?

Buried Hearts episode 14 begins with Ildo dying, holding onto Dongju’s hand. Dongju tries to keep him alive because there’s a lot they still need to talk about and do, but it’s already too late. Dongju tells him that if he dies now, he’ll never forgive him. Earlier, Ildo had told Dongju that he planned on living a long life, until he could hear Dongju call him “Father.” The next thing we know, Dongju is in Yeom’s car, showing him that he’s alive yet again. Dongju stops Yeom from going to Ildo’s funeral because he knows that it was Yeom’s man who killed Ildo. Dongju lied to the police that he didn’t know the killer from before. Also, Dongju has forbidden the Chairman from attending the funeral as well. This is very important for him because it’s the two men who wanted him dead.

Later, Taeyun tells Dongju to do whatever he feels like after the funeral, i.e., he lets him take the ashes because they have equal rights to their dad’s ashes, but also Dongju is the older son. Meanwhile, Deokhui tells Gukhui about Dongju being Ildo’s son. This is a huge shocker to her, but it gives her reason to hate Dongju. Now that Deokhui knows about Ildo, she’s basically disowned him and wants her sister to take over Daesan Energy, but otherwise, she acts as if she hates her sister.

Back at home, Seonu’s mom tries to see if the Chairman will give Seonu Daesan Energy, now that Ildo’s dead, but it’s an opening Gukhui’s had her eyes on for a while, which is what the Chairman tells her. Dongju then shows up, and Seonu’s mom tries to comfort him about his dad’s death. She says she learned about it recently, too. The Chairman sends Seonu’s mom out, but before she leaves, Dongju doesn’t hesitate to warn her in front of the Chairman not to try any tricks, because she became the lady of Daesan all thanks to Dongju. To prove his point, Dongju brings Seonu into the Chairman’s office, where the latter is meant to tell his dad his future resolutions. It’s clear that he’s being trained by Dongju, but I can’t tell if he’s putting on an act or if he truly likes Dongju. Seonu has started calling the Chairman father now, thanks to Dongju, and also tells him that he’s going to study business.

Dongju then tells Eunnam about Ildo being his dad. Dongju tells her that he was afraid she’d leave him or that he may have to beg her to forgive him for his dad’s mistakes. Eunnam tells him that it’s cruel that the one person who was meant to be on her side and hate Ildo with her turned out to be his son. It almost seems like the duo is breaking up, but this is a K-drama, so I have a feeling that’s not going to happen, even if it’s not the main plot of the story. Meanwhile, back at home, the Chairman tells Deokhui that she shouldn’t let Ildo’s inheritance go to Dongju (how the tables have turned). But he also tells her to cut Taeyun off because he’s a “half-breed.” The man’s losing it just a little bit.

How Does Dongju Expose Yeom?

On the other hand, Dongju straight up goes to the Elder for help with his Yeom problem. The Elder calls Yeom and tells him that Dongju said that it was his man who killed Ildo. The Elder warns Yeom against something like this happening again. At the Chairman’s place, Dongju opens the vault after the Chairman realizes he’s got the wrong passcode. Dongju goes inside the vault, leaving the Chairman in the room. When Yeom shows up in the room, Dongju shuts the door from the inside, leaving the two men stunned. Later, Yeom and Dongju have a discussion in front of the Chairman, which eventually ends in Dongju telling Yeom he wants to see him crushed under his feet. Dongju then meets with a reporter who has been interested in the Dandelion Files for a while. At the same time, Yeom meets with Assemblyman Sang-Cheol and tells him to get Dongju away from the Elder.

Dongju then sets the Administrator free after getting him treatment. The Administrator is now on Dongju’s side because Yeom tried to kill him. He tells him that he’s indebted to him. Dongju and Wonbae have a drink and some ramen to celebrate a bit. But Dongju asks Wonbae why he’s helping him so much. Wonbae says that his fight is against Yeom, and he wants him crushed. Dongju then tells him that he will also fight against the hospital that sent Wonbae packing for something he didn’t do, as if it were his own fight. But this is an indication of what’s coming next. But before they part ways, Wonbae tells Dongju that what he wants is for Yeom to be exposed in front of the whole world. Wonbae then meets the journalist, who’s reading the Dandelion stuff in Dongju’s hidden office. He tells Wonbae that he wants to write a whole feature on Yeom. Unfortunately, Guho already knows Dongju has been meeting up with this journalist and follows him to the office, learning where Wonbae is and kidnapping him to get information on where the Dandelion Files are. Guho’s men don’t find anything in the building, and of course, they beat up Wonbae to get information.

To get Wonbae back, Dongju asks the Administrator to help; he brings a huge group of people to help Dongju. But they’re unable to find the place Wonbae is locked up in, even if the Administrator knows so much about where Yeom does his thing. Finally, Dongju goes to the Elder to get him to help get Wonbae back. He memorizes some names for him and asks for a favor in return. The Elder calls Yeom and tells him to let Wonbae go, but it seems Yeom has already planned for this to happen.

At the end of the Buried Hearts episode 14, Dongju offers up the Dandelion Files to Yeom. What Yeom doesn’t know is that Dongju is recording their whole conversation through his watch and a drone. Yeom immediately burns up the Dandelion files, and when Dongju tells Yeom that he can be ashamed at home now instead of in public, Yeom tells him that there’s nothing on those tapes that he’s ashamed of, because he did it all for his country. Dongju asks him why he killed his sisters, and Yeom replies that if he had just given back the 2 trillion won, then he wouldn’t have. Yeom then tries to have Dongju thrown off the edge of the building (yes, another attempt trying to kill the guy), but this is when Dongju reveals on a big screen from across them that he’s been livestreaming the whole thing, just as Wonbae had wished for. With Yeom exposed, there’s really not much left for Dongju to do. Will this be revenge enough for him, though? Will all of this give him the satisfaction he wanted this whole time? What if his mom is still alive? Additionally, what will happen to the Chairman? There are still two episodes left, which means anything can happen, so we’ll just have to wait and watch.
