Directed by Girish Kohli, Crazxy is a testament to the fact that you do not need a big budget, a known production house to back the project, or a big star on board to make a good film. A good story is the foundation of any film, and half the work, I believe, is done once you have a conflict that keeps the audience at the edge of their seats. So let’s find out what happened in the film and if Doctor Abhimanyu Sood was able to save his daughter’s life.
Spoiler Alert
What happened to Abhimanyu’s daughter?
Doctor Abhimanyu was going to deliver Rs 5 crores to the family of one of his patients. The patient, a 12-year-old boy, had to be operated on for gangrenous appendicitis, but due to the usage of halothane, a general anesthetic agent, complications arose during the procedure. The situation got out of hand, and the doctor, Sood, was not able to save the kid’s life. The family blamed him for medical negligence as they came to know about the entire halothane episode. Dr. Nilay Majumdar, Sood’s senior, who apparently owned the hospital too, negotiated terms with the victim’s family, and it was decided that an out-of-court settlement would be made in order to save Abhimanyu and the hospital’s reputation. Sood had taken money from his current partner, who owned a business, and decided to pay off the victim’s family and save his reputation. A few days before, Sood was supposed to give the money to the family of the deceased kid as compensation, but his mobile got stolen.
At that point in time in Crazxy, he had no clue that it was all a part of a larger plan. Dr. Sood got in his car and was putting the bag of cash in his trunk when he got a call from an unknown number. The caller told him that his daughter was in his custody, and he asked for a ransom of Rs 5 crores, the exact amount for the compensation. For a moment, Sood thought that somebody was playing a prank on him. But it was not so. Sood called his ex-wife, Bobby, with whom he didn’t really share a cordial relationship, and asked her where their daughter, Vedica, was. At first, Bobby said that Vedica was safe, but then she called her school and found out that she was not there. Bobby got paranoid, and she requested Abhimanyu to pay the kidnapper and bring their daughter back. She requested it, as she wasn’t sure if Sood would actually pay the money to save his daughter or not. Sood didn’t have any sort of emotional connection with his daughter and there was a reason why he always treated her like she was not worthy of any love. Vedica suffered from Down syndrome, and Sood looked down upon her and believed that she wouldn’t amount to anything in life. There were times when he explicitly told Vedica how she was not smart and how she was just not worthy of his love and affection. Bobby told him time and again how Vedica’s IQ was better than other kids, but Sood could never really care for her. Sood might have been a pathetic father, but still, it was his daughter at the end of the day, and he was not so heartless as to let her die in captivity.
How did Abhimanyu overcome the obstacles?
Abhimanyu Sood, after talking to the kidnapper, felt that his voice was familiar to him. All of a sudden, when he saw a picture of Vedica with her teachers, Sood realized that the kidnapper was none other than Gurudutt Prasad. Prasad was one of those teachers who believed that Vedica was meant to do great things in her life. For Abhimanyu it just didn’t add up; why would a teacher who loved Vedica so much do something so crazy? Sood, for a moment, thought that it was his wife who had orchestrated everything just to extort money from him. Sood’s current partner also told him to not entertain the kidnapper as he needed to use that money to pay off the patient’s family and save his reputation. Sood and his partner both knew that if the case of medical negligence went to court, then he wouldn’t stand a chance, and he would be found guilty without a doubt. Sood’s partner didn’t think that it was a wise move on his end to risk his career and go and save his daughter, with whom he didn’t have any kind of bond, and whose existence didn’t matter to him. Sood’s partner ultimately told him that she couldn’t stay with a man who was hell-bent on ruining his own life.
Meanwhile, Sood’s boss, Dr. Majumdar, also gave him a call and told him to pay the money to the victim’s family as the reputation of his hospital was also at stake. Sood’s boss knew that there was a shortage of beds at his hospital, and by not revealing that fact to the patients, he was in breach of their trust. If Abhimanyu was found guilty, Dr. Majumdar’s unethical management would be questioned too. But Abhimanyu Sood had made up his mind. He told his boss that he could do whatever he felt like, as he was going to save his daughter at any cost and use the money to pay off the kidnapper. Amidst all the hullabaloo, Sood got a call from a nurse, as there was a patient waiting at the hospital to be operated on. Abhimanyu asked one of his juniors to handle the matter knowing the fact that the young man had little or no experience in doing the procedure all by himself. To make matters worse, Sood’s car got a flat tire, and the kidnapper threatened that he had to reach at a stipulated time if he wanted to see his daughter alive. Sood held his nerve, and he got on a video call with his junior to assist and guide him. In that tense situation when so much was at stake, Sood could multitask and save his patient’s life while repairing his flat tire at the same time. In the end, Sood was able to reach the location where the kidnapper had asked him to come, but what he saw there changed his perception about life forever.
Why Was Abhimanyu’s Daughter Kidnapped?
The kidnapper wanted to play a game with Dr. Sood. He kept a number of jute sacks filled with all sorts of stuff, and so Sood had to open each one of them to find out where Vedica was. Sood saw that in one of the sacks, there was a bottle of fake blood and all sorts of things to make the kidnapping look real. Sood didn’t understand what Prasad was up to and why he was harassing him.
Crazxy’s ending made a shocking revelation… something that Sood hadn’t imagined in his wildest dreams. It was Vedica, Sood’s 16-year-old daughter, who had faked her own kidnapping to prove to her father that she was not as incapable or unintelligent as he believed her to be. That little girl had sought her father’s validation since the day she was born, and it really hurt her when he said all sorts of mean things to her. She told her father that though she suffered from Down syndrome, it did not mean that she didn’t deserve to live. Sood couldn’t stop his tears as he realized what wrong he had done. He asked for forgiveness from his daughter and told her that she would change his attitude and never demean her again. The girl told Sood that by making him go through the entire ordeal, she wanted him to realize what she was capable of. She had gone to her favorite teacher, Prasad, for help, as she knew that he would understand her perspective. In a gut-wrenching moment, Vedica told her father that she loved him, irrespective of his flaws. Dr. Sood realized that his daughter was mature beyond her years, and henceforth, I believe that he would do everything in his power to mend their relationship.
