Published

Episodes 7 and 8 of Crime Scene Zero, titled Murder in the Nightlife District, open with the case of a young girl who was murdered near Gangnam Station. Once Detective Jang took charge of the case, he found evidence that cast suspicion on several individuals. So let’s find out what happened in the case and who was the one who had murdered that poor girl.

What happened to Lee Gun-mi?

Lee Gun-mi, a young girl who lived in the entertainment district, was murdered by somebody, and her dead body was dumped at an empty lot. Since it rained a lot that night, most of the evidence that could have been used by the forensics team was destroyed. When Detective Jang reached the scene, he uncovered details that only deepened the mystery. He saw that the victim had an Adam’s apple, which meant that though she was dressed as a woman, the person was a biological male. There were a lot of people testing positive for Covid-19 at that point in time, and so the detective had to be extra cautious during the investigation. It seemed as if the victim had been in an altercation with the perpetrator, and she had tried hard to defend herself. There were multiple scars on her body, which made it pretty clear that the victim did put up a fight. The detective, without any further ado, called the suspects and began the murder investigation to find out what had happened on the fateful night and who was behind the murder.

Who were the suspects in the murder case?

The detective told all the suspects that the real name of the victim was not Lee Gun-mi but Lee Gun-jun. Club Kim, owner of the Club Slam, who was one of the suspects, was shocked to hear that Lee Gun-mi was a boy and not a girl. Actually, Lee Gun-mi identified as a woman, which was why she never felt the need to tell anybody that she was born as a boy. Whole Chicken Park, the second suspect, ran a fried chicken outlet in the entertainment district, and she too knew the victim for a very long time. C Store Jang was the only one who told the detective that the victim was not a girl but a boy, who had studied with him in high school. So it became clear that C Store Jang knew the victim since his school days, and that meant that he would have some details about her that the others didn’t. Gold Spoon Ha was a lawyer and mediator for Gangnam district lease disputes, and he too had a bittersweet relationship with the victim, which ultimately didn’t turn out well for him. Dancer An told the detective that the victim was a good friend of hers and that she was shattered to know about her demise.

There were obviously a lot of things that suspects hid from the detective. Like C Store Jang didn’t reveal that he had bullied the victim back in school and that he used to force her to cross-dress. Whole Chicken Park did not reveal that she was banned from professional boxing, as she tested positive in a drug test. It was the victim who was behind it, and Whole Chicken Park had gotten to know that Lee Gun-mi was not acting of her own accord, she wanted to find the man under whom the victim was working. Gold Spoon Ha exchanged a lot of messages of late with the victim, and it came to be known that he was being blackmailed by her, as she had some compromising photos in her possession that could potentially tarnish his image.

Once the investigation was completed, Dancer An and Club Kim surprisingly got 3 votes each. Since it was a tie between them, the other four individuals were asked to decide among themselves and come to the conclusion as to who the killer would be between both of them. The suspects choose Dancer An to be the final culprit, and to everybody’s shock, they were not wrong. Dancer An, who apparently shared the best relationship with the victim, was the one who had killed her.

Why Did Dancer An Kill Lee Gun-Mi?

Dancer An had joined an entertainment agency back in the day, as she wanted to make it big in showbiz. Her aim since childhood was to become an idol, a celebrity, and she was ready to go to any extent to fulfill her dream. The agency told her that if she wanted to become famous, she needed to make some changes physically. They told her that she would have to go for multiple plastic surgeries and get a few treatments done. Dancer An was up for it, but what she didn’t know was that she was walking right into a trap. The agency was just a front, and in reality they ran a drug smuggling ring. Club Kim was the ringleader who trapped these girls, made them work for him, and forced them to do all sorts of illegal things. Once the plastic surgery was completed, Dancer An was unrecognizable and she was very happy with the new look. But her happiness was short-lived as she got to know that she was in a lot of debt and needed to make some arrangements to pay the medical professionals who had performed the surgery on her. She told her agency that she didn’t have any money, and that’s when they coerced her to deliver drugs for them. Soon Club Kim gave her a job in his club but added an additional prison waiver fee to her initial debt amount. Club Kim was an ex-cop, and Dancer An knew that if a formal complaint was made against her, she would be put behind bars. So she signed a slave contract with Club Kim and started working for him. Then one day, she met the victim, who told her that she was her biggest fan. Dancer An opened up in front of the victim and told her all about her past. Lee Gun-mi told Dancer An that she had a plan in mind that could give them an opportunity to move to China and make a fresh start. Dancer An used to deliver drugs to VIP parties on Club Kim’s orders. The victim told Dancer An that if she somehow managed to take some photographs of those influential people, then they would use them to earn some money. Apparently, Lee Gun-mi had some contacts in China, and she knew of a Chinese broker who was willing to pay a huge amount for those pictures. Dancer An did what was asked of her, but eventually she realized that the victim had every intention of backstabbing her and running away with her share of money too. Dancer An had seen Whole Chicken Park and the victim having a heated argument that night, and she decided to use it to her advantage. Dancer An killed Lee Gun-mi, and she disposed of her body at the empty lot. She knew that she needed to have a good alibi when the police started investigating the matter. Dancer An quite smartly made sure of that all the while when she was busy disposing of the body. Club Kim believed that she was fixing the leak detector at the club. But in the end the truth came out in the open, and Dancer An was not able to commit the perfect crime as she would have wanted.
