‘Envious’ Season 3 Ending Explained & Finale Recap: Will There Be A Season 4?

Published

The ending of Envious season 3 has finally made me realize that this is a show that plans on staying with us for at least 6 seasons. The Argentinian show following the life of a 40-something-year-old Vicky who grapples with a severe case of “envy” started off as an egregious show, to be honest, but as we’ve come to the 3rd season, I’ve come to like Vicky like she’s my own older sister. It is true that we all go through some of these dilemmas; we all have some of these thoughts about how one’s life is better than others, but what happens with Vicky is that she lets it get to her so much it spirals into something completely different altogether. In season 3, Vicky’s finally closer to her dream. She’s become an architect but needs a job, and the love of her life, Matias, wants to have kids with her. What more can she ask for? Well, it appears she doesn’t really know what she wants. But as usual, the final few minutes of episode 10 leave us with the most annoying of cliffhangers, knowing we’ll be tuning back in for whatever comes next. So, with that said, let’s jump straight into the ending of season 3.

Spoiler Alert

Is Vicky Ready To Be A Mom?

While we know that Vicky keeps sabotaging herself every time something good happens to her, there’s one thing she’s always been keen about, and that’s having kids. She’s even got names picked out and everything, so when it comes time to actually take that step to have that kid, she’s surprised to find out that Matias doesn’t even hesitate. However, this leads her to say yes too quickly, making her realize too late that she’s not actually ready for this. It could be that her sister Caro’s change in demeanor postpartum led to her realizing she’s not cut out for this, or it could just be that having kids has never been for her, and the only reason she wanted them so bad is to not feel lonely. This is something that Fernanda, who makes a house call thanks to Matias, concludes.

It’s easy to understand that Vicky’s always wanted to be perfect, and having a loving partner and a kid would tick that box for her, but what if that box was never there? This is what Fernanda makes Vicky understand as they decide to head out for a walk. Vicky isn’t willing to admit that she doesn’t want to be a mom, especially because of how excited Matias has been since they decided to take the step. But Fernanda and anyone around her can see that this is not what she wants. But maybe if Vicky actually has the child, it might be perfect? Maybe her body will react the right way? Who knows? To be honest, Vicky did a great job with Emma, something that nobody expected. She even got a job on the same day and managed to do everything right, all with Emma on her hip, but does that mean this is something she wants to keep doing? No, it doesn’t.

Envious season 3 shows us that it’s okay for women to not want to be mothers, to not be happy when they become mothers, and to feel like they’re doing too much and working too hard after they become one. In Vicky’s sister Caro, we see all the frustration that comes with motherhood. Not only do you have to push out this baby, but you also have to look after it like it’s nobody else’s but yours. Fermin isn’t a bad guy; this is well established, but the reason Caro gets the ick is because he’s being so selfish without even seeing his mistakes. It’s utterly ridiculous how oblivious he is to her suffering. Oh, every woman goes through this, so you should handle it too. That’s not how it works, and this is made clear by the final episode of the season. Caro doesn’t hate Fermin, but she certainly doesn’t want to live with him or give her baby away to him. Like Caro says, it’s fine that the family they expected to have and build together didn’t work out, but they’ll always be a family because they have a (very cute) baby together.

What Is Matias Going To Do?

On the other hand, Lola, the one person that Vicky has been most envious of this season, someone that she’s meant to hate, who she calls a “guy’s girl,” is the only person who truly understands what she’s going through. Matias tells Lola that Vicky got scared when she had to get the treatment for egg fertilization, and Lola is the one who tells him that maybe it’s because the procedure itself scared her. There’s a chance she saw what was happening, and it freaked her out. She talks about how fears aren’t linear, and that she even passes out as soon as her blood is drawn; this is a proper invasive procedure. Matias kind of gets it at this point, but it might be a bit too late.

In Envious season 3’s ending, somebody comes to see Matias while he’s shooting the show with Lola. Turns out it’s a woman named Nora who used to visit his store all the time way back in the day. Nora and Matias were clearly a thing once, though he doesn’t seem to remember. Probably just a one-night stand, eh? Anyway, Nora shows up with a kid, between the ages of 8 and 10, I want to say, and you already know where this is going. At the same time, Vicky’s just finished her conversation with Fernanda about not wanting a kid. Also, there’s a sweet moment where Vicky asks Fernanda if she loves her, and Fernanda says she does (we’ve always seen it in her eyes, eh?). Vicky’s clearly precious to her, and they hug it out when Roto runs off, only to go find Matias. Suddenly, Vicky and Matias are standing face-to-face, while the boy and his mother sit at a table nearby.

Will There Be A Season 4?

Matias asks Vicky if there’s something she wants to tell him and insists that she tell him. This is when she finally says she’s not ready to have kids and might never want them, and she doesn’t want to hide anything from him. Matias didn’t realize whatever she was going to tell him was going to be so serious, so he tries to shut her up then, but it’s too late already; the floodgates are open. This is when the boy, Bruno, comes running to Matias and tells him that he forgot his drawing. When Vicky asks who’s in the drawing, Bruno says it’s my dad who’s been on TV. Suddenly the pieces fall in place for Vicky, and she just wants to run and hide in a corner, but of course, she can’t do such a thing. But maybe this is the answer to their problem, no? If Vicky and Matias don’t have a kid of their own, Matias can still be a dad through Bruno. But this would mean more insecurity for Vicky, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens and how she’ll eventually deal with this crisis in season 4. While nothing is confirmed, one thing is clear: there’s more to this story and a lot more to Vicky, so I’m sure there’s a chance of the show coming back for another season.
