High Tides season 2 ended on an uncertain note, and the characters didn’t have any clue where their lives were going to take them. Daan, even if he didn’t want it, had become a part of Knokke’s elite class, and his life had changed more than anybody else’s. With everything that had happened between him, Louise, and Alex, it was impossible for him to go back to his hometown and make a fresh start. Though there hasn’t been any official announcement of High Tides season 3, let’s figure out what will happen with the elites of Knokke if the makers decide to come back with another season.
Spoiler Alert
Will Daan go back to Breda?
I believe that the incident that happened at the end of season 2 will turn Daan’s life upside down. Daan, just before he got into a scuffle with Thomas, went and told his mother how he didn’t want to stay in Knokke. Daan was sick and tired of dealing with the people around him. That said, I won’t say that he was not at fault or that he didn’t make bad choices, but still, he didn’t sign up for what he had to bear. His photographs were ruined after Louise, in an inebriated state, decided to break into Christine’s art gallery and throw paint all over them. Louise was not in her senses, and she let her negative emotions get the better of her. Daan told his mother about it, but just then, they heard some banging noises coming from inside the Vandael mansion. They went there to find Patrick lying on the ground. Thomas had lost his calm after he got to know that, even after marrying Jacqueline, Patrick’s mother, he wouldn’t get a single penny from the Vandael property. The old woman had duped him, and Thomas couldn’t bear the fact that he had been defeated when, for the longest time, he believed that he was the master of the roster.
After Thomas got killed in the scuffle, Daan and Alex went and buried his body in one of the Vandaels’ construction sites. I think over a period of time, Daan had become a part of Knokke’s upper-class community, and no matter how much he denied it, there was not a lot of difference between him and Alex. Yes, I do agree that Daan still had a conscience, a moral yardstick, but more often than not he didn’t abide by it. He knew what he was doing with Anouk was not right, but he still went and did what he wanted. The only difference between him and somebody like Alex was that the former was a little doubtful before taking any decision, and the latter went about his business in an unabashed manner. So I don’t think that Daan will be able to leave everything and go back to Breda, his home town, as he was too entangled in the mess. He still loved Louise; he still had things unresolved with Anouk, and after the tragedy, he had realized that he and Alex were pretty much in the same boat. I believe that the time isn’t far when Daan will become so much like Alex that he wouldn’t be able to recognize himself. We saw in High Tides season 2 that he had started dressing up like a proper Knokke boy, and it wouldn’t be long before his sensibilities also started changing.
What will happen to Louise?
It was an undeniable fact that Louise was a mess, and her confusion made the lives of the people around her also quite complicated. Louise was just not able to make up her mind who she wanted to end up with. There were times she accepted that Alex was best suited for her, as he came from the same background, and he had been with her for a long time. But then there were times when she felt attracted to Daan, and she just couldn’t resist her impulses. At the end of High Tides season 2, she ended up doing something unpardonable. She knew it was Daan’s big day, but something snapped inside her, and she destroyed all the photographs. In the process, what Louise did was distance the one person who was willing to be there for her unconditionally. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, because of which Louise was just not able to control her emotions. She was expecting extreme emotions as a result of the disorder, and it was about time she went and got proper medical care. Louise had suicidal thoughts throughout season 2, but in the end, she was able to conquer her demons and get herself admitted to the hospital. The road ahead isn’t going to be easy for Louise. She will have withdrawal symptoms; she will feel all kinds of negative energy, but if somehow she is able to handle everything, she will come out as a changed human being for sure. It would be interesting to see who Louise ultimately ends up with, once the dust settles.
Louise had a great precedent in front of her as her sister, Emilie, had chosen to be with Jean-Jacques and let go of Charles, her husband, who her parents believed was best suited for her. Louise knew that her parents had already imagined Alex as their son-in-law, but in the end, it was her call. I believe in season 3, Louise will have to make a choice, because by swinging like a pendulum, going back and forth between Daan and Alex, she was just making everything even more complicated. Louise knew that she was more like Alex, but Daan was the one who could love her like nobody else. Also, if Louise decides to be with Daan, she would have to understand the latter’s sensibilities and meet him halfway. There was no denying that Daan and Louise came from different backgrounds, and no matter how much they hung out together, their core sensibilities were different. Like that one time when Louise got intimate with Daan and Alex together, she didn’t feel that anything was wrong with it, but Daan did feel awkward, and he just didn’t like the feeling of sharing his loved one with someone else. I believe Louise has a lot of obstacles to overcome in season 3, and if she isn’t dedicated to her cause, then she will get entangled in that same loop.
Will Daan and Alex resolve their differences?
Louise was Alex’s girlfriend, and she cheated on him with Daan. Daan loved Louise, and he was so attracted to her that his mind went blank when she was in front of him. The motive behind stating those facts was that Daan and Alex always had a reason to hate each other, but the tragedy at the end of season 2 changed something within them. Alex and Daan together buried Thomas’ body, and now they shared a secret. Going through that entire traumatic experience developed a sort of bond of brotherhood between them. I believe that we will see Daan and Alex becoming good friends in season 3. I think that Alex will support Daan and make sure that he prospers in life. Daan had dreams of buying a property in Knokke, and it’s likely that will soon become a reality in the near future. I wouldn’t be surprised if Alex and Daan become partners in a business venture. Daan had the talent, and Alex wanted to prove to his father and his grandmother that he was a good entrepreneur. Alex’s idea of opening an exclusive gentlemen’s club never got the validation he sought from his father, and probably with Daan’s help, he would be able to start something that is more acceptable according to societal standards.
