Plot Summary

Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) dreams of achieving the best bodyguard of the year award, a AAA Golden Trophy. However, soon the dream turns into a nightmare as the memories of his former client, Takashi Kurosawa, and Bryce’s Archenemy, Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson), plagues Bryce’s sanity. Bryce confesses to his therapist that he was the best bodyguard until Darius killed his client, thereby pushing his career into an abyss.

In 2 weeks, the committee will re-evaluate Bryce’s bodyguard license. The pressure weighs him down. His therapist advises Bryce to forget about the bodyguard business and guns and take a vacation, which is the need of the hour.

In Greece, its economy is crushed by European Sanctions, and the country is on the verge of collapse. In 4 days, the EU decides to impose another financial sanction against Greece, which is well received by its residents, especially the Greek patriot, Aristotle Papadopoulos. Literature and culture-loving Aristotle kills EU’s minister and masterminds a terrorist plan to destroy the European power grid and infrastructure. He wants to paralyze the EU to not impose any sanctions on any country in the future.

While enjoying his peaceful vacation in Capri, Bryce is pulled into another rescue mission by Darius’s wife, Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek). She informs Bryce about Darius’s sudden abduction by a mafia. A helpless and feeble Bryce tries to help the hitman couple but without guns (he is meditating). However, during the combat, Sonia, Darius, and Bryce are arrested by the intelligence agency. Boston-based Interpol agent Bobby O’Neill (Frank Grillo) threatens the trio and offers them independence only if they agree to help Interpol in a covert mission to stop a cyberattack organized by Aristotle Papadopoulos.

The film further explores their hilarious and action-packed adventure to save European Union from a cyberterrorist attack.

‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ Ending Explained

In Zagreb, Croatia, Aristotle, and his men stole a cyber-tech diamond drill capable of penetrating the power grid and uploading a virus. With the help of the malicious software, the power could be turned into explosive weaponry that could impact everything in the set radius. Aristotle wanted the coordinates of the entire European information network so that he could cause immeasurable destruction.

Sonia, Darius, and Bryce handed out the coordinates to Aristotle due to their conflicts. Bryce’s step-father Michael Bryce Sr. (Morgan Freeman), was a former bodyguard of Aristotle and snitched about the trio, fluffing his loyalty. At Aristotle’s mansion, Darius discovered that Aristotle and his wife, Sonia are former lovers. Aristotle created a rift between Sonia and Darius. Both disheartened and rejected Hitman, and the bodyguard ran away from Aristotle’s captivity. But they had little motive left to fuel their other lives.

At last, Sonia called Darius and cleared the clouds between them. She told Darius that Aristotle was just con-fling that happened way before she met Darius. The couple, unable to conceive a baby, vividly discussed the possibility of adopting one. Darius loaded his gun to save Sonia, and Bryce acted as the Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.

In a musically engaging, action-packed climax, Sonia, Darius and Bryce fought against their respective enemies. In the end, Bryce discovered he couldn’t terminate the virus upload. If he tried to tamper with the units, the ship would explode. Bryce Sr. commented, “You will save Europe or you will save yourself.

Bryce made a heroic choice, and the trio jumped out of an exploding ship. They saved Europe, at last. Interpol agent Bobby handed some papers to Bryce. He thought he was getting his AAA license back, but actually, those were the adoption papers. A childless Sonia and Darius adopted Bryce as their legal son.

‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ Post Credit Scene

Interpol agent Bobby ordered Sonia, Darius, and Bryce, to spend 48 hours on a yacht before they were cleared and freed. However, Bobby extended their cruise from 48 hours to 1-2 months in the Post Credit Sequence.

A deadpan Bryce got annoyed by hearing Sonia and Darius’ love-making sounds and their lovey-dovey talks. In frustration, he jumped out of the boat.
