How to Ruin Love season 2 picks up from where it left off in the previous season, where we saw how Kagiso and Zoleka always had some obstacle or the other coming in the way of their marriage. Be it the surprise proposal that Kagiso had planned for Zoleka in season 1 going wrong, or the latter having doubts about Kagiso’s loyalty, there was something that stopped them from starting their life together every time. It felt as if the gods didn’t want them to be together, because there was no other way to explain the absurd challenges that came their way. So let’s find out what happened in season 2 and if the two lovebirds were finally able to get married.
Spoiler Alert
Why did Kagiso take cows from Mbazo?
The reason why Kagiso and Zoleka were encountering so many issues in their marriage was because the latter wanted a fairy tale wedding, and Kagiso didn’t have enough funds for that. Zoleka never wanted to impose her desires on Kagiso, and so she always offered to help him out financially. Zoleka’s father, Martin, was a rich man, but Kagiso didn’t like taking money from him time and again. He was already living in Zoleka’s house, and so he didn’t want to become a burden on the family. Also, he wanted Martin to respect him. He knew that not only was Martin a rich and influential man, but Zoleka was also an extremely popular actress. He felt indebted to them at times, and he just didn’t want them to see him as an incompetent guy later in his life. Also, we saw in How to Ruin Love season 1 that Zoleka had a habit of interfering in Kagiso’s affairs. The poor woman did it with good intentions, but somehow she always ended up ruining things. Zoleka had decided to have a white dress wedding, walk the aisle with her bridesmaid, and have a really fancy and intimate party that she and Kagiso could also enjoy. But obviously that was not how weddings worked in the African tradition. The fact that Kagiso and Zoleka weren’t having a traditional African wedding made many family members on either side quite upset. To make things worse, Martin’s father, i.e., Zoleka’s grandfather, arrived at the wedding venue and expressed his anger over not being invited despite being the head of the Dzana family. Martin and his sister didn’t talk to their father (the reasons for which we will discuss in the next heading in detail), which was why they didn’t call him to the wedding. Moreover, they knew that he would get upset that Zoleka was not getting married according to the traditions. So as expected, after Martin’s father arrived at the scene, it was decided that two days before the wedding there would be a lobola ceremony. Now, in this ceremony, the groom’s side offered money to the girl’s family to show their gratitude and respect towards them and also to strengthen the ties between both the families. Traditionally, cows were given to the groom’s family, and so Kagiso was told that 11 cows should be there at the venue before the commencement of the ceremony. Kagiso was stressed, and he didn’t know how he would arrange for it. Kagiso’s friend Amo took him to a loan shark named Mbazo, and she, instead of giving him money, offered him cows that she was going to use for her nephew’s lobola ceremony. Her only condition was that he would have to return them to her before 2 the next day. But obviously, between all the chaos, Kagiso wasn’t able to do so. In fact, she came and took her cows even before Kagiso’s lobola ceremony began, and so from Zoleka to her father, everybody got to know where the cows had come from. To make matters worse, a couple of Mbazo’s cows were confiscated as Kagiso and Zoleka’s family came and stopped her in the middle of a road, not knowing that they were her cows. Mbazo took Amo into custody, and Zoleka had to invite her to her wedding and even promise to pay her off using her father’s money to make sure she didn’t do anything to Amo.
Why didn’t Martin talk to his father?
We got to know in How to Ruin Love season 2 that Martin and his sister didn’t talk to their father, Mzwamadoda, because he hadn’t informed them after their mother had passed away and had in fact gone and buried her all by himself. For years, that fact haunted Martin and his sister, and they could never understand why he would have done that. But Mzwamadoda had his reason, and in doing so, he was just protecting his kids from the trauma. When Martin and the two families arrived at Mzwamadoda’s house, Martin decided to visit the grave of his mother, Rosaline. He went to the graveyard, and he was standing there when a man suddenly arrived and asked him what he was up to. He told him that it was his mother’s grave, and the other man just couldn’t understand why he would say so. That’s when Martin got to know that his mother was surprisingly still alive. He once again went back to his father, shocked, and asked him what he was up to. For years they had thought that their mother had passed away, and it was absurd of their father to lie to them. Mzwamadoda avoided the question for as long as he could, but then finally he gave in. He took his kids to meet their mother, and that’s when we realized why the man hadn’t let them meet her. Martin’s mother was an alcoholic, and she never wanted kids. Martin and her sister were born, and then after a few years she told Mzwamadoda to take them away, as she didn’t want to take the responsibility. Mzwamadoda had longed for that moment when he would have kids, and so he readily took them. He loved both his kids, and he never wanted them to feel a void inside them because they had a mother who just didn’t have any love towards them. So he cooked up a story, even if it made him the villain. He knew that his kids would hate him for burying their mother without them, but he knew that it was still better than meeting Rosaline. Once Martin and his sister met their biological mother, they realized how wrong they had been in the past, and that their father was not the selfish man that they believed him to be.
Did Katlego start dating Lyolo?
It had been long since Katlego had divorced Sicelo, but she still hadn’t been able to get over him. She was meeting many guys, having flings with them, but she had no intention of having a proper relationship with them. Somewhere, I believe, she had developed a phobia for long-term relationships, and not getting serious for any man had become her defense mechanism. One day, she met a guy and went to his house. She woke up in the morning to find that that man already had a wife, and Katlego had to literally jump from his balcony and get dressed in the street. She was quite angry at that liar when a woman came up to her and told her that she was Sicelo’s partner. Apparently, her name was also Katlego, and she didn’t know how to share the same name and surname with her partner’s ex. For a moment the real Katlego couldn’t understand what she was saying, because of how absurd it seemed. Katlego came back and talked to that woman, and she came to know that she was quite a big fitness influencer. In fact, from Zoleka to all the other girls, they followed her on various social media channels. Katlego drowned herself in alcohol after that day, and she made the most reckless decision she could. But then she met Lyolo, and she fell for him. Now, ideally, they shouldn’t have gotten intimate with each other, since Zoleka was Lyolo’s niece, and though distant, they were somewhat related. But then they couldn’t hold back their feelings and just found an excuse to spend some time together. Things were getting really serious between the two when Katlega realized that she was not doing the right thing with Lyolo. The man loved her, and she didn’t want to be with him half-heartedly. It was not like Katlega didn’t like Lyolo, but this time she wanted to cut ties with her past, not get affected by what Sicelo did in his own life, and only then take a step forward. Lyolo, being the understanding man that he was, told Katlega that she could take as much time as she wanted, and he would wait for her till then.
Did Kagiso and Zoleka get married?
Kagiso was participating in a reality show called The Capitalist, where people came and presented their business ideas, and the best one was going to win a huge prize. He was hoping to win the show and get that money before his wedding so that he could finance everything. But that didn’t happen. Zoleka had signed a deal with Netflix where her wedding was going to be filmed and then be available on the OTT platform for viewers. It became a hassle to deal with the filmmakers, and so Zoleka decided to call the deal off. Kagiso also wanted that to happen, because the expense had shot up excessively since the filmmakers had come on board. Every time Zoleka and Kagiso seemed to overcome the obstacles that came their way, some other conflict popped out of nowhere. Kagiso had decided to sell his car, which he really loved, to pay for the wedding expenses. But then something strange happened. An angel investor deposited a huge sum in his account, and he couldn’t find out who it was. But he was really happy and relieved too, because that meant that he could use it and be at ease. Kagiso was on the call with Zoleka when suddenly the latter mentioned an angel investor solving their problems. Kagiso hadn’t told anyone about it, and so he realized that it was actually Zoleka who had once again interfered, not showing even an ounce of trust in his abilities even when he had assured her that he would arrange for the money. He really got mad at Zoleka and told her that they should break up if she didn’t have any faith in him. Zoleka told him that she had called the reality show runners and got to know that Kagiso had won the first prize, and so she deposited the money, as she knew that he could always return it back to her if he wanted. It took some convincing, but Kagiso left his anger and decided to get married in the end. Martin wanted to postpone the wedding, as he was just not in her right frame of mind, but Kagiso didn’t want to let go of the opportunity. So at the end of How to Ruin Love season 2, Kagiso and Zoleka found a way to not find ways to destroy the special bond they had between them. They didn’t give up on each other, and the most gratifying thing was that both the families came together, resolved their differences, and celebrated the union of two people who were madly in love with each other.
