In the ending of How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)’s final season, the three tech geeks, Moritz, Lenny, and Daniel, who’d always wanted to build something of their own, become rich and famous and put a dent in the universe, finally part ways, and choose their separate paths. [Spoiler Alert] After the whole Brofrost fiasco, Moritz realized that he had always been a narcissist whose actions put his friends’ lives in danger, and therefore decided to fake his death so he could protect his close ones from his own dark shadow. Meanwhile, Lenny’s wife, Kira, had bagged a new coding job in Silicon Valley, and since Lenny wanted to support his wife’s career, he decided to leave BonusLife and move to California. And last but not least, Daniel, or Dan, learned his lesson and started working on building his startup with his new partner, Ersan, who now had a 51 percent stake in the company, though he didn’t mind letting Dan be the boss and the poster boy of the company. Ersan just wanted to be a part of something; that’s what made him content. So, yes, the finale was indeed a happy ending for all the key characters, but if you want to know how the story was wrapped up, follow me for a detailed breakdown of season 4’s ending.
Behzat and His Minions Are Dead
As soon as Moritz was released from prison for being involved in the illegal “MyDrug” application, he decided to stay out of trouble and start a legal business, though things didn’t pan out as he had planned, and he found himself in another mess. He wanted to buy a 49 percent stake in Lenny and Dan’s BonusLife, and for that he needed a huge sum of money, which his prison mate Ersan arranged from a really shady Turkish businessman named Behzat Aygun, who sold drugs under the cover of his frozen food company, Brofrost. After Moritz designed an encrypted messenger app for Behzat so that the police could no longer read their messages, Behzat soon realized that Moritz was nothing but a pathological liar who could go to any length to save his own life. After he abducted the three friends, it became apparent to him that Lenny and Daniel had always been the “brain” and “face” of the company respectively , and he wouldn’t be needing Moritz to maintain his encrypted servers. He tried to provoke Lenny to shoot his best friend, but he refused to pull the trigger, making Moritz realize that no matter how difficult the situation might be, his friends would never abandon their loved ones. It evidently brought a change in Moritz’s heart, who later decided to sacrifice himself so Lenny could escape Behzat and his goons. In the middle of the desert, Moritz pointed a gun at Behzat, but he was too afraid to pull the trigger and dropped the gun. The gun fired a bullet and set off a chain reaction where the drug dealers shot themselves and died on the spot. As the danger finally settled down, Moritz told Ersan that he didn’t want to return to his old life, as his presence had only brought trouble to his family and friends. It was his actions that put Lisa’s life in danger, and she could have died if she hadn’t been lucky. This was the reason why Moritz faked his own death and recorded a video message for Lenny and Dan, so that his close ones could move on with their lives and stop searching for him. Also, faking his death meant the police would no longer be looking for Moritz, and he wouldn’t get arrested for developing an encrypted app for a drug lord. His death wiped clean his past crimes and his family no longer had to face any legal trouble. Moritz’s sister, Marie, knew of his plan, and it’s likely his father, Jens, knew his son wasn’t dead as well, though they knew it was for the better that he stay away from the family.
Kira, Fritzi, and Lisa Exposed the Corrupt Commissioner
In season 4’s ending, while trying to find her missing husband, Kira and her friends, Fritzi and Lisa, tried to report the crime to the police, but Commissioner Welter, who had been on Behzat’s payroll since the very beginning, didn’t register their complaint. Lisa was just about to tell him about the messaging app that Moritz had developed for the drug dealer when Kira suddenly saw the encrypted device in Welter’s hand, giving away his possible connection with the drug dealer. This was when Kira and her friends devised a plan to get a confession out of the corrupt commissioner so that they could finally report his crimes to the authorities. They used an AI voice changer to bring Welter to a honey farm, where, with the help of Moritz’s previous partners-in-crime, they finally got a confession out of him and handed the evidence to the righteous officer, Amira, who had previously found her colleague, Bene’s body in Brofrost’s warehouse. She knew it was Behzat who had killed Bene, but didn’t have enough evidence to get an arrest warrant against him, but with Welter’s confession in hand, I guess Amira will be able to get to the bottom of the truth and put an end to the illegal drug network. Also, the final season began by informing us about the five dead bodies that had turned up in the city. All these five men were killed by Behzat’s minions, who suspected a mole among them. However, it was malware installed by Moritz because of which the police were able to read the drug dealers’ messages and catch them red-handed. Behzat didn’t know about it until Moritz told him the truth to save his own life.
Moritz Buys A Server Farm
In the final season, Moritz and Ersan visited one of Moritz’s contacts named Wheeler, who they decided to turn into an investor so he would buy Lenny and Dan’s company for them and later transfer it to Moritz and Ersan making them the new owners. But as Moritz had a change of heart, he decided to let Ersan take over the company while Moritz invested in a server farm scheme Wheeler had pitched to him in the previous episode. One of Wheeler’s dear friends was going to convert an abandoned oil rig into a server farm and was looking for investors for the same. The closing sequence of the final season pointed out that Moritz had put his share of money in the server farm and started living there to stay off the grid for the time being. It was the same location from where he had recorded the message for his friends and later sent it to his social media influencer sister so she could deliver it to Lenny and Dan.
The Friends Move On
In season 4’s ending, Moritz realized that Netflix’s show isn’t going to end until he is dead, and this was one of the major reasons why he faked his death. I am kidding, but not entirely. I mean, things won’t come to an end until Moritz is gone, right? And that’s what the finale was all about. Moritz is out of the picture, and in his absence, the rest of his friends decide to move on with their own lives. Lenny knew that his wife, Kira, had always been a better coder than him, and she deserved her fair share of success and recognition, which was why he decided to move to Silicon Valley, where the couple might have better employment opportunities and could excel in their respective careers. Also, Lenny, somewhere at the back of his mind, blamed himself for Moritz’s death, as he knew that it was his best friend who had sacrificed his life to save him. He had too many memories attached to the town, and it was likely haunting him day and night, which could be another reason for him to leave Rinseln so he could finally be able to forget the past and create a new future with his family. Meanwhile, Dan, who had never been a coder and was just a rich guy who knew how to sell things, decided to stay back and run the startup with his new partner, Ersan. In the season 4 finale, he told Lenny that the company was running quite smoothly now that they had downsized. The numbers were looking good, and they would finally be able to turn it into a profitable venture. Well, Dan was trying to convince Lenny to stay back, but he had already made up his mind. And it seemed like he’d also mended his relationship with his girlfriend, Fritzi, and wouldn’t try to find an escape in drugs when things got difficult in the near future.
The Return Of M1000
In How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)’s ending, Lenny got a request from a user handle, “m2000,” on BeReal, a photo-sharing social networking app like Snapchat and Instagram. Well, the username came as a shock to Lenny because it was his old friend, Moritz, who used the handle “m1000” to hide his real identity on the MyDrugs app. Everyone in the online community knew him by that username. So, it’s likely that it was Moritz who sent Lenny an invitation request, and the reason why he used “2000,” unlike his previous username, could be because Moritz believed he was a changed person now. The number implied that it’s his second innings, or the updated version of him, who’s indeed going to be a better human being than the previous release. Well, the show ends here, so I don’t think Moritz’s return is going to make much of a difference, though it does suggest that Moritz is going to stay in touch with his best friend, even after he has left for California, and Lenny will no longer blame himself for his best friend’s death. However, it’s still open to interpretation whether Lenny will let the rest of his friends know about Moritz’s survival or will keep it a secret so Moritz can enjoy his workcation as long as he wants to.
