Episode 5 of I Love LA is a shocking feast for the senses (as always). The episode casually begins with Maia and Dylan discussing guns (and Dylan, typically being the voice of reason) and ends with an actual death. This show was supposed to be fun! Not stressful, omg! I suppose it really shows us how removed people are from real life when social media takes over without pause. On the other hand, the Charlie arc is quite interesting, but I wonder how the ending of the episode will change him in the near future. Meanwhile, it looks like love is in the air, but not everybody can be a Jeremy, eh? Here we see Tallulah and Tessa getting closer. Alani’s also found a new guy, and Maia and Dylan are, of course, stronger than ever, but are they really? Now that we’re somewhere in the middle of the season, it’s going to be interesting to see how the show moves forward and how the season will end. Will Maia really get that Forbes cover? What if Alyssa’s just faking it? What if Maia ends up telling her about what she saw downstairs (yikes)? Well, I guess we’ll find out. With that said, though, let’s jump into episode 5.
Spoiler Alert
What Deal Does Maia Get for Tallulah?
I Love LA episode 5 begins with Maia and Dylan walking somewhere on a bridge, and Maia suddenly talks about how they should buy a gun so Dylan can protect her. It really comes out of nowhere, and Dylan naturally says he’s not really a gun person. Maia then proceeds to tell him about a Byrna, which is a non-lethal pistol that fires pepper rounds and comes with a side of security-guard training. Maia then goes into her bag to grab her phone and proceeds to drop it. Dylan points out how dangerous it would be if that were a gun, but Maia switches to play mode and then points her phone at Dylan, telling him to “grab the gun.” Yeah, they end up dropping the phone off the bridge, and the person it falls on proceeds to shoot at them with a gun. Rachel Senott, the woman you are.
At work, Maia makes a deal with Kia for Tallulah for 30K, even though the girl can’t drive. Meanwhile, Tallulah is having the best time of her life with her new partner, Tessa (talking about the Hannah Montana movie), and they’re actually quite cute, because it seems like there’s genuine interest there. The duo are so different from each other that Tessa can’t help but ask Tallulah if it’s normal to get 30K for one day’s worth of work. It looks to me like Tallulah doesn’t even realize it’s something shocking to Tessa. It’s even funnier when we find out Tallulah doesn’t actually know how to drive. Meanwhile, Alani shows up with her current fling, Garett, and he turns down Tallulah’s coffee before heading out. Clearly, Alani really likes this guy, but how can she keep him?
On the other hand, Maia is lunching with Alyssa when the latter commends her work ethic and then tells her a secret: Alyssa 180 is going to be in Forbes! Anyway, Alyssa also invites Maia and Dylan over for dinner, for a double date. She specifies that they should come hungry because Jeremy is going to make them a delicious meal. Oh, and this is all because Maia says Dylan’s also a songwriter, but he’s only ever written one song for a fellow teacher about trash. Meanwhile, Alani takes Tallulah on a driving lesson that is kind of a disaster, but it also gets her a date with Garett, because by the end of the lesson, Tallulah and Alani have switched seats, and Tallulah’s messaging Garett from Alani’s phone. Tallulah’s plan works for the moment, but is Alani going to handle the normie life okay? We’ll have to wait to find out.
What Happens With Lukas?
Meanwhile, Charlie is excited to dress Lukas and his gang, and though they’re super different, they’re really friendly to him, trying to make him feel at home. Charlie learns about their pact of not looking at “adult content,” and it’s just not something he can get behind, but hey, let’s see how that changes quickly. It appears the first night, Charlie doesn’t really care about what they said, but the next day, when he can’t do the turn that they’ve got planned, he immediately goes into defense mode and tells them to curse him out because that’s what he expects. He expects them to bully him, but they’re much nicer than that. Also, you have to pay attention to the fact that Dom mentions being in an ATV accident. Anyway, since Charlie’s a bit sick, Lukas tells him to rest up. He also mentions how he and his gang are all about hyping each other up, not bringing people down when they try something new. This is exactly what Charlie needs, but finally, Lukas tells him to take a back seat today and not join the gang for an ATV ride later.
Meanwhile, Maia and Dylan go to the Alyssa dinner, and Jeremy doesn’t take long to step away because he’s got a migraine problem. Apparently, he doesn’t like loud noises or perfume, and that’s why he also can’t produce music in the studios anymore. It becomes a long night, and there’s literally no food because Jeremy was supposed to do the cooking. Anyway, Dylan takes on the job, of course, because he’s just such a good boyfriend.
Maia decides to go to the washroom when she shockingly discovers Jeremy in a compromising position, while Alyssa is completely oblivious. Alyssa thinks her partner is actually obsessed with her but can’t be around all the time because of his headache, but the truth is, he probably just doesn’t care. Ironically, when Dylan is sent back to fix the steak he so lovingly made for the ladies, Alyssa tells Maia that she should probably find someone better. While Maia’s all “this is such great advice,” she obviously isn’t going to let go of Dylan. Anyway, Maia’s goal for the dinner is fulfilled because Alyssa finally asks her to join in for the Forbes shoot.
But episode 5 of I Love LA ends on the shocking note that Lukas has died in an ATV accident. Obviously, Maia’s first thought is to rush to Charlie, who has just transformed into a mature prude who loves his bros and even tells Alani not to show him pics that Garett sent her because they’re meant for her alone. Honestly, this is devastating news not only because Lukas was great for Charlie, and of course, his music was really killing it, but more importantly, Charlie was supposed to be on that ATV, so this is double trauma for him. I told you this was stressful! But let’s see where things go in the next episode.
