The psycho killer is back! From Thailand to Paris, CW managed to start a new life all over again. But is she a changed person? Well, even though it appeared so at first, she couldn’t suppress her dark, vengeful side for long. She craved to spill blood, and the minute her eyes caught an influencer’s, she immediately felt this strong urge to seek violence. The entitlement bothered her, and while most would just criticize and walk away, CW cherished the joy of stripping these bratty influencers of their privilege and watching them scream for help in their dying moments. CW had found love in a Parisian woman, Diane. Naturally, Diane had no idea what CW had been up to before they met. She was under the impression that CW was an American student living in France who wasn’t attached to her family and had no intention of returning home. So, did Diane find out the truth?
Spoiler Alert
What happened to Diane?
Diane and CW, aka Catherine, headed to a French chateau to celebrate their one-year anniversary. Catherine had been looking forward to the romantic weekend, and she’d even paid extra for a room with a good view. Upon arriving at the chateau, she found out that an influencer had been given the room she had reserved due to a marketing deal. While Diane didn’t mind the small room they had to settle for, Catherine was furious. She couldn’t stand the chirpy influencer, Charlotte, and she grew vengeful when she noticed Diane and Charlotte have a fun time at the pool. Her possessiveness for Diane and her absolute disgust for influencers made her consider getting rid of Charlotte altogether.
Charlotte had offered them access to an exclusive vineyard when she found out that they were at the chateau to celebrate their anniversary, but Catherine rejected her offer and insisted that they intended on spending the day in their own way. The next morning, when Catherine met Charlotte, she mentioned sending over the vineyard tour details to Diane. Catherine immediately assumed that Diane was more inclined to go along with the vineyard tour than whatever Catherine had planned. She also figured that Charlotte would eventually become an important part of Diane’s life because she was impressed with Diane’s photography skills and planned on introducing her to a few influential people. Catherine felt extremely envious; she wanted Diane only to herself, and Charlotte would clearly broaden Diane’s world, and Catherine was not comfortable with it. She lied about Diane being sick and offered to accompany Charlotte to the vineyard. She even offered to take pictures for Charlotte’s Instagram; she mentioned a perfect location where they could get a few good clicks. Charlotte happily went along with Catherine to a dilapidated old castle. She posed for a couple of pictures, and while the location looked alluring at first, Charlotte wondered if the place was even safe for them to stay at for long. Before she could even fathom what was going on, Catherine pushed Charlotte off the roof, and her body crashed in the basement. In her dying moments, she begged Catherine to help her, but instead Catherine took a picture of her mangled body for memory’s sake. She stole Charlotte’s phone and later uploaded pictures on her Instagram account. Diane noticed a shift in Catherine’s demeanor. She seemed distant and obsessed with something. Killing Charlotte made Catherine feel alive once again. She had tried to be on her best behavior, but clearly it wasn’t meant to last long-term.
Diane dug into Catherine’s belongings when she was away. She found out that Catherine had three different passports, and she was creeped out when she discovered that she was logged into Charlotte’s Instagram account. Diane had wondered why Charlotte left the chateau without saying a word to them, and she figured Catherine was the reason behind it. She read about Madison and the dead bodies in Thailand, and she couldn’t believe that the woman she thought she was in love with had been lying to her for a year. When Catherine returned home, Diane established that she would call the cops. Catherine struck Diane in the head and strangled her in a last-ditch effort to stop her. Within seconds of killing Diane, Catherine regretted her actions. She cried, stating that she didn’t mean to kill her. She got rid of Diane for the sake of self-preservation, but at the same time this wasn’t how she’d hoped their relationship would end. Diane’s presence was reassuring, and since she had killed the woman who’d dared to love her, she decided to find a way to keep alive their relationship. She had AI replicate her voice and pretend as if it was Diane. She fell in love with the idea of Diane, but not really the person. She wanted to manipulate her and expected her to say and do the things that she wanted. Since that was impossible for a real human being, Catherine settled for an AI companion who never said no to her and supported her notorious schemes.
Why did Madison travel to Bali?
Although Madison was acquitted of all charges, the public perception of her was terrible. She was accused of murder, and no matter how hard she tried to explain that CW was responsible for the killings, no one believed her. They thought she’d simply made up CW to get away with her crimes. She’d recently been invited on a podcast where she was humiliated, and her haters soon became more aggressive. She not only had to worry about CW showing up in her life once again but also the haters who relentlessly pestered her every minute via prank calls and fake deliveries. Madison figured she had to prove to the world that CW existed, and the only way to do so was by finding the murderer.
Madison searched online to see if any other influencer had recently died under mysterious circumstances, and that was when she learned about Charlotte. According to the report, Charlotte’s Instagram account was active even at the time the coroner had announced her dead. Madison searched for clues on Charlotte’s Instagram account, and she realized that whoever had been using her account was in France. So, she ended up traveling to the spots that were on her feed, but she couldn’t find CW. She ended up at the chateau; she had noticed CW and Diane in the background of one of the videos Charlotte had uploaded. She kept searching for clues online and used the chateau location to find relevant pictures, and that was when she came across Diane’s profile, and even her mother’s. She contacted Diane’s mother and she found out that Diane and Catherine, aka CW, had moved to Bali, Indonesia.
Madison traveled to Bali and kept a close watch on Diane’s social media. There she met Jacob, a ‘sigma-male’ influencer who advised young men to basically be misogynistic. He and his girlfriend, Ariana, propagated conservative values and urged their young audience to go back to the ‘good old days.’ While Ariana held a trad-wife image online, she was very much a businesswoman who was the brains behind her and Jacob’s social media presence. Jacob was dared by his friend to interact with Madison, and during their interaction, she mentioned the actual reason she was in Bali. Jacob was curious about the whole murder angle, and he saved Madison’s number in case he actually ran into the ‘girl with a prominent birthmark on her face.’ As luck would have it, Jacob ran into CW the next morning, and he decided to put her on the spot. He asked her if she was a murderer and tried to infuriate her with allegations, but CW didn’t give anything away.
Now, of course, CW was worried after the whole incident. Her AI companion advised her to leave Bali, but she had something else in mind. She enjoyed the thrill of being chased, and she refused to run away out of fear. She thrived on being in control of every situation, and this time it was no different. She tracked down Jacob and pretended to have simply run into him. She played the innocent helpless victim and hoped she could lure Jacob by offering him sexual favors, but she was surprised when he declined her offer. After he fell asleep at the party, CW drained his phone battery and later sneaked into Jacob’s house and searched for anything humiliating enough on his computer that she could use against him. She found a video of Ariana and Jacob in a sexually compromising position with another man, and she knew they would be destroyed if she uploaded the video. She hacked into his system to get remote access to his computer. Ariana almost caught her in the act, and when she threatened to call the police, CW confidently told her that she and Jacob had been physically intimate, implying that she knew him very well.
How did CW try to frame Madison?
Ariana was devastated when she discovered that her scandalous video had been leaked online. Her friends and family texted and called her, and her fans were furious with this unexpected turn of events. They were supposed to be the face of conservative traditional lifestyle, but clearly they didn’t practice what they preached in their real lives. Ariana tried contacting Jacob, and when she couldn’t reach him, she ended up calling his friend, Cameron. Now, Cameron hated Ariana because he thought she was too controlling. He lied about Jacob sleeping with another woman (CW) and that he didn’t care about her at all. Ariana felt helpless; she thought it was all over—her relationship, her career, and her life altogether. She went home, grabbed a sharp knife, and slashed her throat. She perhaps regretted doing it because the decision was taken in haste. She saw her phone ringing, but of course, she collapsed before she could receive the call. Jacob had no idea what was going on. His phone was dead, and he was under the assumption that CW was in the room with him the whole time. He didn’t feel sympathetic towards her; instead, he trusted Madison, and he had planned a confrontation (between Madison and CW) that he intended to live stream. When he discussed his plans with Cameron, he was a little surprised. He realized Jacob hadn’t found out about the tape, and he didn’t even mention it. By the time Jacob returned home, Ariana was dead. Madison was at the scene, and Jacob immediately assumed she’d killed Ariana. In a moment of confusion, Madison ended up hurting Jacob with a knife that she was holding. He figured that he’d got it wrong; Madison was the real killer, and CW was actually innocent. Regardless, he was physically not in a position to help CW. Madison and CW got into an intense physical fight where Madison ended up overpowering CW and knocking her out. She tied her legs and arms before she left the villa. Madison used CW’s phone to find the place she’d been staying in Bali. She found evidence at her house, including the picture she’d taken of Charlotte, her multiple fake passports, and other belongings of Diane. Madison had hoped CW would surrender once since she had nowhere else to escape to, but CW chose violence over surrender. Madison also found out that CW had hacked Jason’s webcam to keep a watch on his villa.
How did Madison expose CW?
Jacob soon regained consciousness, and although he’d lost a lot of blood, he figured he must help CW, and together they should find a way to get Madison arrested. He removed the tape and freed CW. As soon as she woke up, she realized that Jacob hadn’t yet figured out the truth. But when Jacob got hold of Ariana’s phone, he discovered that CW had visited his villa the previous night and Ariana had texted him about it. She’d also sent him the sex tape and hoped he would have some explanation for what was going on and find a way to fix things. By the time Jacob started connecting the dots, it was too late. CW repeatedly stabbed Jacob and pushed him into the pool. She believed people like Jacob were cancer to society, and well, someone had to do the job of cleaning up the mess, so here she was getting rid of one influencer after another.
During Influencers’ ending, CW realized that the entire world had witnessed her kill Jacob. As it turned out, CW had remote access to Jacob’s computer, and so Madison used it to her advantage and started a live stream. Surprisingly, even after witnessing a murder, the viewers weren’t really concerned. It just goes to show how twisted the world has become, where a murder on live stream is considered entertaining. Although people like Jacob and Ariana do more damage to society than good, that can never be a reason good enough to just murder someone. Most of the viewers applauded CW, and she was reduced to a sexual object that people fantasized about. The moment CW figured out that she’d been exposed to the world, she stopped caring. She couldn’t get away with this, and perhaps she’d figured that she didn’t even have anything to lose. Before being arrested, she figured she would unleash mayhem and just kill whoever came in her way. CW frantically stabbed Cameron and the girls accompanying him. By then she didn’t even care how the world perceived her anymore; she was filled with rage, and she enjoyed the thrill of just killing people one after the other. The segment can also be considered a commentary on the audience’s fascination with murder thrillers, where the killer is often sexualized or even idolized.
What does the future have in store for CW and Madison?
In Influencers’ ending, Madison is seen leaving CW’s house. She had collected all the evidence necessary to prove CW guilty, and it can be assumed that she will inform the local cops, and perhaps they will involve Interpol, since it’s a case of cross-border crime. There is nowhere left for CW to escape, and she knows it well. She will either be arrested, or she might as well kill herself before she ends up behind bars. Considering the number of murder charges against her, it’s likely that she won’t escape a death sentence. CW always wanted to be in complete control of every situation, and given her options, killing herself seems to be the only way to be in complete control of her life until her last breath. Madison will finally get to live a dignified life. She will no longer have to live in the constant fear of being targeted by CW or even her haters. It’s difficult to say if she’ll start using social media, but she will definitely start to move on and focus on her future.
