‘Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years’ Summary & Review – A Glimpse Into Childhood

Published

For most of us, Dish TV was the only medium of entertainment in our childhood. Be it the Looney Tunes show on Cartoon Network or programs on channels like Pogo and Nickelodeon, everything is preserved in our memories. However, with the advent of the Internet, Television boxes have turned into fossils and their viewership is almost dead. Major Studios and channels are therefore reviving the old titles giving them an “ultra HD” touch. And with this experiment, enters a new revision to the world of SpongeBob, a CGI animated series, Kamp Koral SpongeBob’s Under Years.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years is directed by Stephen Hillenburg and developed by Luke Brookshier for Paramount+. Season 1 told in  6 episodes of 22 minutes each, acts as a prequel to the original cartoon series, SpongeBob SquarePants.

The story revolves around a 10-year-old SpongeBob and his gang of other sea friends like Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs, Sandy Cheeks, and others. All these major characters are having a gala time and spending their summertime in a sleepaway camp managed by Mr. Krabs. Within this setup, there are different situations with each SpongeBob and his friends deal with.

While Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years tries hard to look crisp and cool visually but it lacks depth and color. Maybe, we are just too familiar with those high-contrasted characters and though the ones in this new series look modern, they also look superficial or fake, in simpler terms. Even the situations aren’t that funny or gripping. They lack a very basic ingredient, the innocence of the character. The writing is too cosmetic and sometimes extremely loud. A series of calculative humor, in most of the cases.

If you are looking forward to stream Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, then, in my opinion, you can totally stream the original series again, to travel on a journey of nostalgia. This spin-off series by Paramount is a wasted attempt and an ultra-high-definition headache. Skip it, and you won’t miss anything.
