‘Landman’ Season 2 Episode 10 Theories And Predictions: Will Tommy Return To M-Tex?

Published

In episode 9 of Landman Season 2, Angela showed Paigyn who’s boss by removing Ainsley from the dorm she was supposed to share with them and moving her to a hotel along with the rest of the cheerleading team. Thomas and Cheyenne got to know each other much better. Rebecca and Charlie buried the hatchet and decided to be a couple again, even though they won’t be close to each other in a consistent fashion over the next 6 months, given Charlie will be at the offshore gas-drilling rig. Rebecca then joined Tommy, Nate, Dale, Cami, Dan, and Bella at the rig-hauling party. Blanton’s attorneys, McDougal and James, were incredibly happy that this project had been greenlit after being stuck in legal hell for quite some time. In stark contrast to that, Tommy was pretty depressed throughout the episode, and then Cami added to that sadness by announcing that she was firing him, because he wasn’t enthusiastic enough for the future of M-Tex. Things came to a close with Cooper rescuing Ariana from the clutches of Johnny, a jilted and banned patron of the Patch Cafe, and nearly punching him to death. Based on all this, what can we expect to see in the finale of Landman Season 2? Allow me to speculate.

Spoiler Alert

First and foremost, I think episode 10 of Landman Season 2 will be centered around Tommy’s departure from M-Tex. I mean, yes, Thomas had advised him multiple times to focus on his family instead of spending so much time on work. After Cami’s deal with Dan, even Tommy was coming to the realization that he wasn’t needed anymore at M-Tex. That was why he was cementing Cooper’s place in M-Tex, so that even if he left the company, his son would stay employed and have enough money to support Ariana and little Miguel. Tommy getting fired is not only going to affect Cooper, but the rest of his family as well. I mean, there are bound to be some legal repercussions to Cooper beating Johnny to a pulp, even though Cooper was rescuing Ariana from Johnny. If Johnny is a well-connected guy, there’s a good chance he’ll take Cooper to court. Tommy could have asked Nate and Rebecca to help him out with that, but he can’t anymore. So, the only way Cooper has a shot at not getting into a pickle is if Johnny doesn’t press charges, feels embarrassed for what he has done, tucks his tail between his legs, and runs away. But will Cami allow Cooper to be a part of M-Tex if his father isn’t an employee of the company anymore? Cami might get paranoid and fire Cooper in anticipation of Tommy trying to sabotage her beloved company through his son. If that happens, that’ll jeopardize Tommy’s career and his future with Ariana and Miguel. I don’t know if Barney will allow Ariana to stay on at the Patch Cafe as an employee, because he’d like to avoid any kind of controversy. So, yeah, all in all, things aren’t looking good for this lot.

Tommy’s firing is probably going to serve as a wake-up call for Angela and Ainsley. Look, I’m going to give the show creators the benefit of the doubt and say that they didn’t do that whole Paigyn subplot unironically, and they are eventually going to give those ladies a reality check. How so? In the form of Tommy’s firing. Every bit of privilege that Ainsley and Angela have been enjoying is because of the hefty salary Tommy draws from M-Tex. If he’s been fired, he’ll get a decent severance package, but that’s going to be finite, and something finite will never satiate Angela and Ainsley’s endless desires and demands. Hopefully, if Angela and Ainsley are cut off from Tommy’s funds, they’ll come back down to Earth and actually learn to adjust instead of telling others to simply “fix themselves.” The two ways I see Tommy coming back to M-Tex are if the employees stage a protest or the offshore drilling project goes sideways almost immediately. Given the state of the employment sector and the lack of unions in M-Tex, I don’t see a protest happening. Maybe Nate and Dale will leave, because they are old anyway. But they are replaceable. Also, it’s possible that Tommy won’t want them to leave, because he wouldn’t like to willingly jeopardize their lives for his sake. Which leaves us with the second option: the gas-drilling project crashing and burning, thereby prompting Cami to come running back to Tommy for help.

Do I think Charlie will purposefully sabotage the rig, risking his career and his romance with Rebecca, in order to get Tommy back at the helm? I don’t think so. But this is the ocean we are talking about, and that too a spot in the ocean that was supposedly hit by Hurricane Francine. Hence, many, many things could go wrong, and if things get too complicated for Charlie and Rebecca to handle, I think they’ll need Tommy to maneuver M-Tex out of that pickle. What else? Oh, Thomas and Cheyenne’s weird little relationship is also probably going to be hampered by Tommy’s firing, because he won’t be able to be as indulgent as he always is. Thomas’ morale was starting to improve, and due to this speedbump, he might just re-enter his depressive phase. Or there’s a good chance that his brief relationship with Cheyenne has improved his morale enough to be the pillar of support that Tommy needs him to be during these tough times? So far, we’ve only gotten little glimpses of Thomas’ expertise and if Tommy needs to start things from scratch, his dad might just be able to remind him of his roots. Who knows? Maybe Thomas and Tommy will end up starting a business of their own if neither Dan nor Cami wants Tommy.

In addition to all that, I think we’re going to get some kind of a payoff regarding Dan’s desperation to break into the oil business. I mean, Tommy has voiced his reservations about Dan’s need to be associated with M-Tex. If that amounts to nothing, and Dan just turns out to be a legitimate businessman, what’d be the point? We barely got to see the cartel side of Dan. He has played nice throughout the season. Therefore, it’s possible that if things go south, Dan is going to let that mask drop, and Cami’s going to regret not heeding Tommy’s advice about not working with him. Alternatively, Dan might force Cami to cancel Tommy’s firing and bring him back on the team because he’s always been of the opinion that Cami might be the face of M-Tex but it’s Tommy who gets the job done. So, without Tommy, Dan might be reluctant about backing M-Tex during these risky times. If Cami doesn’t want Tommy in her company, Dan might make him a part of Angelus Investments, which’ll allow Tommy to take care of the offshore drilling operation without directly being a part of M-Tex. Anyway, all this is just speculation. Some of these predictions might come true, some of them might not, or maybe none of them might come true. The possibilities are endless. All we have to do is wait till next week to find out. Until then, if you have any thoughts about Landman Season 2 Episode 10, let me know in the comments section below.
