In the previous episode of Lioness season 2, Joe found out that Josephina Carrillo was lying to them about not knowing Spanish and what kind of business her family was involved in. The revelation changed a lot of things, and most of all, the CIA lost trust in Josephina. When Joe asked Josephina why she did that, the latter told her that she didn’t want her reputation to get tarnished. She told Joe that she loved her country and that she didn’t want to deal with any unnecessary biases because of her family. So let’s find out what happened in Lioness season 2, episode 4, and if Joe still sends Josephina in as an undercover agent or if she changes her plan.
Spoiler Alert
What did Byron and Kaitlyn advise Joe to do?
Joe informed Byron Westfield and Kaitlyn Meade that Josephina knew how to speak Spanish, and she was also aware her father and uncle were running a cartel. Byron and Kaitlyn told Joe that her Lioness couldn’t be trusted and that she would have to make sure that she didn’t backstab them at the very last moment. Joe didn’t know what to do or how to make sure that Josephina didn’t defect when the time came. Byron suggested that they should send another person to shadow her and be with her at all times. Joe was totally against planting a shadow who would keep a watch on the Lioness because that spoiled the entire point of Josephina being sent there in the first place. Being discreet and not letting the enemy know what they were up to was paramount. But Byron was adamant, and he told Joe that if a shadow was there, they would at least be able to curtail the damage. Joe had fought a lot to get her superiors’ approval for the mission, and now that she was ready to launch an operation, she didn’t want to deal with such unnecessary hassle. Joe was not left with any option, as she also couldn’t think of any better alternative. Joe had somebody in mind whom she wanted to include in the team and send her to shadow Josephina.
What did Gutierrez want from Joe?
Joe, in Lioness episode 4, realized that somebody was following her car. She got in touch with Kyle and told him about the situation. Kyle was also keeping track of Joe’s movements, and she hated that fact. Kyle told her that due to the sensitivity of the mission and the audaciousness of their enemy, he was compelled to do so. Joe and Kyle decided to corner the car that was following the former and confront him face to face. Kyle ran the number plate, and he got to know that the Lincoln following Joe’s car belonged to a man named Randall Newman, who, back in the day, had made an immunity deal with the US Attorney’s Office. This man was involved in a money laundering case in 2021, and he’d been represented by the DEA office. It became clear that this man who was following Joe wanted them to know who he was. He wanted them to come and confront him. Joe and Kyle learned that this man was a DEA agent named Guiterrez, and his sole intention of following Joe was to be a part of the entire mission. He told her that without the DEA’s support, she would put the lives of her entire team in jeopardy. He informed her about the kind of people she was dealing with and the extreme measures they could resort to if things didn’t go their way. Joe obviously didn’t want an outsider to be a part of the CIA mission, but Byron and Kaitlyn convinced her to do otherwise. Byron told her that every other agency wanted a piece of the pie, not because they wanted to fight for their country, but for the simple reason that they wanted their annual budgets to increase. The agencies were aware of how big the stakes were; they knew the kind of accolades they would get if the mission was a success. Joe didn’t like the kind of compromise she was being asked to make. Firstly, she didn’t want a shadow to be planted, and secondly, she didn’t want a DEA agent to be a part of her team. But once again, she wasn’t left with much of a choice, and she agreed to take Guiterrez on board.
Why Did Joe Go To Meet Cruz?
In Lioness season 2, episode 4, Cruz Manuelos finally made a comeback as Joe went to meet her. Joe needed somebody to shadow Josephina, and Cruz was the one person she could trust. She knew that Cruz was the kind of person who put her duty toward the nation above anything else. Cruz was horrified to find Joe in her house. Her heart sank as she knew what she’d come there for. Joe told her about what she wanted from her, and Cruz didn’t understand why, of all people, she had chosen her only. Joe told her upfront that it was a sensitive vision, and even if they had their differences, Joe knew that Cruz was the best fit for the job. Joe told Cruz that she might curse her for what she had put her through, but by doing what she did, she saved a lot of lives. Joe told Cruz that after Amrohi, the number of terrorist activities had reduced drastically. Cruz knew how Joe functioned, and the moment she saw her at her house, she knew that she didn’t have the option to say no to her. Cruz packed her bags and got ready for action. Now, I believe that somewhere deep down, she really wanted to be a part of such a mission, though it was an undeniable fact that she hated Joe. Cruz wanted to make a difference. She wanted to save lives and fight for her country, and being a part of Joe’s mission gave her that option.
What Did Joe Find At The Warehouse?
Gutierrez told Joe about a warehouse, around 30 miles south of the US-Mexican border, where he suspected some suspicious activities were taking place. Joe was not sure at first about launching an attack at the warehouse, considering she didn’t have any knowledge about what was happening there and who was present there. Joe deployed the satellites and used them to get information about the target area. Joe and her team eliminated the target and barged into the warehouse. They were shocked to find hundreds of women and underage girls inside the building. Joe, for a moment, became numb, and she couldn’t understand how to proceed from there.
Josephina informed Joe that local police were headed toward them. Joe immediately asked her to attack the police, as they didn’t have much of an option. Later, Joe asked her team to evacuate the place and quickly escape leaving the women and children behind. It was quite clear that the cartel was involved in human trafficking. The young girls were being trafficked from Mexico to the US, and Joe realized that the cartel didn’t only deal with drugs. This revelation at the end of season 2, episode 4, will change a lot of things. Joe will probably have to change her tactics and find a way to rescue those girls. There was much more at stake than what Joe believed to be. It would be interesting to see how Joe tackles the situation and if she is able to successfully lay the trap for Josephina’s uncle and father.
