‘Little Siberia’ Movie Ending Explained: Did Krista Get Pregnant?

Published

Little Siberia’s ending was all about answering 2 questions: who was trying to steal the meteorite? And how did Krista get pregnant? So, in the Finnish town of Hurmevaara, a meteorite randomly landed inside the car of a former rally driver, Tarvainen. Instead of letting him be its sole owner, it was promptly seized by Jokinen and put in the town museum in the hopes that it’d attract hordes of tourists and scientists, thereby boosting their economy. The security guards at the museum weren’t alert and agile enough to do, well, anything. That’s why Jokinen turned to Joel, a former soldier and currently a pastor, and urged him to take up the job. This offer came during a time when Joel was facing a massive personal issue; he was sterile, and yet his wife, Krista, was pregnant. Since his wife wasn’t telling him the truth, Joel accepted the job to stay as far away as possible from her. On his first night as a security guard, there was a break-in, thereby prompting Joel to go on a manhunt to identify the person who had unsuccessfully tried to steal the meteorite. Parallel to that, he was also trying to ascertain Krista’s paramour. Did he get any concrete answers? Let’s find out.

Spoiler Alert

Krista left Joel

Around the halfway point of Little Siberia, it was revealed that two Russians, Mikis and Petar, had arrived in Hurmevaara to steal the meteorite. Joel managed to kill Mikis, and he accidentally incapacitated Petar, thereby thwarting them for the time being. This was the 2nd time in Joel’s tenure as the security guard of the museum that these thieves had tried to take the meteorite. In the 1st attempt, Joel had noticed that this team of hoodlums had 3 people in it. Joel had identified Mikis and Petar, and he knew that the third thief had a very distinct smell. After doing some detective work, he was sure it was the bartender, Karoliina. His theory was pretty much confirmed by Petar as he met Joel in the church and told him that he was in love with Karoliina. However, there was no way for Joel to prove that these 2 were the perpetrators until he caught them red-handed.

Hence, before the 3rd attempt at stealing the meteorite happened, Joel decided to finally have a conversation about his sterility with Krista and why that was the reason he suspected that she was pregnant with someone else’s child. Krista was heartbroken that Joel had kept this a secret for so long, thereby causing her to doubt her ability to have a child, and he was now accusing her of cheating. She realized that Joel had gone too far off the deep end, and there was no way to get him to trust her again. So, she decided to leave for Helsinki so as to give both of them the time and space to think about what they wanted from this relationship. Only after she was gone did Joel realize the error of his ways. He understood that he should have cherished the fact that he and Krista were going to have a child, when so many families in Hurmevaara were trying and failing to have one, instead of going on this arduous journey to try and identity the father.

Tarvainen Stole The Meteorite

Joel’s enlightenment was ill-timed, because Karoliina and Petar had abducted Krista and were holding her hostage so as to get Joel to steal the meteorite for them. The reason why Karoliina was orchestrating this whole heist was because she was sick and tired of her life as a bartender and as an OnlyFans model, that too in a dead town like Hurmevaara. I don’t think she was in love with Petar. She intended to make him the fall guy and run off with the meteorite, sell it to the highest bidder, make a ton of money, and live it up somewhere far away from her hometown.

All this wasn’t apparent when Karoliina was explaining how Petar and his accomplice were planning to break into the museum, though. She made it seem like she had overheard their plan and was giving vital information about the burglary to Joel. It was only after Joel trapped Petar and was then himself held at gunpoint by Karoliina that the pastor understood that Karoliina was the mastermind of this whole operation. Maybe Joel was an idiot, or it was just too hard for him to believe that a woman like Karoliina would think about stealing from the museum. Anyway, since Joel hadn’t killed Petar, Karoliina had to change things up a bit. She got Joel to steal the meteorite and hand it over to the duo so that the pastor would be arrested for theft while Karoliina and Petar escaped with the precious object. I guess Karoliina would have parted ways with Petar eventually, but since she needed him to escape from Hurmevaara, she didn’t kill him or get him killed. Unfortunately or fortunately, Tarvainen showed up in the middle of the burglary, took the meteorite, and went home with it.

Joel rescued Krista

Joel left Karoliina and Petar to their devices and tried to retrieve the rock from Tarvainen. The former rally car racer had been depressed ever since his navigator, Sulevi, died in a collision caused by Tarvainen. So, when the meteorite dropped in his car, Tarvainen saw that as a sign from Sulevi to restart his life by resuming racing. Although Joel sympathized with Tarvainen, he couldn’t let him have the meteorite. Joel needed to put it back in the museum, or else he’d be accused of stealing because his fingerprints were all over the case it was being kept in. Tarvainen was too drunk and too angry to act rationally; so, he stabbed Joel and tried to make a run for it with the meteorite. Sadly, he didn’t get very far as he unknowingly began running over the frozen lake, and when its surface gave way, Tarvainen drowned, along with the meteorite; it was a full-circle moment of sorts. However, Joel still had to save Krista.

In Little Siberia’s ending, Joel got a message from the kidnapper’s phone to come to the gym and hand over the meteorite if he wanted to reunite with his wife. Of course, he couldn’t reveal that the meteorite was gone. So, he picked up a rock and hoped that Karoliina and Petar were stupid enough to not be able to differentiate between a random rock and a meteorite. When Joel reached the gym, he found that Raystainen, the trainer who had always fancied Krista, was the one who had kidnapped Krista and delivered her to Karoliina and Petar. Apparently Raystainen’s gym was going to be shut down by the bank because business was on the decline. So, when Karoliina probably offered him a share of the money she’d get after selling the meteorite, Raystainen agreed to become a criminal. But then Karoliina and Petar trapped the gym trainer on his own treadmill, which was strapped to a grenade and would explode if Raystainen stopped running. Joel let Raystainen suffer and went after Petar and Karoliina. During the negotiation for Krista’s life, Petar got shot by Karoliina so that Joel couldn’t use him as a bargaining chip. Krista used her dancing skills to get away from Karoliina, and Joel used this moment of chaos to incapacitate Karoliina by shooting her with his gun.

Krista’s Pregnancy Was God’s Blessing

During the concluding moments of the film, we saw that Joel and Krista had worked out their differences and were happy parents to their miracle child. The reason why I’m calling their son a “miracle child” is because that’s the only reasonable explanation. Krista clearly loved Joel a lot. She wasn’t a cheater. I know that a lot of viewers will say otherwise, but that won’t change my stance. Joel was sterile through and through. He was a man of God. He had led a straightforward life, and he had tried his best to make sure that his town stayed on the path of righteousness as well. His only insecurity was that he had failed to become a father and make Krista a mother. So, maybe God saw all that and blessed the couple with a child. In addition to that, God blessed the town with a money-making opportunity, i.e., the meteor.

However, while the town gave in to greed, Joel gave in to suspicion. Despite believing in religion and telling everyone about having faith in God, Joel couldn’t accept the notion that God had probably worked in one of his mysterious ways and made the impossible possible. Well, if he did, maybe he would’ve kept asking God for more. Since he took the hard route to realizing that God was watching over him and his family, I think he’ll cherish the Almighty’s gift, his son, and love Krista with all his heart for the rest of his life. In case you are wondering what actually happened to Karoliina, Petar, and Raystainen, I am going to guess that Raystainen testified to the police, thereby clearing Joel’s name, and the gym trainer was then sent to jail. If Karoliina and Petar didn’t bleed to death, I guess they must have been sent to prison too for trying to steal a meteorite 3 times. As they say, all’s well that ends well. Anyway, those are just my thoughts on the ending of Little Siberia. What are your opinions on the same? Please let me know through the comments section below.
