Ricky Morrisey The Rhode Island Scammer: Where Is He Now?

Published

In the second case of Love Con Revenge, I almost believed that the scammer was not somebody who used to con women on a regular basis but a victim of his own circumstances. The second story focuses on the Rhode Island Scammer, Ricky Morrisey, who used his army background to win the trust of girls. He looked like somebody who was suffering from PTSD, and so I felt that he was probably reacting in that erratic manner because of that, and he didn’t mean any harm. But guess what? I was guessing, and he was probably the worst of all. The excuses he made, the fake stories he cooked up, the way he broke the trust of these women, and most of all, the way he reacted when he got caught at the end told us how unabashedly he went about his business. So, let’s find out who Ricky Morrisey was, how he scammed those poor women, and where he is as of now.

How did Ricky scam Bridget Phillips?

Ricky told Bridget Phillips, after meeting her on a dating app, that he had served in the military for more than a decade, and he suffered from PTSD. He told her that he trained dogs after his voluntary retirement and that his dog, Zeus, was an MWD (military working dog). He said that he had brought Zeus with him because they both had been affected by the harrowing reality that they were exposed to in Iraq. He also said that his friend Clarence took a bullet for him during his service and had apparently succumbed to his injuries. Among the many excuses that he had made to extract money out of Bridget, one of them was that he regularly gave money to Clarence’s family, especially his widow and his young children, as he felt that it was his responsibility to look after them. I mean, there couldn’t have been a better ploy than that. It was an extremely emotional backstory, and so if someone wanted to borrow money for that purpose, then how could anybody deny them? This is how you win the trust of a person: you present yourself as someone suffering from so many issues, but still driven to look after your friends’ family. Bridget started giving him money, at first due to sympathy and then out of a strange compulsion, which she realized much later. One day, she saw that her bank account was empty and somebody had taken out all her money through consecutive transactions. Apart from Ricky, there was nobody else who knew her ATM PIN, and so she confronted him. The man shamelessly told her that he didn’t do it and then started crying, telling her that he was messed up in his head. Frankly speaking, I felt bad for him at that moment. I actually thought that he was just not doing well and felt apologetic for putting Bridget in such a difficult position. But that was not so. It was all a very well-thought-out plan, which we got to know once Bridget came in contact with Cecilie Fjellhøy and private investigator Brianne Joseph. It was them who tracked the Rhode Island scammer and got to know that every single thing he had told Bridget was one big lie. I have to say hats off to their effort, because had they not gone to such an extent, Bridget would have never gotten the answers and justice she deserved.

Where is Ricky Morrisey now?

Firstly, Brianne and Cecilie tracked down Clarence’s family, and they went to meet Abrill, his sister. They got to know that Clarence had lost his life due to an accident where an IED (improvised explosive device) had exploded, taking his life. Secondly, Brianne and Cecilie talked to Ricky’s colleagues, who told them that firstly, he had only served for 3 to 4 years and that their platoon didn’t have a dog with them. So everything about PTSD and the dog, Zeus, and him being a dog trainer was one big lie. Also, they got their hands on CCTV camera footage from the ATM from which Ricky had withdrawn money. He shamelessly faced the camera while taking the money of a poor girl. Bridget did not come from such a privileged background that even after being scammed, she would be able to spend the rest of her life with ease. The amount that was stolen by Ricky mattered to Bridget, which was why she broke down when she saw her account balance and confronted the scammer.

Brianne and Cecilie made a breakthrough when they found out through multiple victims that Ricky could be in Orlando. They went there and met another victim named Jeannie O’Donnell, from whom Ricky had taken approximately $12,000. She gave Brianne, Cecilie, and Bridget the address of the man, and they were lucky enough to find him on the streets in the neighborhood. All three of them, Brianne, Cecilie, and Bridget, confronted the man, and he just said that he wouldn’t say anything to confirm their accusations. The CCTV camera footage, combined with the testimonies of the victims, was enough to extradite Ricky back to Rhode Island, where a trial was initiated and he was found guilty of larceny, fraudulent use of a credit card, and access to a computer for fraudulent purposes. Netflix’s documentary stated that Ricky is currently awaiting sentencing; however, as per an “unverified” source, he was sentenced on 5th September 2025 and has been sent to prison.

I was just amused after witnessing the story of the man. He stood here outside Bridget’s house trying to convince her that it was all one big mistake and that he hadn’t stolen her money. I mean, imagine the mindset of the guy and the world he lives in. Even when he was arrested, quite annoyingly, he made all sorts of excuses. Not even once did he reflect on how he made those women feel. Somebody like Bridget, who had such limited resources, didn’t know what to do after all she had was taken by this scammer. That man didn’t even have the courage to answer her properly when she confronted him at the end. I will not shy away from saying that I got a lot of pleasure when he was confronted and when he was being cuffed. People like Ricky get on your nerves, and believe me when I say this, he should be glad that he was in a country where mob justice has gone out of fashion. I wish, and I genuinely hope, that the court takes strict action against him and teaches him a lesson that he will remember for his entire life.
