Love Is Blind has been a global phenomenon since it hit our pandemic screens, and I honestly don’t get the hype. But, having said that, I do like it a lot more than some of the other romantic reality TV monstrosities I’ve had to sit through. The thing is, when you start the show, it’s really exciting, because everybody’s asking interesting questions, trying to get to know each other, but as soon as you get to date number 3, they get way too randy all of a sudden. The surprising thing about Love Is Blind: Germany to me is the age group that is part of this experiment. The oldest contestant on this one is 42, and yet the most immature of the lot. But we’ll get into that a little bit later. Anyway, before I turn this into a rant about Andi, let’s get into our recap of the first 8 episodes of Season 2.
Who Are The Most Interesting Contestants?
Love Is Blind: Germany Season 2 starts off in typical fashion, with 15 single women and 15 single men trying their hand at the gamble that is falling in love with someone before first sight. The beginning of the show always feels like a blur, because there are so many participants, and you don’t really have to pay attention to most of them, because there’s a good chance they won’t show up by the end of it. But there’s always a few people who stand out based on what they say, and obviously because of how the show’s edited. In this case, Gunnar is the most interesting person I’ve seen on the show (I’ve only ever seen one season of “Love Is Blind UK,” so make of that what you will), because he decided to put himself through the humiliation of explaining to multiple people in a blind love experiment that he doesn’t want kids.
On the other hand, I can’t go without talking about 42-year-old Andi being the most annoying person on the show and still getting three girls to fall for him for no apparent reason. Celia, Nadja, and Yasmin are all incredible women who, I guess, don’t end up seeing the red flags of this old man, because I guess they took the title of this show too seriously. I might sound harsh, but seeing as he is still single at age 42, there might be reason to steer clear. I mean, it’s cool that these women are willing to give him a chance, but after what he did to Celia at the end there, I realized how much I really despise this guy.
Anyway, during the first dates, there are two couples that form almost immediately, and they are Konstantin and Jessi, and Jan and Loan. Jan tells us that he often gets friend-zoned, and I think I can tell why. But even being the youngest of the men, he’s still way more mature than Andi. I say I understand the friendzoning bit because that’s exactly what happens on the show as well. Also, it’s really funny his obsession with grammar and how that really drove home the connection with Loan. With Konstantin and Jessi, it didn’t take much for them to impress each other, because they feel like two sides of the same coin. Also, they both like German bar music, so that’s fun. I hope we get to see them dance to some later.
There is some drama when it comes to the love triangle between Josy, Jubriel, and Wandi. Josy has a connection with Gunnar and Jubriel, and she confides in both of them about the death of her father six months earlier. Jubriel’s reaction is to tell her about how he would comfort her physically by giving her a warm hug, but Gunnar has a more emotional reaction to what she says, and she thinks he’s weak at first. However, after thinking about it a little bit, she realizes she’s misjudged him because of her internalized misogyny and decides to give him another chance. At the same time, it looks like Jubriel had made up his mind about Josy, specifically because he thought they had fiery, passionate chemistry. But then it almost seems like he’s forcing himself to talk to the inexperienced Wandi.
Okay, but the craziest thing about this whole dating situation is Andi telling Celia that he wants to have a special date with her and then talking to Yasmin, changing his mind, and telling Nadja to tell Celia that he’s not going through with the date. This man is meant to be 42 years old, might I add. Honestly, Yasmin, Dustin was so much better for you.
Who Are The Five Couples?
There are five couples formed after the dates, which makes it ten people out of thirty, which doesn’t sound that bad, I guess. We already discussed how Konsti and Jessi are the first to get engaged, then come Jan and Loan, then Jubriel and Wandi, Gunnar and Josy, and finally Andi and Yasmin. Amongst these, only Konsti and Jessi seem to honestly be mad about each other. On the other hand, as soon as the couples arrive in Crete, Jubriel and Wandi seem off-key. Already, Jubriel seemed to be wary of her because it was her first relationship (well, first real relationship). So really, it doesn’t make sense that he agreed to take things to the next level, especially considering how obsessed he was with the physical connection, and Wandi’s inexperience was something he didn’t really vibe with.
On the other hand, we found out when they were in the pods that Konsti had had brain tumor surgery, and Jessi was really sweet about it. However, it really doesn’t make sense that after all of that, when he brings up her smoking (not just smoking, but smoking too much), she gets mad. Honestly, he’s just speaking out of concern, but her defensive reaction felt really odd, and I don’t think they address it later in any real way. Yasmin and Andi seem to be getting along fine until he gets jealous of her talking to Dustin and gets in the way of that. I mean, he already said that he wouldn’t be jealous, so this was an added red flag.
Jan’s first reaction to seeing Loan was that she was showing too much cleavage, and I was wondering when the Germans got so chaste. This Gen-Z couple at first seems to be adorable, and they have a lot in common, but there is no spark. It’s all platonic, and it makes sense that Jan gets friend-zoned all the time. I don’t know what it is, though; still, it makes sense. When they’re on holiday in Crete, apparently, Jan spends more time looking at the other couples than he does looking at Loan. Finally, he sits her down and starts comparing their dynamic to those of the other couples, and Loan ends up looking crestfallen when she’d started out smiling. Comparison is the thief of joy. Gunnar and Josy’s connection seems to be quite organic, and despite her resistance to his baldness (but how did she know before! What is this sorcery?), they seem sweet. But the whole childless thing might get in the way when she makes her final decision.
Which Couples Are to Be Married?
Before things can get too complicated, Jubriel basically walks out on Wandi even before they get back from Crete. It seems all he really wanted was a physical connection (oh man, men!). On the other hand, friend-zoned Jan also walks away after Loan and he had already started making the guest list for the wedding, because he realizes there’s no love there. For the rest of the couples, the family and friends meetings go pretty well. Honestly, I was too busy looking at the beautiful scenery we got to see. For Yasmin, it was all about Andi’s big family, and Jessi’s meeting with Konsti’s family went swimmingly. For Gunnar and Josy, when Gunnar meets Josy’s friends, he’s really open about not wanting children, and she immediately says this could be something that could lead to a breakup. This feels like a big deal, but somehow, in the next episode, it’s forgotten. Then comes trying on the outfits for the wedding. The women look beautiful, and I loved Gunnar’s burgundy-brown suit.
In the ending of episode 8, we finally get to Andi and Yasmin’s wedding. Throughout Andi’s speech, it looks like Yasmin is certain about him, but this is Love Is Blind, and we’re left on a cliffhanger. Honestly, I feel like Yasmin’s going to say no, and I’ll tell you why. It’s because these two both chose their outfits on the second go, and it felt like they were having second thoughts. Not just about the outfits, but the wedding altogether. I know, it sounds a little far-fetched, but it’s just a theory. But then we get a compilation of what might come in the next two episodes. Let us know who you think will get married and who your favorite couple is!
