Episode 6 of Maxton Hall season 2 leaves us craving more because it feels like the first half of the season was simply a trailer, while the second half really gave us all the drama that we love this show for. However, I do have some qualms about the storyline, especially for a show that’s popular globally amongst the young. Remember when we were swooning over Ezra and Arya in “Pretty Little Liars” because we didn’t know any better? Well, that is the kind of relationship there needs to be consequences for, and should not be encouraged in the media, but it appears this Lydia and Sutton relationship has gone too far, and she’s even decided to keep the babies, which, honestly, is an uncalled-for situation right now. Not only is this illegal, but it also puts her entire life in jeopardy. Just because this man says he loves her doesn’t mean we should accept and appreciate this behavior, so I urge you to watch with caution and not condone such a story arc. But, of course, this is a recap of the final episode of season 2, so I won’t waste any more of your time with my lectures, let’s jump straight into episode 6.
Spoiler Alert
What Does Cordelia’s Will Say?
Maxton Hall episode 6 begins with Lexington talking to someone on the phone about the photo he’s been sent and about how it’s authentic and hasn’t been edited. This makes it clear that the discussion is about the picture of Ruby and Sutton, not Lydia and Sutton. We still think Mortimer sent it, right? Anyway, in the next sequence, we see James has ditched his father’s elite shareholders meeting, because it’s not like he makes any difference there, and joined Cyril for the lacrosse match, because that’s important to him. However, despite their best effort, unfortunately, they lose the match in the last minute, leaving Cyril bitter enough to blame Ruby yet again. However, James is a changed man, and he’s now very defensive of Ruby, so he reminds Cyril that this is no fault of hers. I wonder if the guy’s feeling guilty about sending the picture of Lydia and Sutton to Elaine.
In the meantime, Harold, Elaine’s father, makes a show at the shareholder meeting, saying he’s backing out of the company, though he’s the biggest investor of the company. Harold isn’t simply leaving because of what the company’s come down to since Cordelia’s death, though. Don’t be mistaken, this is all about his daughter Elaine’s humiliation. Didn’t realize grown adult men would do something like this for their daughters, but I guess it’s nice to see? If only Mortimer cared this much for Lydia. Now it looks like the company’s basically ruined, and really, Mortimer needs his kids’ voices to keep it afloat, but his ego’s too bloated for him to see how wrong he is by thinking everything is Ruby’s fault. The girl’s literally got nothing!
On the other hand, it’s nearly time for the will reading, and Lydia spends some time with Sutton at her mom’s grave (icky). Here’s the thing: Lydia believes her mother would’ve left everything to her kids to help them and also keep her company alive, because she knew Mortimer wouldn’t be able to handle this. But she doesn’t know what’s coming her way. Shockingly, when they go in with Aunt Ophelia, it’s revealed that Cordelia’s left everything to Mortimer and literally not even a penny for her kids. This makes zero sense to anybody who knows anything about this family. Mortimer simply says their mother was a “smart” woman for making this move, but Ophelia and the kids are determined to contest the will and force Mortimer to prove that he didn’t mess with it or coerce their mum into doing this.
Does Ruby Give the Scholarship Exam?
On the other hand, when Ruby returns home after the match, she’s hit with the most devastating news; their bakery has been sold off and her mother’s lost her job too. They can’t even think about buying it back now. It’s very clear that this is Mortimer’s doing, but unlike usual, this doesn’t leave Ruby running away from James again. Meanwhile, James goes to Alice Campbell to discuss the situation about Ruby’s scholarship. Alice tells James that she had no choice because his father is a powerful man with a lot of connections, and she had to choose between Ruby and her whole program for underprivileged kids that are sponsored by Mortimer. James calls her a coward and tells her she should learn a bit from Ruby, even telling her that his mother spoke of her with great praise because she was always so brave. I wonder if Alice will end up giving Ruby that scholarship in the future just because of this conversation.
Later, Lydia and James head to Cyril’s for a little gathering, just after James gives Ruby a pep talk. They’re still optimistic, and James believes his aunt’s lawyers won’t make it easy for Mortimer to take them on a ride like this. But they really don’t know what’s in store for them. Also, this man seriously thinks he’s doing right by his kids. Near the end of the episode, things look way more optimistic than they sound, because Ruby’s still excited about going to Oxford, and her final year in school finally looks happy, but we’ve got it all wrong because this is the high before we hit rock bottom. At the same time, Sutton is getting interrogated by the school council, where Mortimer sits right next to Lexington. Sutton thinks they’re talking about Lydia and tells the parents that he’s in love with the student, but when Lexington talks about the girl’s mother being on her way to the school, he’s shocked and asks to see the picture.
At the end of episode 6 of Maxton Hall season 2, it’s Ruby’s mom who is at Lexington’s office, and Ruby gets called up just as she’s poised to enter her exam. She’s immediately expelled, and Sutton is arrested, leaving Lydia feeling all alone and like she made a massive mistake. At the same time, Ruby and James are hugging in the background, as Ruby cries because she really doesn’t know what she can do next; rock bottom it is. The thing I don’t understand is, is messing with Ruby’s life meant to help Mortimer win back his son? I really don’t get it. Anyway, what did you think of this season?
