Konstantin Noskov and Merle Callahan, the leaders of the Russian Gang and the Aryan Gang, respectively, are the new gangsta-buddies who have forged an alliance against their common enemy, the Mayor of Kingstown, Mike McLusky. However, the question that I want to discuss is: How did Mike end up on their target list? And why did someone plant a bomb outside the police station? Well, I think it’s all connected to Season 2 of Mayor of Kingstown, when Mike betrayed the leaders of the gangs to bring stability to Kingstown but, in doing so, became their number one enemy.
Spoiler Alert
As you might remember, Mike sent all the gang leaders to prison to find a new leader so that he would be able to stop the violence. However, for the leaders, it was an act of betrayal. Mike tried to explain the situation and promised to bring them out of prison once they had done their job. But then came a new DA, who made it extremely difficult for Mike to complete his end of the bargain, which didn’t go well with the leaders of the gang, who declared war on Mike McLusky and swore to take revenge.
It was Caspar who ordered the first hit on Mike and sent his goons to shoot Mike in cold blood at the end of season 2. However, Mike sensed the danger and survived the attack. He later called Carney to teach Caspar a lesson so that he wouldn’t dare to cross the line again. Now, if you see it from a third person’s perspective, you will understand the reason behind the conflict. Mike helped Bunny come out of prison but failed to do the same for other leaders of the gang because he had made a special deal for Bunny, and he couldn’t have done the same for others. The fate of the other leaders lay in Evelyn’s hands, who, as it appeared, wanted these miscreants to rot in prison for the rest of their lives.
I believed Caspar and Mike’s rivalry finally came to an end with season 2, but I was wrong. Someone had planted a bomb in Evelyn Foley’s car, which Mike believed could be the doing of the Aryan gang, as Evelyn had been trying too hard to keep these leaders in prison. Mike went on a hunt to find out who was responsible for putting a bomb in the car during his mother’s funeral and finally got the intel of a secret stash house that belonged to the Aryans. But wait. Mike didn’t want KPD or SWATs to burn down the stash house. Instead, he wanted them to make arrests so that they could find more information and take appropriate action against them. But Robert just went there like a demolition expert and blew everything up, thereby inciting a violent war between the police and the Aryan Gang.
That was the reason why mob bosses brought in their most ruthless soldier, Merle Callahan, to Kingstown prison so that he could finish the war that the police had started. As soon as Merle came to prison, he got rid of the former leader, Caspar, so that he could take charge of the gang. Callahan later planned an attack on Bunny’s gang members so that he could take over their drug business. But, you see, Merle had nothing to do with Mike personally. Well, not until Konstantin Noskov proposed an alliance to join their forces against their common enemy, the police, and their mayor, Mike. Now Konstantin wanted to get rid of Mike, who had brought police to his doorstep, as the Russian mobster knew that Mike was going to create issues for him and wouldn’t let him run his business the way he wanted to. Merle and the Aryan Gang, on the other hand, blamed Mike for the loss of their stash house. Additionally, Mike’s close friendship with Bunny made him a rival to the other gangs, which was why it was important for them to end the reign of Mike McLusky.
Now, the end of episode 3 of Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 didn’t suggest who planted the bombs inside the car parked outside the police station, but from the looks of it, it seems Merle could be behind the operation. The Aryan Gang is known for their homemade bombs, and they have already used them once at the beginning of Season 3. Or maybe it was the Russians who had planted a similar bomb in Milo’s boat to get rid of him. Or maybe the new alliance between the Russians and the Aryans has finally come into action. They planned an attack on the police station to send out a clear message to the authorities that they shouldn’t meddle in their business, or they would pay the price with their lives. I am sure Mike would be able to connect the dots in the next episode, but even if he does find the identity of the secret bombers, would he be able to put them behind bars? Ian had already mentioned that they have no evidence against Konstantin, which makes him more dangerous than all the other antagonists. Additionally, Merle isn’t going to put his guard down, as he knows that Bunny and Raphael will try to take him out after he sends his goons to kill Raphael. So the war is brewing both inside and outside the prison, with the Mayor of Kingstown stuck in between them. And how will he solve it all? It seems like Mike would really need his arch-nemesis, Milo Suntar, to help him out in this dire situation. And yes, I am sure Milo isn’t dead. He would be coming back to take revenge for his wife’s death and might finally return to a peaceful life with his son.
