At times, certain series or films are executed in such a manner that I am not able to decipher the intention of the makers. Netflix’s Missing: Dead or Alive season 2 was one such true crime series, where I couldn’t feel invested till the very end. In my humble opinion, the series lacked any suspense and made the entire investigation process seem a bit bland, meaning I wasn’t even able to connect on an emotional level with the law enforcement officers who were deeply impacted by what they saw. The story is told through the point of view of one Sergeant Vicki Rains, and she tells the audience why she feels it’s her responsibility to find out about missing people and why she approaches her work with so much sincerity. It’s shown that Rains felt terrible because the parents of the victims had to go through so much, and how she felt that the least she could do was give them some closure. I understand the sentiment, but still, the screenplay was such that I never really got affected by it. The series lacked the human touch, and if the motive was to tell what an investigator goes through internally, then we should have been given a glimpse into their personal lives so that we understood their sensibilities. That said, let’s find out about what happened in the Morgan Duncan missing persons case, and if the 27-year-old boy hailing from South Carolina was ever found.
What Happened To Morgan Duncan?
Morgan Duncan went missing from his residence, where he lived alone, at Springtree Apartments in Columbia, South Carolina. His mother, LaTanza Duncan, was extremely worried, and she got in touch with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Sergeant Vicki Rains was handling the investigation, and she decided to first search Morgan’s house and check if she could find any evidence there. Morgan’s mobile phone, documents, and all his belongings were there in the house, which meant that even if he had gone someplace willingly, it wasn’t a planned trip. A woman, Julivia Waller, who apparently lived in the same neighborhood at her boyfriend’s place, came to talk to Rains and her colleagues. Rains felt that it was a pretty strange thing to do, as civilians generally hesitated before talking to the police. It came to be known that the residence was being used by a certain drug dealer named Jersey for dealing purposes. Nobody knew where this man lived, but Rains believed that he could have had something to do with Morgan. Rains also talked to a guy named James Kelly, who was Morgan’s neighbor. The guy was petrified, and it felt as if he was being threatened by somebody not to reveal the truth. Rains kept investigating, and she finally made a breakthrough when she got to know about Jersey’s location. The man was like a ghost, and even the people who were in touch with him didn’t know about his whereabouts most of the time. Luckily, an assault case was filed against him, and somebody from Rains’ department informed her, as they felt she could use the information. Jersey, aka Altariq Cuffie, was finally caught, and that’s when Rains realized that the mystery was more complicated than she had believed it to be.
Did Eric “Easy” Greene Kill Morgan?
Before catching Jersey, Rains had also met a man named Eric “Easy” Greene, and he told the officers that he was one of Morgan’s best friends. But Rains got to know that the reality was a bit different from what Greene told her it was. Jersey initially didn’t say anything, and he just kept repeating that he had nothing to do with Morgan’s disappearance or his death. But then, eventually, Jersey told Rains that he believed that a girl named Sunshine and Easy Greene were the ones who had killed Morgan. Sunshine, aka Julivia Waller, was the same girl who had talked to Rains and her colleagues, making the officers feel a little suspicious about her. From what James Kelly and Jersey told the police officers, we got to know that Greene had killed his so-called best friend, Morgan, and that too because of a petty debt. Apparently, Morgan used to buy drugs from Greene, but he often made the purchase on credit, as he didn’t have the money to pay him. One time Greene came to James Kelly’s house, which happened to be the base from where the dealers operated, and he lost his temper when Morgan told him that he didn’t have the money to pay him. Greene strangled Morgan and killed him. Everything escalated so quickly that James couldn’t decipher what had happened. Julivia came out from the washroom, and she too was shocked to see what had happened. Greene threatened all of them into not saying a word to the police. They were scared of the man, and so for the longest time they didn’t say a word to Rains and her team. It was surprising that the man who was a dreaded drug dealer (Jersey) didn’t have anything to do with the murder, but the one who proclaimed himself to be Morgan’s best friend was behind the act. After killing Morgan, Easy Greene used Julivia’s truck to dispose of the body. He cleaned it later, believing that the police wouldn’t find any evidence to link him to the murder. But the police not only found evidence to prove that Greene was guilty, but also, around 6 months later, they were able to locate where Morgan’s dead body was dumped.
Where is Eric “Easy” Greene now?
Eric “Easy” Greene was found guilty of murdering Morgan Duncan in July 2025, and he was sentenced to 57 years in prison. Currently, Greene is serving his prison sentence in the South Carolina Department of Corrections. The court acquitted Julivia Waller, aka Sunshine, on all charges since the prosecution wasn’t able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she was a co-conspirator in the act. Morgan’s mother, LaTanza, believed her son, who suffered from schizophrenia, was preyed upon. She said that Greene was an extremely shrewd man, and he knew that he could use Morgan for his purpose. LaTanza felt that Greene manipulated Morgan into consuming drugs, as otherwise Morgan was not somebody who could get into such stuff. What baffled me was that for such a petty amount, a young boy, who had such a beautiful life ahead of him, lost everything. The damage done was irreparable, and Rains knew that no matter what she told her grieving mother, she wouldn’t be able to make her feel better. That was why finding Morgan’s body was of utmost importance because Rains wanted LaTane to get some closure and at least find solace in having a proper funeral for her boy.
