Mobland: Is Richie Dead? Did Maeve Know About The Rat?

Published

Richie’s rivalry with his arch-nemeses, the Harringans, escalated to a totally different level after his only son, Tommy, went missing. The thing is, initially, at the beginning of the season, Richie literally had no clue that Conrad’s youngest heir, Eddie, was connected to his son’s disappearance, yet he pinned the entire blame on the Harringans because he knew that they were trying to get in on the fentanyl trade, which had been in his purview. [Spoiler Alert] Mobland’s ending revealed the Harringans’ lawyer, O’Hara Delaney, was working for Richie and feeding him information for the past nine months. This could suggest that Maeve was right when she suspected that there was a mole in the family, but got the name wrong, because of which Archie died a futile death. In the ninth episode, Richie told Tattersall that he and Maeve had been talking to each other for a long time, and maybe it was through their conversation that Maeve suspected that Richie knew more about the Harringans than anyone else, thereby suggesting that they might have had a leak in the family. Furthermore, she knew that Conrad and his men were playing it too safe, which was why she manipulated the young lad, Eddie, into killing Tommy so she could start a war, or at least get Conrad and his men working. Well, whatever the case might be, Harry finally figured out that O’Hara was the rat and therefore finally confronted her in the Mobland season 1 finale, giving her a chance to redeem herself. I mean, that was a bluff, but yes, O’Hara took the bait and tried to double-cross Richie so she could once again gain Harry’s trust. Unfortunately, that ship had long sailed away. Here, I am guessing it was Freddie Shaw, one of Richie’s men, who told Harry that his boss had been visiting their lawyer’s office quite frequently, and privately insinuated that O’Hara was the mole all along. However, it wasn’t O’Hara who told Richie about Archie or where his dead body was buried. Nor did she tell Richie about the Antwerp deal. That was all Maeve’s doing. She wanted to make Harry and Conrad realize that one of their own was betraying them under their nose and meeting with their public in broad daylight, and they literally had no idea about it. It seemed like Harringans had become too relaxed which was why Maeve needed to wake them up from their slumber.

So, in Mobland’s ending, O’Hara tried to help Harry so they could close the fentanyl deal with Jaime. Harry knew that, at this point, Richie wasn’t just a rival but also a father whose son was butchered and cut into pieces and whose wife was blown up right in front of his house. A grieving father and a husband could have done anything and gone to any length to exact his revenge, which was the only reason why Harry wanted to take out Richie before he could do any fatal damage to the family. With O’Hara’s help, he set up Richie to send all his men outside to kill his enemies, making himself vulnerable and defenseless. And as soon as all of Richie’s thugs left the Sinful Monkey, Harry and Kevin walked into the pub and fired multiple shots at Richie, killing him on the spot. Before his death, Richie did try to defend himself and took cover behind O’Hara, believing the Harringans wouldn’t shoot their own lawyer, considering she’d switched sides again, but he was wrong. For Harry, O’Hara was just a means to an end, and once Richie was dead, he had no use for a traitor, because a person who had betrayed not once, but twice, could definitely do it a third time.

I think with Richie Stevenson out of the picture, the mob land is going to stay pretty calm until a new rival steps up to shake up the peace. As of now we are not sure if Richie has any relatives left. Most of the family or the men he met suffered tragic fates in the end, so it’s likely that in the next season, the show is going to introduce a new opposing force for the Harringans. I know Tattersall, who was working closely with Richie to break the Harringans, will definitely come after Harry and Kevin, especially after Harry’s men killed Richie’s men at the safe house and later ambushed Richie at the club, but no matter how evil Tattersall is, he’s still bound by law. And yes, there’s Kat McAllister, who is already preparing Seraphina to plan a coup against her family to take over the empire, but that’s just some internal politics, and the show will definitely need a new mob lord to stand against the organized crime family. Well, we will find out soon enough, but for the time being, it’s peaceful in the mob land with Kevin and Harry taking over the reins, while Conrad is enjoying his new lordship in prison.
