MobLand has been quite the ride. It hit the ground running with the murder of Tommy, followed it up with the explosive death of Vron, and then, to kind of balance the scales, it gave us Brendan getting split in two with a chainsaw. Amidst all these gory moments, we got to witness some dirty, dirty politics being played by the Harrigans in order to put Richie out of business. But, slowly and steadily, it became evident that the Harrigans’ most trusted player, Harry, was actually making moves to take over their kingdom. While there were hints throughout the show that Harry’s intentions were dubious, it was the penultimate episode that revealed that he was in cahoots with Kat. Maybe their plan would’ve involved some murder and mayhem, but as soon as Harry saw that Alice, on Tattersall’s orders, was there to have Conrad and Maeve arrested under the false allegation that they had killed officers Fisk and Mukasa, he allowed that to play out. With the two senior Harrigans in detention, Harry was free to do as he pleased. Since the show has been pretty unpredictable, it’s impossible to say what’s actually going to happen in episode 10 of MobLand. Yet, my job is to speculate, so that’s what I’m going to do.
Spoiler Alert
Harry and Kat’s Partnership
I think the finale of MobLand is going to shine some light on the true nature of Harry and Kat’s relationship. Harry said that, 2 years prior to the events of the show, Kat had contacted him for some reason. He said that he hadn’t paid any attention to her at the moment and just kept her name at the back of his mind so that if he needed to get out of a pickle, he’d know who to get in touch with. Now, we saw that happen as Harry called up Kat only when he had run out of options and he required her help to save the Harrigan siblings. But what if that first conversation between Harry and Kat, the one that happened 2 years ago, was when the seeds of Harry’s betrayal were sown? What if Kat made him an offer he couldn’t refuse? What if Harry came to the realization that his career as a fixer had reached its peak and it was time for him to ascend to the throne, especially since the Harrigans were doing a poor job of ruling their kingdom?
I have a feeling that the deal between Harry and Kat was that Harry would have to slowly push the Harrigans to the brink, and once they were ready to be pushed over the edge, Kat would swoop in to help. Maybe that process took longer than expected, because nobody was exactly starting a ruckus, which is why Kat needed to send Donnie to give Harry a reminder of their arrangement. However, as soon as Maeve got the ball rolling, Harry knew that it was his time to shine. I think the Antwerp situation was a little out of left field. Harry probably wanted to wait a little longer before contacting Kat and telling her to help him take over London. That said, he saw that as a blessing in disguise, as it allowed him to fast-track the Harrigans’ downfall. Once we are caught up with Harry and Kat’s original deal, I suppose we’ll get a good idea of what they’re planning to do in the future. Harry told O’Hara to meet him at the shipping yard at 10 A.M., and his meeting with Kat will be at 5 P.M. So, between these 7 hours, I suppose Harry will give O’Hara a good idea of what he has in store so that she can argue on his behalf when he’ll need to share some of the Harrigans’ properties and businesses with Kat in order to facilitate his coronation. They’ll need to act fast though, because Richie is cooking something up with Tattersall, Conrad, and Maeve.
Tattersall’s Deal With Conrad
Look, I want Conrad and Maeve to have the most horrible deaths in television history because of the stuff they have said and the things they have done so far. But given how these characters are being played by Pierce Brosnan and Dame Helen Mirren, I don’t think they are going to exit the stage so quickly. I think they are here to stay here for a while. Yes, they got arrested at the end of episode 9 of MobLand, and Tattersall promised Richie that he is going to finish them off in whatever holding cell they’re being kept in. However, something about the way Tattersall said that he’ll “take care” of the Harrigans, instead of letting Richie have his revenge, makes me think that he’s actually going to betray Richie and strike some kind of a deal with Conrad and Maeve. I suppose he is making some money by giving immunity to Richie, but since the Harrigans are probably a bit richer than him and way more desperate, it’ll be easier for Tattersall to force them into some kind of arrangement in exchange for their freedom. If that’s something that actually happens in the finale, it’s going to be quite upsetting. At the same time, it’ll make for fertile ground for some more drama.
For starters, it’ll allow Conrad and Maeve to return to the Cotswolds and find Harry sitting on the throne and handling the business with Kat and Jaime as his partners. That’s going to be a gut punch. In order to get back at Harry, maybe the old-timers are going to try and get Tattersall to take down Harry. Is Tattersall going to get Conrad and Richie to join hands, albeit temporarily, thereby setting the stage for an old guard versus new guard battle? Maybe. Will Tattersall help the Harrigan couple kill Richie and help them take over his businesses so that they at least have something to work with while going toe-to-toe with Harry? It’s possible. Or is Tattersall going to stay true to his word and put Conrad and Maeve six feet into the ground? I am certainly hoping that that happens, because I truly despise those two characters. I mean, after that phone call where the Harrigans took turns to mock Richie, it got my blood boiling. So, yeah, I want them gone. In case you are worried the star power of the show is going to go down with their death, don’t worry, because Guy Ritchie and the rest of the production team probably have a lot of A-list actors on speed dial. And after the success of this season, they’ll certainly be raring to join the show in the second season.
Bella’s Sting Operation
Bella’s whole sting operation subplot seems really random in comparison to everything that’s happening in the show, and I am hoping that the finale will give some proper explanation about the point of her character arc. I have racked my brain a lot to figure out where this is all going, and the best theory I could come up with is that Bella is doing all this to gain some kind of power so that she can give the Harrigans the punishment they deserve. Based on Kevin’s version of Bella’s backstory, she became a part of Conrad’s harem to achieve some sort of prominence. Why would the daughter of Lord Pennock, a bureaucrat, try to take this route to get somewhere?
Well, based on Bella and Pennock’s dynamic, I have a feeling that the latter forced her to become Conrad’s girlfriend so that he could climb the ladder of bureaucracy. Eventually, she became pregnant with Conrad’s child (who is apparently Eddie), and, instead of being crowned as the next queen of London’s crime world, she was relegated to the position of Kevin’s wife. Now, she probably senses that the Harrigans as well as her own father are susceptible to deception. So, with the help of Antoine, she is probably about to put Pennock in a vulnerable situation and then blackmail him, with the sting video, into using his bureaucratic powers to bring down the empire of the Harrigans. There’s a distinct possibility that, by the time Bella’s plan bears fruit, Harry would’ve already taken over the Harrigans’ businesses, thereby rendering Bella’s struggle and sacrifices meaningless. In that case, is she going to join hands with Harry, or turn against him for ruining her revenge saga? I don’t know. By the way, there’s a good chance that the sting operation that Bella is conducting with Antoine won’t be addressed at all in the season finale, and it’s being reserved for the next season (if that gets greenlit by Paramount).
Kevin’s Return To The Fore
Despite being so central to the Harrigan household, don’t you think Kevin has been sidelined quite a bit? And Paddy Considine is one of the finest actors working in the entertainment industry, you can literally see him putting his heart and soul into his performance as Kevin. But he hasn’t really done anything to impact the main plotline, because he has been so busy dealing with the trauma inflicted upon him by Rusby. He has probably spent most of his life trying to bury that fact, while also coming to terms with the notion that Eddie isn’t his son, and that must’ve done a number on his mental health. Now that he has dealt with Rusby, I see him doing something explosive in the finale. Given how much I hate Eddie, I am putting my money on Kevin killing him. That’s going to be awesome for a number of reasons.
I think that a major chunk of viewers are still under the impression that when Maeve said “your other brother” to Kevin, she was referring to Harry. So, if Kevin kills Eddie, they’re going to think he has killed his own son because he was fed up with his evil shenanigans. That’s when it’s going to be revealed that he hasn’t killed his son, but Conrad’s, and that’ll be a proper shocker. Or, Kevin is going to either kill Harry or hurt him pretty badly for betraying Conrad, and then he is going to sit on the proverbial throne himself. I feel that’ll be quite fitting because, to be honest. I think Harry has been sleeping with Bella behind his back. Kevin knows that, but he doesn’t want to accept it, because Harry is his best mate. That said, when he sees what he has done to the Harrigan kingdom, he is going to snap and turn into Harry’s worst enemy. That’ll also be quite surprising, because Kevin has been so inert throughout the show. All his anger and frustration have been there on the surface. He let a bit of it out on Rusby, and maybe he’ll unload the rest in the finale. Anyway, those are my thoughts on what’s going to happen in MobLand episode 10.
