MobLand: Is Eddie Conrad’s Son? Did Kevin Kill Alan Rusby?

Published

The earlier episodes of Mobland revealed that Kevin, the second eldest son of the Harrigan family, met Harry Da Souza, his best friend and the family’s most loyal fixer, in Newgate prison. However, those 3 years in prison turned into a complete nightmare when a prison officer, Alan Rusby and his mates, raped and abused young Kevin every week for two years, giving him physical and mental scars from which he never really recovered. In these 20-25 years, Kevin totally blanked out the incident, but it all came flooding back when Harry mentioned Rusby’s name. I guess, the attack was still deeply engraved in his consciousness, and over the years had been affecting his married life, which Kevin never acknowledged. The show didn’t mention it, but I believe Kevin and his wife, Bella, didn’t have any kind of intimacy between them, which is the reason many of us believe that Eddie isn’t Kevin’s son.

Back in the day, Bella had an affair with Conrad, and Kevin suspected his old man got his wife pregnant. However, he loved Bella too much to question her loyalty, which could be the reason why he never tried not to bring up the subject of Eddie’s parentage, because he knew such a confrontation will only make things messier. But then entered Maeve, who not only reminded Kevin of his wife’s infidelity but also his infertility. Here, Maeve didn’t really take any names, but Kevin’s reaction gave it all up. It wasn’t a mere coincidence that the moment Maeve brings up the topic of Kevin’s infertility, the man loses his mind and goes straight to confront his rapist Alan Rusby.

Kevin was likely looking for answers or just wanted to get those memories out of his system, which was why he pretended to be an Uber driver and gave Rusby a lift to his dead sister’s house, where he lived alone. Kevin made an excuse to enter the house, and as soon as he came out of the loo, he straight up asked the retired guard if he recognized him. Well, it seemed like Kevin wasn’t his only victim, or maybe Rusby was telling the truth when he told him that he’d been having gaps in his memory due to old age. When Kevin left his father’s house, he had blood on his mind, and he wanted to empty the entire magazine into his perpetrator body, but he had a change of heart when he saw an old and feeble man in front of him begging for his life. Kevin couldn’t do it. He let Rusby go, because he didn’t want to become a psychotic murderer like his father. At this point, Kevin felt so helpless that he broke down and started howling like a kid. He wanted to get over his past trauma but he didn’t know how. It’s likely that Kevin never got any help or therapy for these haunting memories. He didn’t even dare discuss the incident with anyone, not even Harry, and sharing his issues with his misogynistic father was never an option. All his life, Kevin had consciously made sure that he didn’t end up becoming his father or his mother, someone who killed people for fun. Hence, Kevin wanted Rusby to get out of his sight, and it would have been better if the old man had just left the house, but unfortunately, he didn’t. Rusby, who had recently found God, thought he could fix things with an apology and by talking things out, and therefore made the worst mistake of his life by bringing up the wrong question at the wrong time. He asked Kevin, “do you have children?” and that was the moment all hell broke loose. Kevin didn’t think for a moment before pulling the trigger and putting a bullet in Rusby’s head.

You see, Rusby’s death was quite similar to Archie’s murder in the first episode. In both cases, it was Maeve who riled up these men with her vile words to the point that they no longer had control over their own impulses. Kevin shot Rusby because he asked him about his children, which was something Maeve had taunted Kevin about earlier, and it was pretty obvious that Kevin wanted to do the same thing to his vicious mother and father but couldn’t, because they were still his parents. And let me make this clear, Kevin isn’t a psychotic killer like his mother, father and Eddie. I am quite certain that he will realize the mistake he’s made by shooting Rusby in the heat of the moment, but what’s done is done, so in order to have some penance for his mistake, he’s going to look after Rusby’s wife, Joanne, who’s been admitted to an old age nursing home, and is likely suffering from dementia. And as far as Rusby’s corpse is concerned, well, it’s obvious that Kevin will give his prison mate a call to come rescue him as always.
