The ending of My Life With The Walter Boys season 2 is giving me major The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 episode 8 flashbacks, and that was literally yesterday. What’s going on on TV right now? Honestly, My Life With The Walter Boys is like a mashup of TSITP and XO, Kitty, but also it makes sense that every female teenage main lead fantasy is to have as many people fall for you as possible, even if they are brothers, whose lives you might ruin in the process of picking between them. What I appreciate about this show is that, despite the crazy love triangle, there’s a lot of other drama as well. School isn’t just a thing that exists in the background; plus there’s adult drama with the oldest kid and the parents, and there’s just a lot more to Jackie than just boy trouble. Having said that, though, the ending of the second season literally feels like a recycled version of the first season to keep us waiting for season 3, ugh. Anyway, with that said, let’s jump straight into everything that went down in season 2’s ending.
Spoiler Alert
Is Cole Going To College?
Every teen drama needs a brooding bad boy who is actually a gem on the inside. I love how the show calls out Jackie’s character for wanting to “improve” Cole. To be fair, Jackie’s the perfect kind of character who would do such a thing. She’s very well thought out because she’s an organized girl who wants to have everything under control, so it would only make sense she’d want to control the kind of guy she’s looking to be in love with, too. Okay, but I digress. This is about Cole. In the final episode, Cole finds himself stepping up as head coach when the coach’s wife goes into labor during a crucial match. Dylan confronts his father and tells him he’s not going to play since he got suspended. In truth, I think he’s secretly happy on the inside because he didn’t want to pursue football. It’s Dylan, who was almost a villain this season, especially for Cole, who ends up encouraging him not to step down and make the most of this opportunity. Both of them have let the Bighorns down before, so this time around, they need to fix it, and for now, only Cole can do it.
Cole manages to coach the team to a victory, and then later even gets a decent score on the SATs. He already nailed the college interview with the broken car situation, all thanks to Jackie being there, so he’s got everything set for him. I think this means Cole will be away from home for a bit, and Jackie will get the chance to clear her mind out, but we’ll have to see. I do hope things work out and Cole does manage to go to college, though, considering everything else that’s going on. Like Katherine, what do you mean you’re okay with having more people over?
Are Danny and Erin okay?
Sometimes we forget how young these characters are, but Danny and Erin’s romance is quite a sweet one despite the few speed bumps. Danny is eager to be a part of Erin’s life, not just right now but in the future too. This scares him a little bit, so he clings to her as much as possible. However, this backfires, because Erin’s an independent woman with her own plans. She can’t just suddenly switch things up because she found Danny in high school. She’s got herself to worry about, and I love that it takes time for her to go back to Danny. But, I’m also happy that they get back together, because they’re quite adorable, and I think they have a long way to go, despite the family history.
What Happens With Will?
Will’s completely shattered because of the fact that his parents basically ignored everything he had in mind to start a winery on the ranch. He was so excited about his little plan, and he thought he had everything under control, but he never did. This rightfully upsets him, but it also means that he gets some free time on his hands. Before Hayley went off to Chile, she told Will to come with her, but he said he had too much work because of the ranch, and he believes that’s his home. However, Hayley returns from her trip early (why do I feel like she’s pregnant?) and also tells him that maybe they’re meant to be travelling together to remote farms and having new experiences. Technically, they’re only 25 and have their whole lives ahead of them. But the ending of the season is definitely going to change things up a little bit, and might put the responsibilities on Will yet again, anyway.
Is Alex A Bronc Rider?
After going to the rodeo camp, Alex returns, a completely new person, with a new personality and all. The part I don’t understand is how his attitude changes so quickly because, at first, when he returns, he’s basically Cole (or you could say cold), but then suddenly he’s nice to everybody and goes back to his old ways without any explanation. Sure, he’s a cool guy now, and that definitely comes from wanting to be a little more like Cole because he could sense the chemistry between his brother and Jackie right from the start. But at least the boy spends the entirety of this season focused on one passion, and that’s becoming a bronc rider. But wasn’t Alex the smart kid who was definitely going to college? Guess it’s good to see him doing something else, even if that means Cole is reminded that he’s a golden child and nobody’s going to love Cole because of it (not true though).
I’m glad the Blake and Alex situation didn’t work out because the age gap is a little bit weird, considering she’s 18. She’s still an excellent coach, and the rodeo is in her family, so she’s able to bring Alex onto her dad’s radar, which means he wins a sponsorship, which is perfect for him. But it would involve travelling the country and not being at home basically ever. This would potentially mean more time for Jackie and Cole together and less for Alex and Jackie?
What Happens With Kiley?
The trouble here is that Kiley and Alex were best friends, but she was always in love with him until he said she was like a dude when he was super drunk. Alex and Kiley spend barely any time together this season, which is probably for the best, because it allows Kiley to look in other directions and give other people a chance. I think she and Dylan are quite sweet, and Kiley genuinely pushes him to be a better person. The thing I don’t understand is why Alex gives them a look; it’s not the “oh, she can’t choose Dylan, he’s not the right guy for her” kind of look, but more like “that should be me,” you know? But of course, for the time being, Alex is still mad about Jackie, despite knowing his brother is mad about her too. Do I really have to choose a brother again? UGH. Kiley’s grandmother’s situation is a secret that she and Alex share, though, so I wonder if it’ll become something bigger later.
Are Nathan and Skylar back together?
The hard truth is that Nathan and Skylar are not back together; however, they do say “I love you” to each other. The whole Zach situation was just such a mess, because it turns out the whole reason he was chasing after Nathan was to take revenge on Syklar for dumping him. To make matters worse, he changed Nathan completely, and Nathan literally cheated on Skylar to be with Zach and then learned that he didn’t even want him in the first place; he wanted to be back with Skylar. In the real world, I don’t think anyone would root for Skylar and Nathan to get back together, but since this is a show, it’s likely it’ll happen.
Does Jackie Choose A Walter Boy?
Jackie has grown a lot this season, except for in the love department. Jackie organizes a formal for Silver Falls High because of budget cuts. She doesn’t become student council president, which in my opinion is a good thing because she needs just a little more time before she can take on such a big responsibility. Jackie ends up helping with the college fair anyway, and it’s a huge success, which wins her an honorary award at the Silver Falls annual festival with sparkling lights. At this point, Jackie has to know she shouldn’t be keeping secrets, but not only is she hiding the fact that she and Alex are actively dating, she’s also not telling Alex that she’s been helping Cole with studies, etc. The girl needs to know that this is in no way sustainable. She’s so caught up in “boy world” that she doesn’t even realize Grace has been struggling because her parents might be getting a divorce. But hey, at least Jackie’s got her driver’s license.
In My Life With The Walter Boys season 2’s ending, Cole admits to Jackie that he saw her and Alex at Richard’s house, and that’s why he’d grown distant in the last few days. He tells her that he gave her space, because that’s what she wanted, but he can’t understand why she can be with Alex and not him. He tells her that he loves her, and she says it back out of compulsion (at least that’s what it sounded like). But then he asks her why she can’t be with him, and she says she loses control when she’s with Cole, and as we know, Jackie hates that feeling. She’s had her entire life taken away from her, and things had finally calmed down and were going smoothly before Cole decided to confess. Truth be told, she shouldn’t have gotten back with Alex so soon after coming back, but sometimes hormones, you know? She says, “I love you” back, but she doesn’t know what she’ll do if she loses control, but she already has because Alex has heard the entire conversation, and he doesn’t even look affected when he asks her if she loves Cole. But the whole thing is shockingly interrupted by Will, who has learned that something’s happened to their dad and has brought an ambulance with him. I think George might’ve been too stressed, and this might’ve caused some heart condition. When one of the kids said George had been out since the afternoon, I knew this was coming. This changes everything for the family, and I do hope the winery plan comes through, that this is just a small roadblock, and George will be okay. However, if you ask me, I think the endgame is Cole, and this is going to be a really messy situation.
