It’s nice to know that My Life With The Walter Boys has already been renewed for a third season, and that it went into production before the 2nd season even premiered. We do appreciate some confidence around here. If you’re here, you already know that the show is about a young girl who finds herself in a house full of boys after she lost her family in a tragic accident. Jackie is a young, ambitious girl in high school who lived her whole life in New York until she was sent off to a small town in Colorado because her mom wanted her to live with her best friend’s family. Jackie’s big city dreams are suddenly crushed, and she’s got to change her entire life to fit in with this ranch family. Will she be able to handle it? Or will she get stuck in a muddy mess of farm animals and love triangles? Well, we already know it’s a bit of the latter, but will this continue in season 3? You know it.
Spoiler Alert
The selling point of a teen drama involving two brothers in a love triangle (insert Vampire Diaries, The Summer I Turned Pretty, etc.) is the confusion and the drama that comes with being confused between two entirely different kinds of people. The same thing applies to the Walter boys. Here we have good and kind Alex, who has a jock transformation in season 2. It’s almost as if he wants to be more like Cole, some would say, no? But somehow, despite all the drama that Jackie’s been through, she decides to get with Alex and keep it a secret throughout season 2. This is her distraction from Cole, though, and that’s where the problems all begin. At the end of the second season, Cole and Jackie confess their love for each other, but Alex overhears the whole thing. Can I just say Cole should’ve seen the guy walk out of the house? Also, they should’ve realized a few steps from the front porch was not the ideal spot for this conversation, but anyway, that’s out of the way now, so what can we expect next?
George Comes First
The ending of season 2 leaves us with a terrifying plot twist where George, the patriarch of the Walter family, needs an ambulance. All we know is that Will went out to look for him and came back with an ambulance, which means it’s serious. I would hope it’s nothing he can’t recover from, especially because George is such an important part of the story, and his involvement with Jackie and Richard is pretty major too, though initially it might’ve felt like just a Katherine thing. We know George has been really stressed out with the whole ranch situation, but he found a solution, albeit one that left Will hanging. Remember when Will was telling Hayley that it was his dad who pulled the rug from under his feet? Well, I think that was foreshadowing this particular ending for the season, because it means Will wasn’t able to properly talk to his dad about the ranch, and nobody got the closure they needed.
Season 3 will focus on George’s recovery, and it’s possible that Will will take over the ranch work again, even if it’s according to George’s plans. I don’t think he will die (or I really hope he won’t), because this is not that kind of show; we haven’t even really seen Jackie grieve her parents, because the show is trying to be more fluff and rugged-boy-centered than about healing your wounds, which is fine. Jackie’s already been working really hard to fit in the household, and now will be her time to shine as a mentor for some of the younger kids, mainly Parker. Katherine’s going to need all the help that she can get, and Jackie’s organized self, I can imagine, will be really helpful at this time. On a side note, I think Hayley might be pregnant or that may happen soon, as if things aren’t hard enough for them already.
The Love Triangle Continues
Yes, I know, how annoying, but everything’s going to be on hold until George is better. However, when people are upset, their emotions are heightened, and it’s possible that the boys will have a massive fight over Jackie, which she won’t appreciate at all, and will leave her hating them both for the time being again (this is giving Steven being in an accident flashbacks). But ultimately, this show’s sole focus is Jackie’s life with the Walter boys, which means she will be stuck choosing between them yet again, and that will likely take up a big chunk of the third season, yet again. However, I’m hoping to see a time jump because half these kids are meant to be going off to college, so like, make that happen.
Danny and Erin will make it work
Danny and Erin’s shaky love story has been fun to watch because, at the end of the day, it’s actually really sweet. However, Danny making decisions for Erin was a bit meh, and just because you see a future with someone, doesn’t mean you can go around making plans for them; that’s just not how life works. I think Danny’s learned his lesson, though, and while Erin isn’t going to leave him that easily, she knows her boundaries, and it’s fantastic. I really like this couple, and I’d love to see more of them, especially navigating this college situation.
Nathan and Skylar May Get Back Together
In truth, Natan did Skylar dirty, so I don’t think they should get back together. It’ll be a really messy situation, but it would also allow Nathan to think he can get away with cheating. Also, this whole Zach thing was just unnecessary. I mean, why this random revenge plot? And Nathan doesn’t even seem to be too beat up about it; he was used, and he broke off his nice relationship for a dude like Zach. I think they need time apart, and if then they’re still interested in each other, then sure.
Jackie Will Become President
After everything Jackie’s done for the school and the town, she’s already been recognized as a helpful citizen, but with Erin vouching for her, she’s definitely going to become student council president and will have something to take her mind off things. The one thing Jackie’s really good at is managing her schoolwork despite any hardships thrown her way. It’s her coping mechanism, and I hope it helps her go to her dream school, Princeton, and we get to see her grow up into the woman she hopes to be. I’d like to see a businesswoman Jackie, soon enough. At the end of the day, the makers of the show want to keep it going long term, which means it’s going to involve a lot more family drama. The show is slow-paced and will drag out as many subplots as it can. But ultimately, who do you think Jackie’s endgame is? I know I’m thinking of Cole because in these kinds of shows, passion wins over all else. What do you expect from season 3 of My Life With The Walter Boys?
