In the 5th episode of Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, Sonja decided to trust Zack and set him free. Since Kevin, Dan, and Amy were convinced that Zack was the real killer, they got angsty and went their separate ways, probably hoping that they’d be able to look out for themselves on their own. Dan and Amy were seemingly stabbed to death, which led to a standoff between Zack, Sonja, and Kevin. After a brief argument, Zack and Sonja agreed to go up to the ELT together in the hopes of flagging down the helicopter from Los Trios that had been circling the area, while Kevin hung back at the crash site. After hearing a loud gunshot, Zack and Sonja returned to the spot where Dan and Amy had died only to find that Kevin had been killed and his face had been eaten up by the barracudas after he was submerged in the barracuda-infested pond face-first. After resting up in the crashed plane, Zack and Sonja resumed their trek to the spot where the ELT was. However, when they got to the top, the masked killer showed up and killed Sonja and Zack, who even fell off the cliff he was on. At long last, the 6th episode has revealed the identity of the killer. So, let’s talk about it.
Spoiler Alert
Sanchez Wants To Search For The 10th Passenger
Episode 6 of Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue introduces us to Dr. Sofia Guijarro, and we learn that she has a lovely relationship with her partner and she is a pathologist in Monterrey City. Of course, this comes into play later, but before we learn of her role in this mess, we see Guzman, Sanchez, and three other men doing a sweep of the forest to look for the survivors. They find the ELT, but not much else. They go down to the crash site, and after a thorough inspection of the site, Sanchez comes to the conclusion that the accident wasn’t that killed the passengers; someone else did, or else nine bodies wouldn’t have been put side-by-side in a pit like that. Instead of searching for this tenth survivor, they bag and tag the bodies and make their way back to Los Trios. After delivering the bodies, Sanchez urges Vega to let him go back to the crash site and find the whereabouts of the missing person. Vega thinks it’s a waste of time and money, but after some words of protest from Lopez and Guzman, Vega greenlights the mission to return to the forest and see what’s up with the tenth passenger.
Cora Kills Doctor Guijarro
Back in Monterrey, Revueltas informs Claire that she has permission to enter Los Trios. Even though Claire is unsure if Zack has been found, she begins her journey to the titular morgue in the tiniest car in all of Mexico. Guijarro also starts making her way to Los Trios after being asked to come down there by Vega. Emilio overhears the conversation and updates Cora on this development. I don’t know if Cora and Emilio had a concrete plan to infiltrate the military morgue and get the killer out of there. They were probably going to wing it anyway. But after learning that a female pathologist is on the way, Cora realizes that she can take Guijarro’s place and walk into the heavily guarded place without a hitch. And, well, that’s what Cora and Emilio do. Now, the sad part here is that Guijarro could’ve avoided dying at the hands of Cora if she had stopped to help Claire when her car had broken down. Claire would’ve identified Cora and Emilio from afar and done something to thwart those two. Or maybe if Guijarro offered Claire a ride, both of them would’ve been killed by Cora and Emilion. So, you can say that Claire survived because she didn’t hitch a ride with Guijarro. Anyway, while the switcheroo between Cora and Guijarro happens, we find out that another diabolical identity theft has happened.
Kevin Is The Mystery Killer
Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue finally reveals that Kevin is the mystery killer. He is the one who has been communicating with Cora, manipulating the passengers, and then taking their lives one by one. When Zack and Sonja went up the hill after Dan and Amy’s deaths, thinking that they had left Kevin to his devices, Kevin swapped places with Dan and got the barracudas to gnaw off Dan’s face, thereby making Zack and Sonja think that Kevin had died. After killing Sonja and throwing Zack off the cliff by shooting at him, Kevin then placed the drugs inside all the dead bodies (which is something that I had predicted in episode 3). As explained later by Kevin, he threw the discarded bullet from Lisa’s gun into the fire, and since it exploded, that got Zack and Sonja to think that someone who wasn’t on the passenger list was the mystery killer, not Kevin.
Then, Kevin himself pretended to be a dead body by consuming a bunch of Travis’ beta blockers; hence, the soldiers couldn’t find a pulse when they came across his “corpse” and put him alongside the rest of the bodies. Sanchez, Guzman, and the three other guys with them clearly didn’t check if the bodies had incisions (through which the drugs had been stuffed into the dead bodies) or anything strange about them. Therefore, they have unintentionally done the heavy lifting for Kevin and Cora, and now all they have to do is get the drugs out of the morgue and back to Aero Alux. When Cora enters the morgue with Lopez, Kevin knocks him out, extracts the drugs, sets the morgue on fire, and then exits the military base with Cora and Emilio while shooting everyone who comes in their way. Claire, who has just reached Los Trios, is shocked to see all this, and in all that chaos she fails to identify Cora and Emilio.
Zack Is Alive
While the survivors of this attack recuperate, the focus of the episode shifts to Sanchez, Guzman, and their team, who are searching for the tenth passenger. This is when it’s revealed that Zack is actually alive. Yeah, the only thing that’s more preposterous than everything that Kevin has done is the fact that Zack is still alive. Someone in the comments of last week’s article did say that Zack could’ve survived by falling onto a ledge sticking out of the cliff, and I sort of agreed with that prediction because it happens in movies a lot. But seeing him at what looks like the bottom of that cliff, that too in the bushes, while still having the ability to move around and signal the helicopter by reflecting the sunlight off his sunglasses… it’s a bit much, in my opinion.
By the way, a lot of people had commented in last week’s article that somebody at IMDb had revealed the identity of the killer by showing that Eric McCormack (Kevin) is in 6 episodes, and the rest of the passengers are not. Well, they’ve apparently fooled everyone by crediting David Ajala (Zack) in 5 episodes to maintain the ruse that he died in episode 5, whereas the reality is that he is in all 6 episodes. So, everyone who was asking for the laying off of someone from IMDb or MGM+ for this “mistake” should immediately apologize and accept that they can’t outplay the players.
Zack Almost Catches Kevin
Claire and Zack are reunited in a hospital in Monterrey, thanks to Sanchez and Guzman’s decision to go back for him. Frank and David also arrive at the hospital and inform the couple that Aero Alux is just a front, and Cora and Kevin (which is probably not even his real name) are working with the Mexican cartel and the Miami mafia. David wants a detailed description of everything that happened at the crash site, but Zack puts that conversation on the backburner and instead urges everyone to rush to Aero Alux because he knows that Cora and Kevin haven’t left the country yet. Technically, Kevin doesn’t need to show any kind of urgency because he thinks he has gotten away with it all. He doesn’t know that Zack is still alive, that Claire (who has met Cora and Emilio) is Zack’s wife, and that both of them have exchanged information and come to the conclusion that Kevin and Cora are drug peddlers.
So, Kevin is at Cora’s residence, just chilling with her (if you know what I mean), and taking his own sweet time explaining to Cora how he fooled everyone. Zack, Claire, and Frank meet up with Revueltas and his men and head over to Aero Alux. They are a little late, though, because Kevin has already killed Cora for allegedly colluding with Octavio (the pilot). He has sent Emilio away with some cash and drugs. And he has boarded a plane and is about to take off. In a desperate bid to stop Kevin, Zack rushes towards that plane and begins firing at it. For a moment, it seems like Kevin has walked away (or flown away) out of this whole ordeal unscathed yet again. However, as the plane goes dead right when he is flying over some dense jungle, Kevin realizes that some of Zack’s bullets have hit the fuel tank, and he is about to be stranded in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of drugs one more time. A real full circle moment right there!
