No One Saw Us Leave, adapted from the novel written by Tamara Trottner, introduced us to a range of characters whose lives were deeply intertwined and often in conflict with one another. Their actions had a profound effect on each other’s destinies, and I believe it was their egos that ultimately led to the chaos that unfolded. So, let’s take a closer look at these characters and uncover what really happened in their lives.
Spoiler Alert
Emiliano Zurita as Leo
Leo was an architect by profession, and in his personal life, he was somebody who was never given the opportunity to exercise his own will. His father, Samuel, told him what to do, and he had to just follow his orders. I believe the biggest mistake that Leo made was to run away with his kids. He knew that his wife, Valeria, was a good mother, and that he shouldn’t have taken the kids away from her. But his actions were fueled by contempt and a deep-rooted resentment towards her. Leo, at the end, was quite magnanimous in his approach. He did something that I didn’t believe he was capable of. He set aside his ego and let his wife take custody of his kids. Yeah, he felt bad that he would never be able to see his kids again, but a part of him was also relieved that he did the right thing.
Tessa la as Valeria
Valeria was never asked who she wanted to marry. It was a different era, and the elders believed that marriage was a union of 2 families, and so it was obvious that they would have a say in it. But there was a difference between having a say and imposing their will on the two people who were getting married. Valeria and Leo’s lives were ruined by their parents. Yeah, they had their own principles, their own values, and their own traditions. But they should have known better. Valeria fell in love with another man, and she wasn’t able to hold back her feelings. She was young, and she felt something that she never had before. Taking that step became the turning point in her marriage. Things went downhill from there, and both Valeria and Leo suffered. The good part was that both of them loved their kids equally. I just felt that Valeria could have handled things better. She could have ensured that nobody got hurt in the process, but then fate had other plans. What I liked about her was that she didn’t treat her relationship with Carlos as some fling. She wanted to be with him, which was why she made that choice.
Juan Manuel Bernal as Samuel
Samuel was a dominating man, and I believe that it was his ego that ruined the lives of his grandkids. It was his plan for Leo to escape with the kids. Samuel took it upon his ego that his daughter-in-law ruined his reputation. I agree she didn’t do the right thing, but then the problem wouldn’t exist in the first place if the leaders had acted the right way. Samuel separated a mother from her kids, the worst thing he could have done. If he actually cared about the family, he would not have done that. At the end, Samuel surrendered to his circumstances. His hatred and his ego made him a different person altogether, somebody that even his wife couldn’t recognize.
Flavio Medina as Moishe
We never got to know much about Moishe, but from the looks of it, he seemed like a supportive father. He was there for his daughter, and he didn’t judge her. Moishe wanted to be with his grandkids, and he was ready to do anything to keep his daughter from suffering. He was the one who made a formal complaint to Interpol and even hired a private detective, an ex-Mossad agent, to find Leo. Moishe and Samuel were the best of friends and business partners too and never could have imagined that their relationship would turn into a rivalry. But once it did, Moishe didn’t back down, and he made sure that his daughter got her kids back.
Alexander Varela Pavlov as Isaac and Tamara
Isaac and Tamara, Leo and Valeria’s kids, were the ones who suffered the most in the entire process. The poor kids didn’t know why they were being taken away from Mexico. They missed her once they reached France, and they kept asking Leo when she would come to meet them. Though both the kids were loved by their parents, the kind of things they saw and went through must have left a deep impact on their psyche. Maybe when they grow up, they will realize how those events impacted their sensibilities.
Natasha Dupeyron as Gabriela
Gabriela didn’t have much screen time, but from what I understood, even after having issues in her marriage, the thought of separating from her husband never crossed her mind. Maybe it was because of her traditional upbringing, but she wanted to continue living with Carlos. She wasn’t happy with him; I believe their sensibilities didn’t align either, but still separating was never an option. Once she got to know that Carlos was cheating on her, she decided to take revenge on him. I fully understand it can’t have been easy to know that her husband loved another woman. No matter how bad things were between them, the revelation that he had an affair must have stung. But I still believe that Gabriela could have acted in a much better manner, not for the sake of others but just to make herself feel better. Revenge never makes one happy, and if she would have understood that fact, life would have been easier.
Mariana Di Girolamo as Raquel
Leo had a brief affair with Raquel, a woman he met in South Africa. She seemed like a really likable person, somebody who was politically active, had a strong opinion, and wanted to make a difference. I personally didn’t like how things ended between Leo and Raquel. In a parallel world, I imagine, Leo and Raquel would have connected once again and decided to be with each other.
Gustavo Bassani as Carlos
Carlos was Gabriela’s husband and Leo’s brother-in-law. He also felt caged with Gabriela’s family, who wanted him to act their way. In a way, Samuel’s dominance spoiled the life of his own son and even Carlos. Carlos found love in Valeria, and after that, he didn’t think about the consequences. But he knew that whatever might happen, he would stand with Valeria and make sure that she got all the support she wanted. Carlos seemed like a sensible man, but then again, he too, just like Valeria, could have executed everything in a better manner. He should have told Gabriela about him having an affair, but unfortunately things didn’t pan out that way.
