Olympo is a new Netflix Spanish-language show about a bunch of elite athletes at the HPC Pyrenees. The show follows Amaia, a synchronized swimmer who is eager to get an “Olympo” sponsorship. Something that only the top three athletes at the center can get. But when her best friend and fellow swimmer seems to almost transform and start doing much better than herself, Amaia realizes there’s something majorly wrong. What she first thinks is a problem with just her friend, Nuria, blows up into something much bigger: an entire organized web of cheaters. While Amaia is the protagonist of the show and often feels like the entire world is against her, there are many other main characters. Zoe is a runner who is forced to come to the HPC after having been through a traumatic experience. Zoe is immediately taken in as an “Olympo” awardee. Then there’s Roque and Cristian, best buds and the other two champions. With no one seeing her side of the story, Amaia grows flustered throughout the series until, in the end, she takes the wrong turn. At the time of writing this, there’s no news of a second season of Olympo. Of course, the show has just come out, so it’ll be some time before anything is confirmed. But by the looks of how the show ended, there’s a high probability that the show will come back for a second season. So, with that in mind, let’s explore some ideas of what might come up in the second season.
Spoiler Alert
Fatima and Charly Coming Together
You know a supervillain’s on the way when two of the baddies of the show come together at the end of a season. This leaves a massive opening for Olympo season 2. Fatima is a character who is barely seen throughout season 1 but is more often mentioned. She’s Amaia’s nemesis, but she’s only around to make her jealous. I’d be interested in seeing her actually showcasing her talents and proving to Amaia that she’s good enough, too. Fatima isn’t necessarily a bad kid, but because it’s such a competitive world, she has to get down and dirty. So far, we’ve not seen any sort of racial discrimination in “Olympo,” but I wonder if that’ll come into play in season 2. Fatima’s fall could indicate the end of her career altogether, especially after what Amaia and Nuria did; however, she might come back swinging.
Meanwhile, there’s Charly. Now, this guy feels more villainous than Fatima, in my opinion, because he’s always been on the other side. Not only does he say the wrong thing, but he also sabotages Roque’s game by stepping on his hand on purpose. It wasn’t even just to have him stop playing for a bit, this could’ve been permanent damage. But seeing Roque come back even stronger and then getting put in the hospital by him, Charly is going to be furious, and in the end, when he’s hugging Fatima, you can already tell he’s recruiting soldiers.
Zoe and the Blue Vial
In the final episode, Zoe gave the anti-d testers the vial of the drug that “Olympo” was giving them. She’s already been kicked out because she violated the contract, so this means she’s not obliged to hide anything anymore. Zoe’s also got Renata on her side, and the other “Olympo” duo. If they’re willing to testify against the organization, they could save the sporting world in Spain. Zoe’s going to play a big role in the second season, if there is one.
Amaia Might Become an Addict
The infiltration has already taken place, so it’s only a matter of time before Amaia becomes addicted to the PEDs. Now, she did faint at the end of the first season, leaving us wondering if she’s dead or if she’s suffering just like Nuria. Whatever this thing is that they’re giving the kids is clearly dangerous. It would be wild if Amaia ends up dead, but it would definitely make this show super intriguing. But, of course, she’s the protagonist, and we’ll need her to come back strong, so that’s not likely to happen.
But if she does end up waking up, she’s going to end up doping much harder than before. Plus, she’s seen the taste of success. The two combined mean that she’s going to want to keep reaching for the stars and not look back. It’s sad, because Zoe’s already exposed Hugo, but it’ll be interesting to see if he’s able to cover this up too, giving Amaia and Nuria more time to get accustomed to being superstars. However, it’ll be at the Olympics that things might end up going wrong. But that would mean the end of their careers. What do you think could happen next with Amaia?
The show is a dramatic mess of everything in the sports world. We can count on more sporty drama, but the show is also big on the steamy stuff, so we can expect a lot of sexual tension and loads of new characters being introduced for romance, well, sex. I wonder if Fatima and Charly might become a power couple. I think there’s a chance of Zoe and Renata getting together, by the way things were looking. Additionally, Cristian and Amaia will be single because they’ve picked opposite sides, so for sure, there’ll be new love interests for at least one of them. Sebas and Roque are going strong, so we’ll just have to see how that progresses. Maybe they’ll be the power couple that this school needs.
Finally, we can imagine that the HPC Pyrenees is going to be in huge trouble because all of the athletes are from there. If Zoe’s plan works, then it might get shut down, and so will Olympo. Also, I’m not exactly sure what will happen with the fact that their shady operations take place in Andorra. So the possibilities are endless, and the conflicts have only just begun. I do hope if we get a second season, it will have some better content and dive deeper into “Olympo.”
