The final episode of Palm Royal season 2 feels like a different show altogether. I mean, I know we started off with a musical number, but dang, I had no idea about Kirsten Wiig’s range, but more importantly, how the heck is Carol Burnett singing at age 92? What the actual heck? Also, her chemistry with Ricky Martin is just great, and I love the ending of the show for them, but we’ll get into that in a bit. Palm Royal is the campy comedy that everyone should be watching, though I can imagine it could be a little much for some people. The final episode definitely gives us hope for another season, but also ends in such a way that if the show doesn’t return for a 3rd season, we can feel somewhat satisfied, though I would be a little upset for sure, because I’m genuinely enjoying this show. Anyway, with that said, a whole lot went down in this season, so let’s get into the final episode.
Spoiler Alert
Why Did Norma Have Dead-People Stuff?
If you were still wondering if Norma killed all those people, then the show finally gives us a concrete answer. Episode 10 begins with flashbacks to the Dellacortes dying at a young age and Norma (well, Agnes) narrating about how every time someone died, her fortune grew, and as a “thank you,” almost, she decided to keep items from each of these dead people as keepsakes. Reminders of how she became the Norma that she is now, and what made her so rich. But also, “good fortune doesn’t protect women from the world’s condemnation,” so Norma had to do what she could to protect herself.
What Do Maxine And Evelyn Do With Jed’s Body?
Born in 1940, died in 1970, a prick was killed by a woman. In episode 10, we see Maxine panic after shooting Jed, who is aggressively choking Evelyn at the time. Evelyn is grateful to Maxine, and immediately thanks her for saving her life. Despite being completely freaked out by what she’s done, Maxine breaks out of her daze and comes up with a plan. Convenient that Jed’s an alligator sommelier, so the ladies decide to drop him off in the tank at the restaurant that Maxine had the misfortune to visit once. But, the problem is the car that they need to take, because Evelyn’s is too small, so they decide to take Norma’s Rolls Royce, but for that, they need to go to the house, and of course, the best way to do that is through the tunnels.
With the plan set, Maxine and Evelyn wrap the pig in the blanket and get to the tunnels, where they find Mary, who immediately says she did not “do it.” She then also admits that she hit her bootlegger in the head with the family orb, but he ran away, and then she heard gunshots, but she didn’t do it (she’s holding the gun at this point). Maxine and Evelyn deflect Mary, but they also realize that Jed is Mary’s bootlegger, and this sends Evelyn into a spiral of thoughts. Mainly, she tells Maxine that she knows why she cheated on Eddie. It’s because she never felt wanted by him. Everyone always called her the lucky one for bagging Eddie, and this made her undermine herself. But now, she’s over it, and she’s also realized she’s a feminist (funny how much she struggles using the word, not only because it’s clearly an insult, but also because it would put her in the same boat as Linda).
Now the duo get to the house, and Robert’s there, but so’s Tom, who’s there to visit. Tom tells Robert that there’s a recording of him and Robert from their dalliance in the FBI office, so either he goes and kills someone at 4 pm at the Shiny Sheet office, or the duo get exposed. Robert tells Tom it would be okay if they get exposed, but obviously, Tom is going to go through with the plan. Anyway, the ladies overhear this gossip, and it’ll come in handy later. They finally make it to the Rolls after a lot of here and there, oh, even meeting Rafael, Robert’s son, in the process, learning that Robert’s going to ask for custody. But right before they make it out of there, Douglas comes out looking better than before, except for an allergic reaction to aspirin, the one drug that can keep him alive for long. Anyway, he tells her that he wants to build a life with Mitzi after learning that he was going to die just a little while ago. That he can reunite with Maxine after his baby turns 18. Big mistake here, because this turns Maxine sour immediately, and she tells him that the baby is not even his before heading out.
What Happens At The Shiny Sheet?
Now, the tank plan doesn’t work out, because it’s closed, so they decide to store him in a freezer so they can attend the wedding. However, when they go to the Palm, they learn from Dinah that Perry’s meant to go to the Shiny Sheet office at 4 for some stag photoshoot. Now, Ann puts 2 and 2 together, realizing that this whole thing is a set-up by Pinky and Raquel, a decoy mole. When Virginia shows up, the ladies tell her what’s going on, chloroform Perry, and then use Jed’s body as the mole. Tom shoots Jed, and he slides down like a doll because his body is frozen, of course. But, Virginia congratulates him, and that’s that. Tom’s an American hero.
Does Douglas Marry Mitzi?
The ladies then arrive at the wedding to find out there’s no wedding, because Douglas called it off after learning about the baby not being his. Maxine takes matters into her own hands and decides to give Douglas a talk. The man’s totally out of it, and still believes Maxine will be nice to him if he acts pitiful, but she’s out for vengeance and tells him that she’s not going to fall for his act anymore. Douglas tries to tell Maxine that marriage is a big deal, but he’s the one who ruined their lives. He even claims they used to be happy before they came to Palm Beach. Douglas thinks saying the love between them will never die is a threat to Maxine, but it’s obviously not. She walks away just like that, and he yells that she’s going to regret this whole thing, but clearly not.
How Does Perry Become Mayor?
When Dinah is helping Mitzi get ready, Dinah has a message for her (apart from realizing how lame Perry really is): husbands are as useful as you make them. Mitzi’s still young and naive and wonders how great life would be if she were free of men (starting her talk with how she’s always had a boyfriend). But in this process, Dinah also discovers the missing imperial egg, right in front of her eyes, in plain sight. She immediately takes it to Marjorie Post, telling her that what she wants in return is for her to rig the vote for Perry, i.e. making him the new mayor of Palm Beach. The plan works, and at the end of the episode, Dinah’s standing tall and happy, and if Perry had any doubt about whether he and Dinah will be okay, I think that this answers it all.
Who Gets Married?
Maxine walks into the chapel, and it’s only Norma there. They make their apologies and realize that they’re actually very alike in every way. Norma asks Maxine if she can share the fortune with her and Linda, but Maxine tells her that it’s all over. But this is when Robert shows up, telling the duo (after he’s shocked to see them cordial), that he can’t have custody because he’s an unmarried man. This gives Maxine the best idea she’s had so far, a true lavender marriage, because Maxine does, in fact, love Robert, unlike most marriages in Palm Beach. Norma even gives her a ring in return for the old engagement ring, which actually belongs to her. She plans on giving it to Linda. Maxine and Robert are married, and everyone seems to be happy (except Doug, of course). Norma gives us a beautiful song, watching her son getting married with the possibility of being happy for good. Evelyn sets Eddie free, and he reunites with Mitzi, a pregnant bride with no groom. All Evelyn wants is independence, and she’s got it. Before the ceremony is over, Norma’s out of the door, not to be found anywhere.
In Palm Royal season 2’s ending, Maxine learns that Robert had Rafael when he was married, which means Rafael can unlock the Dellacorte fortune, which means all of their dreams can finally come true. Maxine has enough money to save all her ladies, and everyone can be happy, but is this the end of it all? Well, no, for one, it appears Rafael himself is a mole of some kind, claiming “they fell for it,” which means he’s working for somebody. We’re ruling out Norma now, because she seems to have completely sobered up. On the other hand, Dinah has her own thing going on, and Evelyn is really just besties with Maxine at this point, so it can’t be her, surely. Maybe it’s the secret mole, who we still don’t know about. The show ends with a beautiful song and dance. Mitzi and Eddie get a good share of the fortune (yes, they’re probably together now). Mary might’ve learnt that Maxine killed Jed from her ouija board, but we’ll see what that really means.
What Do We Know About The Russian Mole?
This brings me to talk about the Russian mole. Throughout this season, Ann and Virginia have been desperate to crack this story, Ann for her reputation as a journalist, and Virginia so she gets taken seriously in the men’s club. However, though they know that the whole mole thing was a decoy, they will eventually unveil the truth. It seems the truth is, Marjorie is the mole, and she was the one who got Pinky and Raquel to lie. I guess she wanted to get rid of Perry for Dinah, but she doesn’t care that much that he didn’t die. I hope I didn’t misread her message, but it does seem to me that she’s the mole herself.
Where Are Norma And Linda?
Also, it’s really sweet that the show ends on a positive note, that Linda has finally found love, but this love isn’t romantic love; it’s the love of a mother, because it appears after Maxine sent her an enormous chunk of the baby fund, Linda travelled the world and finally landed in Paris, a free bird who needed to be found. And now, Norma’s found her, and mother-daughter may finally get to experience the life they never knew they were missing out on. Though I do believe Linda will return to Palm Beach.
