Palm Royale season 2 has just been getting more entertaining as we come closer to the final episode. The Kristen Wiig show is unbelievably hilarious in the most unsubtle ways, and I absolutely love it. Episode 6 saw Maxine being visited by her unknown twin sister, only for us to see her die in the final moments. Now, honestly, I thought Evelyn herself pulled the trigger, but it seems nobody else in Palm Beach believes that, so I was totally off. Anyway, episode 7 saw the girls all scattered around until Virginia finally got them all to the same motel where Robert was staying. For the longest time, I did not understand why Robert was constantly siding with Norma despite everything she did to Maxine. I mean, even Mirabelle is dead, but Robert’s still mad at Maxine after all of this? Huh? Of course she’d get new friends, Robert! You shot her down first! But the ending of the episode gave us all the answers we needed. So with that said, let’s jump straight into episode 7 of season 2.
Spoiler Alert
What Happens With Bruce?
Episode 7 of Palm Royale begins with Maxine typically behaving like she has no idea what’s going on but still manages to do a great job at keeping things sane. While Doug is crying about Maxine being dead (Virginia’s idea so that they can catch the serial killer Norma), Maxine is meant to hide out in the motel so that nobody knows she’s still alive. But it turns out the killer herself is keeping Mary hostage in her own home. The trio of Ann, Dinah, and Evelyn are meant to identify Maxine’s body but can’t get themselves to look at it. But when they finally do look, they instantly say it’s not Maxine, as if Mirabelle didn’t look exactly like her sister. Back at the motel, Robert walks out, giving Maxine the finger because he doesn’t believe Norma killed Mirabelle, thinking it was Maxine, and doesn’t appreciate that she’s worried about little Dougie because, let’s face it, he’s just not it. However, I’ll have to side with Maxine here because I do appreciate the idea of “griefting” for two.
Anyway, Robert leaves Maxine, which makes her even more restless, so she immediately steps out of the motel room, which leads to Bruce in the hot tub yelling for Maxine, asking her why she’s by herself and hiding out in her room. It doesn’t take long for Maxine to scream at the top of her lungs about what’s going on so that Bruce, who is on the other side of the motel, can hear her. So much for hiding out, eh? Anyway, Bruce is immediately intrigued, and it appears Maxine now has a best friend who won’t judge her for anything, as Robert does. Meanwhile, Mitzi’s losing her mind at home all alone, and Douglas and Perry head out to find Dinah and keep her safe because there’s yet another paper cut-out threatening note.
Anyway, Bruce and Maxine make plans to go sneak on their exes, all while Mitzi’s freaking out about how badly she’s treated Maxine all this time. On the other hand, Robert’s headed to the FBI to find Tom, but it turns out the man doesn’t work there anymore. But Robert meets Doug and a flabbergasted Perry there, dying to get some protection for his wife, but all the agent has to say is come back when she’s been missing for 24 hours. To be fair, Dinah, Evelyn, and Ann are also now locked up in the motel with Maxine, thanks to Virginia. Anyway, Douglas tells the feds they can’t keep Maxine’s body on ice because she always wanted to be cremated.
On the other hand, the ex Bruce was talking about happens to be Rock Hudson, and he’s coming to Maxine’s funeral. But at the moment, Maxine has bigger fish to fry, i.e., she has to scare the beejezus out of Mitzi, who’s talking on the phone to someone about how she’s done everything they asked for (we’ll get back to this). Maxine likes the idea of Mitzi, the other woman, being so out of it, so she lets her stew in it after Bruce and she put Mitzi on the bed. Meanwhile, Robert makes it to Tom’s house, but he’s not there either. His wife, though, tells Robert to stay away from Tom because he’s finally gotten something better for himself and they share kids together. Robert asks her politely if she can say bye to Tom for him, but she declines.
But back at the motel, Virginia is furious that Maxine stepped out, but the girl makes things even crazier when she invites all the ladies to a pool party organized by Bruce and his pals downstairs. The ladies aren’t interested until she starts talking about the minibar. Virginia then gives the ladies their duties for the funeral, and all of them have to be there except for Maxine, of course. Meanwhile, Robert genuinely feels bad about Maxine leaving him for Bruce, but he can’t really show his true feelings.
What Happens To “Palm Royale”?
Now the IRS shows up, because they got word of Pinky thanks to Evelyn, but this has put her in trouble because the “Palm Royale” is hers now. But still, she’s got a funeral to take care of, so that’s what she’s focused on for the moment. Also, can’t ignore little Jed giving Evelyn a drink in the middle of all this and also sneakily listening in on the conversations. While Bruce and Maxine decide to take a sneak peek at the funeral, mainly so Bruce can look at his rock, Maxine decides to take it one step further and go check on Mirabelle. She makes it inside with no trouble, what with all the practice, but the shocking truth is Mirabelle isn’t in the coffin! Why? Because Douglas (well, Perry and his temper tantrum) got her cremated, thinking she was Maxine.
Meanwhile, Mary is meant to be delivering a message to the people at the funeral from Norma. Anyway, after some here’s and there’s, Evelyn starts the funeral, and Maxine’s lying in the coffin because she hid there when some guests showed up earlier. But Mary has a message for Maxine, and she decides to open the coffin. Shockingly, Maxine is there, and Mitzi freaks out and runs away, all while Mary gives Maxine a message from Mirabelle, letting her know she’s okay. Before Mary can deliver Norma’s message, Doug starts his speech, talking about how much he loves her and how sorry he is. Let’s not forget Robert’s very loving message. In the ladies’ room, Dinah learns that it’s actually Miss Post who has been sending her the threatening letters, because Dinah stole Nixon from her. But anyway, he doesn’t plan on coming to Palm Beach anymore, but if Dinah can get the Faberge egg all the way from Switzerland, she’ll forgive her. If she doesn’t manage to get it, though, Post will tell everyone about Dinah being Nixon’s side-piece (ouch).
Finally, when everyone thinks Norma’s there, it happens to be Bruce, who wanted to give Rock a message. But Maxine already stepped out of the coffin, making it clear she’s not dead (sigh). Doug’s the first and probably only person to be genuinely upset that Maxine made him believe she was dead, but Virginia tells him the whole story to straighten things out.
But in the ending of Palm Royale episode 7, we finally learn the truth we’ve been waiting for: Norma is Robert’s mother, and she’s come back to save him from this disastrous world (I think?). On the other hand, the other big twist is that the real villain of this whole thing is Jed. But, on the other hand, Evelyn has a massive fight with Eddie, because she has to pay 8 million in taxes, so the Palm is going to be shut down anyway till that’s done. So much for trying to acquire it. Anyway, this leaves her all by her lonesome in her private quarters, and Jed shows up to make her day better. But as soon as he’s gone, Evelyn discovers his wallet, and what’s in it? A picture of Mitzi, the love of his life. Which means what? Well, obviously, the baby is his! And that’s who Mitzi was talking to on the phone. On the other hand, there’s news for Maxine too. Douglas is still obsessed with her, but he still needs her to go with him to Switzerland to sign over all the money to him. Oh, she puts Mirabelle’s ashes in the hot tub. Then, when she meets Virginia, she apologizes for almost getting her fired. However, it’s all interrupted by Mary, who tells them that Norma held her captive in her own home for 3 days. But she also talks about a “bootlegger.” Her one chance at true love. Well, this person is revealed to be none other than Jed! Looks like Jed’s trying to steal from all the girlies of Palm Beach, but Evelyn’s onto him. On the other hand, Maxine and Virginia realize immediately that Norma’s going to be in Switzerland! So that’s where we’re headed next week. Can’t wait for all the fur coats and hats.
