‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Episode 7 Recap & Ending Explained: Is Keith 2 Dead Or Alive?

Published

In episode 6 of Peacemaker Season 2, Rick Sr. met Lex to get his help with figuring out where the Quantum Unfolding Chamber currently was. In exchange, Lex would be transferred from Belle Reve, a place full of metahuman inmates, to Van Kull, which supposedly didn’t have metahuman prisoners. Lex accepted the terms and pointed Rick Sr. in the direction of one of his engineers who could assist him. Economos, Harcourt, Adebayo, and Adrian went into Earth-X to bring back Chris. Harcourt got cornered by Keith 2 and had to pretend that she was Harcourt 2 in order to get to ARGUS 2 and find Chris. In the meantime, Vigilante went off to find his doppelganger, and Adebayo and Economos cleaned up the house since Eagly had made a big mess. It didn’t take too long for Harcourt to figure out that this alternate dimension didn’t have a lot of people of color out on the streets, and when she pointed that out to Chris, he was shocked that he hadn’t noticed that. Vigilante learned from Vigilante 2 that he was a member of the Sons of Liberty and that Peacemaker, his family, and almost everyone out there were a bunch of Nazis. Adebayo went to take out the trash and was chased through the streets by the Whites because they thought she was one of the Black prisoners who had escaped from the prison. What happened next? Let’s find out.

Spoiler Alert

Auggie 2 Wants To Save Chris And Harcourt

Once Harcourt is done pointing at the copies of Mein Kampf on every table at ARGUS 2 and the giant mural of Adolf Hitler on the wall, Chris finally comes to the realization that the world that he thinks is so “perfect” isn’t perfect at all. On that note, he and Harcourt proceed to fight their way out of the building. Adrian 2 tells Adrian that the Sons of Liberty is the only line of resistance against the Nazis who won World War 2. That’s when Adrian remembers that Adebayo is out there and she needs to be protected before these White supremacists get to her. So, Adrian and Adrian 2 head out to look for her. Speaking of Adebayo, after running through the streets for a while, she takes a detour into the backyard of a house with a pool in it. Since there’s no way to go around the pool without getting nabbed by these Nazis, she goes into it. Thankfully, Judomaster finds Adebayo, pulls her out, and electrocutes the pool while the Nazis are still in it; he keeps the wires in there until he’s sure that all of them are dead.

No, Keith 2 doesn’t die with them because while he was chasing Adebayo along with his fellow Nazis, he got a call from Auggie 2 telling him to come back to the house because he needs to listen to what Economos has to say. Once he gets there, Auggie 2 breaks the news to Keith 2 that Chris 2 is dead. Auggie 2 had apparently run into Auggie a few years ago, and since then, he knew that there were alternate dimensions just like his but a bit different. He didn’t do anything about it because he thought that there wouldn’t be any overlap, but here we are. So, Auggie 2 thinks that they need to bring in Chris and Harcourt before they yap to someone that they have come through an interdimensional portal in the Smith household. Yes, much like in Earth Prime, nobody on Earth-X knows that the Smiths have a Quantum Unfolding Chamber, and much like in Earth Prime, if the authorities in Earth-X learn about it, they’ll take it away. Hence, the father-son duo suit up and head out in search of Chris and Harcourt.

Fitzgibbon 2 Exists

Economos tries to get Eagly to free him from the chair he has been tied to, but Eagly doesn’t really take orders or suggestions from anyone but Chris or himself. Therefore, Economos is stuck. Elsewhere, Judomaster takes Adebayo to the house (whose owners are out of town) he has been taking shelter at so that they can wait there and then use the cover of night to get to the Smith household, access the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, and get back to their dimension. Going back to Chris and Harcourt, their romantic bike ride through the forests of Evergreen is interrupted by the police. Just when they think they have been cornered, Auggie 2 and Keith 2 arrive to save them. After bringing them back to the Smith mansion, Chris basically gives a recap of everything that has happened so far since episode 1.

This tête-à-tête is briefly interrupted by Detective Larry Fitzgibbon 2—who was in Season 1 too and became a Butterfly—because he wants to apprehend Chris after his little stunt at ARGUS 2. Auggie 2 uses a white lie to say that his son isn’t in the house—because, technically, Chris 2 is dead—and if Fitzgibbon 2 wants to come in and search the premises, he needs a warrant. Hence, Fitzgibbon 2 and the police officers get off the Smith estate and wait on the boundaries until the judge issues a warrant. This makes it difficult for Adebayo and Judomaster, who have finally arrived at the Smith estate without getting spotted, to get to the Quantum Unfolding Chamber because they can’t exactly waltz in through the front door with all those police officers around. Adrian and Adrian 2 find Adebayo and Judomaster hiding in the woods pretty conveniently, and after some bickering between Adrian and Judomaster, they collectively decide to find an entry point into the house that’s not heavily guarded yet.

Auggie 2 Is Dead, But Keith 2 Is Alive

During the conversation between Auggie 2, Keith 2, Chris, Economos, and Harcourt, the man of the house says that they’ll wait until their friends come back, then they’ll all walk through the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, and after that Auggie 2 will make sure that nobody finds Earth-X ever again. Keith 2 wants to kill Chris for killing Chris 2, but Auggie 2 says that revenge won’t bring him back. Harcourt is surprised that a Nazi like Auggie 2 isn’t being ruthless for a change. Auggie 2 rejects the Nazi label and says that he doesn’t agree with everything that’s happening in Earth-X. He deals with the problems that he can and turns a blind eye to the issues that he can’t solve. And he hopes that when he dies, he will have made a positive impact on the world. Well, thanks to Vigilante, Auggie 2’s wish is fulfilled a little sooner than he anticipated as Vigilante crashes through the window and stabs Auggie 2 to death.

This prompts Keith 2 to start firing at everyone in there, while Fitzgibbon 2 orders the police to storm the castle. Chris, Vigilante, Vigilante 2, Adebayo, Judomaster, Harcourt, Economos, and Eagly begin making their way to the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. At the end of Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 7, right when Chris is about to walk through the door, Keith 2 takes him down and tries to kill him. But Chris’s friends come to his rescue and begin pummeling the living hell out of Keith 2. Unable to witness his brother and father die again before his eyes, Chris cries out in anguish and tells everyone to stop. He apologizes to Keith 2 for bringing his signature brand of curse to this realm and then leaves. Harcourt hangs back, though, for a little while longer in order to put a bullet in Keith 2’s head because she wants to ensure that he doesn’t come after Chris or Adrian for revenge.

However, before she can pull the trigger, Fitzgibbon 2 and his crew show up, thereby prompting her to jump into the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. Vigilante 2 closes the door to the interdimensional portal while fighting off the cops. I don’t think he gets shot to death by the officers and manages to escape out of that hellhole to fight another day for the Sons of Liberty. Keith 2 is rescued by the paramedics. Once everyone has made it out of the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, Chris closes it, and well, that’s that for Earth-X, at least for now. Meanwhile, in Earth Prime, after getting in touch with Syd Happersen, Rick Sr., Bordeaux, Fleury, and the rest of ARGUS have arrived at Adrian’s doorstep to apprehend the 11th Street Kids. Chris doesn’t put up much of a fight. He hands over the portal-opening device to Rick Sr. and clears the names of his friends by saying that all of them actually convinced him to surrender himself and the machine. Once Judomaster gives his seal of approval on that obviously false narrative, Rick Sr. has Chris arrested and taken to jail.

Was Auggie 2 Not A Nazi?

Now, I must address a few things. Was Auggie 2 not a Nazi? Most of the internet is convinced that Auggie 2 was a nice guy in a world of Nazis and Vigilante is a monster for killing him. To that I say, have you all gone mad? In a world of Nazis, a moderate Nazi is still a Nazi. For all I know, Auggie 2 was probably putting up an act to protect his interdimensional portal, and if the police weren’t at his doorstep, he would have rounded up all of the Earth Primers and killed them all. Can anyone say without a shadow of a doubt that that wasn’t actually what Auggie 2 was planning? That he wouldn’t have mass murdered them if Vigilante hadn’t jumped him with a knife? When Auggie 2 talks about fighting bad guys, he is probably referring to the people who are fighting Nazis. How the hell could that be a good thing? Just because he and his son don’t like cops, they are lowkey anti-fascist and ACAB? No; again, they did it to protect the secret portal. Look, Auggie 2 didn’t amass all that wealth and fortune by being a moderate Nazi. He has benefitted from oppression, slavery, and racism. In his old age, maybe he felt the weight of it all and said some nonsense about violence and revenge. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a Nazi anymore. There’s a saying that if there’s a Nazi in a room and 10 people are talking to him, despite knowing that that’s a Nazi, then that room has 11 Nazis.

And that brings me to Chris’s reaction to watching Auggie 2 and Keith 2 get butchered before him. On a fundamental level, yeah, sure, I understand that he was overwhelmed by the fact that he was watching his brother and father die again. John Cena acts the hell out of this scene as well. However, what the hell does he mean when he says that there’s something wrong with all of the Earth Primers for trying to kill Nazis? The fact that this comes right after James Gunn’s spineless stance about the parallels between Superman’s central plot and what Israel is doing to Palestine doesn’t really sit right with me. So, let me just state this as plainly as possible: killing Nazis doesn’t make you a Nazi. Nazis don’t deserve sympathy. Nazis won’t change for the better if you show them empathy. Nazis can’t be re-educated. They can put on a mask to mingle with the masses, but at their core, they’ll always be a Nazi. We have been seeing this since the ‘40s; we have tried all kinds of moderate techniques; and we have failed. Nazi-style fascism is at everyone’s doorstep now. So, don’t let Peacemaker’s cry of anguish that we’re becoming as violent as Nazis while killing Nazis fool you. Also, don’t take lessons about anti-fascism from artists who can’t take a stand for the right in real life. They know that they are catering to a crowd that craves anti-fascist messaging, but if those values aren’t reflected in real life, what’s even the point of these “edgy” storylines?

Okay, going back to the plot, no, Vigilante 2 didn’t go to Earth Prime, and Vigilante didn’t stay in Earth-X. At least that’s what I think. When Chris is being taken away by the cops, Vigilante goes for the gun, which is something I think Vigilante 2 would do. Hence, yeah, I don’t think a switcheroo has happened. As for the portal-opening device, it’s obvious that Rick Sr. is going to use it with the help of Happersen. The teaser for next week’s episode shows ARGUS agents stumbling upon several dimensions; there’s one that looks like Wonderland, and then there’s the one that has giant skull-head spiders. In this endeavor, Rick Sr. might reopen the door to Earth-X and invite Keith 2’s wrath into this world. It’s probably going to have a time jump as well because we hear that Chris hasn’t been taking any visitors. There’s also a good chance that Chris is going to become a villain after witnessing the death of his family (from an alternate dimension). Anyway, those are just my thoughts on this episode of Peacemaker Season 2. If you have any opinions on the same, feel free to share them in the comments section below.
