‘Reacher’ Season 3 Episode 7 Recap & Ending Explained: Has Quinn Ambushed Beck?

Published

In the 6th episode of Reacher Season 3, Jack met Quinn again, and it became apparent that the latter didn’t have any recollection of the fact that Jack had shot him in the head and left him to die. In addition to that, it was revealed that Teresa was alive and was about to be used as a “deal sweetener” for the ongoing negotiations between Quinn and the prospective buyers for his guns. Talking about guns, Jack learned that Beck wasn’t an innocent rug salesman who was turned to the dark side by Quinn; Beck was always a gun runner, Quinn just took over his operation.

Now, while Richard seemingly doesn’t have any idea about his father’s true face, he did find out that Jack was working with the DEA to take down his dad. He only kept mum on that matter because Jack promised to get Quinn off his and his father’s backs. Richard’s silence was of no use, though, because Quinn eventually found out about his association with the 110th. While Jack escaped from the Beck estate by the skin of his teeth, Powell and Neagley had to face the repercussions of Jack’s actions. Powell was seemingly killed, but Neagley came out on top at the end of the ordeal. To make things even, Jack and Duffy killed Harley, who was holding Teresa captive before she was moved from her holding spot, and then they proceeded to travel to Los Angeles to corner Prado. Did they succeed in this endeavor of theirs in the 7th episode of Reacher Season 3? Let’s find out.

Spoiler Alert

Jack and Duffy Corner Prado

Episode 7 of Reacher Season 3 opens in Boston, where Duffy and Jack make a pit stop before heading over to Los Angeles to meet with Teresa’s grandmother and give her some assurance that they are making progress in the search for her granddaughter. This whole sequence is genuinely bittersweet as you see the old-timer giving the young ones some romantic advice while also reminiscing about Teresa and hoping that she’ll come back.

The scene, set in Chicago, that follows this one is the exact opposite of that, as Neagley roughs up Costopoulos, who seems to be the local gangster who was hired by Quinn to send his men to kill Neagley. Since Jack hasn’t told Neagley anything about Quinn’s operations, she gets all the information she needs out of Costopoulos. As Neagley makes her way to Maine, Jack and Duffy corner Prado and get him to take them to his art gallery. Once Jack and Duffy are sure that Prado doesn’t have his security to help him out, they threaten him with jail time if he doesn’t get them a meeting with Beck. The moment Prado does Jack and Duffy’s bidding, Duffy makes a call to the DEA, and they swoop in to see if they can get some dirt on him.

Neagley Finally Joins Hands With Jack

The scene shifts to Maine where, as per her conversation with Jack, Neagley shows up as the buyer that wants to make a deal with Beck while Jack, Duffy, and Guillermo observe from afar. As soon as Beck enters the frame, it becomes clear that he’s paid the price for bringing Jack into his operations by cutting off his ear. In doing so, he has also prevented Quinn from hurting Richard any more. But that doesn’t mean Beck is in the clear. Neagley says that Quinn has a history of killing off people once they are of no use to him. Given how Quinn is nearing his latest deal, it’s obvious that he is going to murder Beck and Richard. Neagley tells Beck that if he wants to come out of this ordeal alive, he needs to tell her the location of the sale so that Jack can take care of Quinn before Quinn can harm Beck and/or Richard.

The issue here is that Beck has been relegated to “need to know basis” because of his latest missteps. He only knows that the buyers from Yemen are landing at a private airfield. Beyond that, he has no idea and he has been told to just enjoy his 50th birthday party while he still can. Neagley urges Beck to try and find out everything he can about the sale, and also get some info on where Teresa is being held, because without that, Jack can’t really do anything. While the location of the sale continues to be a mystery, we do get our first glimpse of Teresa, who is being held in the basement of an abandoned warehouse and is being pumped with drugs so that she doesn’t kick up a fuss. Jack, Duffy, Neagley, and Guillermo plan their next steps as they wait for Beck’s call. Guillermo zeroes in on Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport as the one that’s going to be used by the Yemeni buyers coming to negotiate with Beck and Quinn. Based on that hunch, Duffy makes some calls to the Federal Aviation Administration. Neagley takes Jack aside for a chat about how he is feeling regarding involving her and Duffy in this mission, for 2 very different reasons by the way. Jack says that he trusts everyone to pull their weight, including Guillermo, and he has learned to compartmentalize his personal feelings well enough to not let them come in the way of him and the job at hand.

Beck Keeps His End Of The Deal

We get a brief scene set in the Beck household where the father and son share a bittersweet moment over the gift that Richard had bought for Beck’s birthday as Beck admits that his faults as a father and Richard more or less forgives him. They hug it out and it’s pretty emotional and whatnot, but this pretty much confirms that one of them is going to bite the dust eventually. For now, it’s back to business as Neagley follows the Yemeni buyers and Beck informs Quinn that the guns are ready to be presented for sale. Beck asks Quinn where the truck full of guns is supposed to go so that he can relay the information to Jack. Quinn sinisterly tells Beck that the transaction is going to take place at the Bullhead Salvage Yard.

Since the oh-so-important transaction is going to happen in the middle of the party, and Beck won’t be around to look out for Richard, he tries his best to get Quinn’s permission to let Richard leave. Quinn essentially tells Beck to shut up and just do the job that has been assigned to him. Beck promptly relays the information to Jack (Neagley gave Jack’s phone number to Beck when she met him), but Jack is stopped in his tracks by Guillermo and Duffy. The DEA duo apparently wants to bring in the ATF because the mission has become too risky, and they think that the four of them can’t pull this off on their own anymore. Jack thinks that he won’t get his vengeance against Quinn, but his passionate words don’t scare Guillermo and Duffy, and they set up a meeting with the ATF anyway.

The ATF Sidelines Jack, Duffy, and Guillermo

ATF chief Doug Sears reprimands Duffy and Guillermo for taking so long to bring all this information to them, but when they try to hijack the mission, Duffy and Guillermo argue that it’s not right. But Duffy and Guillermo’s protests fall on deaf ears, and Sears tells them to stay in the observation van on the boundary of the salvage yard so that they don’t interfere in the ATF’s efforts to stop the gun sale. Jack warns Sears that Quinn will look to hurt Richard, but Sears is too angry to give a damn about the nitty-gritty of this operation, and he shuts Jack down.

Before leaving the office, Sears tells Duffy and Guillermo their professional careers are as good as over; so, they should start writing their goodbye letters to their colleagues. Back at the motel/safehouse, Duffy addresses an adorably grumpy Jack so that he understands that his mission to personally see to Quinn’s death could risk Teresa’s life. It seems like Jack realizes the error of his ways, but that’s not going to stop him from doing what he thinks is right. While the ATF sets up their people in and around the salvage yard, we see Beck telling Quinn’s associates to make sure that the trucks reach the aforementioned location on time. Then he heads over to his house to dress up for his birthday party and warn Richard to lock himself up in his room right when the sale is about to go down because Beck has a feeling that Quinn will try to do something to him if things go sideways.

Beck Walks Into An Ambush

At the end of Reacher Season 3 episode 7, Beck reaches the salvage yard with his guns. Jack goes against protocol and sets up his sniper rifle because he doesn’t trust the ATF to kill Quinn, just in case he is at the sale, which he is not, by the way. And Jack only realizes that this whole “sale” is a ruse set up by Quinn when he gives a call to Neagley and she says that the buyers are not at the salvage yard; they are at Beck’s estate. Here’s what I think has happened. Quinn wants to punish Beck for his insolence, and I have a feeling that he is suspicious of his ties with the 110th and the ATF. Quinn probably thinks that Beck’s operations haven’t been infiltrated by people from the law enforcement authorities, but that Beck has purposefully brought them in to deal with Quinn.

Yes, Quinn is correct in thinking that Beck is working with Jack and Duffy now, but he didn’t bring them in before. But, I guess, that doesn’t matter anymore now, and he just wants to be done with Beck because he has caused him enough setbacks already. Hence, Quinn has sent Beck to the salvage yard, probably with empty trucks, and intends to get him killed in a shootout between the ATF and his own men, while he negotiates a plump deal with the Yemenis in Beck’s house at Beck’s 50th birthday party. Thankfully, Jack has figured all this out. However, is it too late for him to save Beck? As mentioned before, Beck’s emotional scenes with Richard are a sign that there’s a good chance he isn’t making it out of this ordeal alive. The trailers have teased a shootout at the salvage yard. So, yeah, one way or the other, Quinn is going to get Beck if Jack doesn’t get to Quinn first. Let’s wait to see what happens in the finale next week!
