Jax and her team, for the last 9 episodes of Reasonable Doubt season 3, were trying to find evidence that could prove that their client, Ozzie Edwards, was not guilty. Jax was the kind of person who trusted her intuition, and so even when there was no clarity about what actually transpired on that fateful day when Wendy was killed, she believed that Ozzie was innocent. The witness testimony and the cross-examinations that happened in episode 9 made it pretty clear that Ozzie couldn’t be charged by the court, but that didn’t mean that they had found the killer. Though Jax was happy with her closing arguments and she was hopeful that she would win the case, deep down she wanted to know who the real killer was. So let’s find out what happened in the Reasonable Doubt season 3 finale, and if Jax and her team were able to find out, if not Ozzie, then who had killed Wendy.
Spoiler Alert
What happened to Ozzie after the final verdict?
In the previous episode of Reasonable Doubt season 3, it became pretty evident that the jury would rule in favor of Ozzie Edwards. Jax, after the testimony of Monica, Kristin, Rosie, Sal, the forensic experts, and every other witness she brought to the stand, was able to prove that there was no way her client could have killed Wendy. She proved that Ozzie was not in his senses on that night, and it wasn’t possible for him to find the way to his cabin, where Wendy had gone apparently after fighting with him. Moreover, Jax made a solid and impactful closing argument, and that served as the final nail in the coffin for Mike Ortiz’s case. Jax took her chances, as she believed that, being the defendant, it was her prerogative to think outside the box and take a little bit of risk. She believed that if she became conservative in her approach and just went with the tried-and-tested formula, then she wouldn’t be able to leave the kind of impact she could otherwise. Jax knew that the odds could very well turn against her if she didn’t play her cards right. But she trusted her intuition and did what she felt was right. In the end, the court acquitted Ozzie of all charges and found that the evidence presented by the prosecutors wasn’t enough to prove that he had killed his girlfriend, Wendy.
Ozzie was happy, and to celebrate his victory, he decided to go over to Jax’s for dinner. His mother had also called him over that night, and he had a party organized at his place too, but still he felt like meeting Jax and spending time with her. After the dinner, Jax revealed to him that she had contacted a rehab facility and that they were coming to take him in the next 15 minutes. Jax cared for Ozzie, and she wanted to make sure that he was fully equipped to face the world in the future. Ozzie wasn’t happy with her decision, but deep down he also knew that she was doing it because she wanted him to be better. In a state of paranoia, fearing that he wouldn’t be able to survive in rehab, Ozzie committed the blunder of consuming drugs one last time before he was taken in. He felt that his body could take it, but he was wrong. Ozzie overdosed and probably had a stroke, because of which he died on the spot before the workers of the rehab facility could take him in. Jax loved Ozzie like her own kid, and she couldn’t accept the fact that he was no longer with them. I believe that it was Ozzie’s death that fueled a fire inside Jax, and she became more adamant than ever to find out what had exactly happened that fateful night, and how Ozzie became a part of the mess.
Who killed Wendy?
At the end of the 9th episode, Kristin told Daniel that she was not as innocent as he thought her to be. It seemed as if she had something to do with Wendy’s murder, or at least knew something that Jax and the law-enforcement officers didn’t have a clue about. In episode 10, Kristin confessed that she was the one who had shot at Wendy because she was threatening to expose the family secrets and tell the world how they exploited Ozzie for their own interests. But that was not the truth, and Kristin was still trying to put up an act to save somebody. Jax went to have a chat with Kristin after the verdict was out. It didn’t take Jax long to figure out that it was Sal, Ozzie’s father, who had killed Wendy, not Kristin. So Rosie had a video of Sal and his secretary, and she showed it to Ozzie, telling him that it was Wendy who’d had an affair with another man. Ozzie got mad, and he went and confronted Wendy. She tried to tell him the truth; she tried to make him understand that his parents didn’t want them to be together, which was why they were just making up all kinds of lies. But Ozzie was not in the right mind to understand somebody else’s perspective. Wendy went to the Edwards house, and she threatened to expose the entire family if they tried to create a wedge between her and Ozzie. Sal confronted Wendy, and he just couldn’t control his anger at that moment. He hit Wendy so hard she hit her head on a table and started bleeding profusely. Sal asked his daughter, Kristin, to help her out, and together they took Wendy to their cabin. Wendy, though injured, was still alive. Kristin wanted her father to stop, but she didn’t have the courage to tell him to do that. Ozzie arrived at the scene together with Alex Hill, but before he could find out what was happening there, he passed out. Wendy tried to free herself and escape. Sal, in the heat of the moment, shot at her. Sal caught her, and I believe had Wendy accepted his proposition to take his money and leave their lives, he wouldn’t have killed her. But Wendy told him to his face that no amount of money could stop her from telling the truth and being with Ozzie. That’s when Sal killed her and then went back to the cabin and asked Kritin to clean up everything and not leave anything behind that could ruin the family’s reputation.
Jax was able to convince Kristin to help her incriminate Sal, as he didn’t deserve to roam free after what he had done. Kristin went to talk to her father, and little did he know that she was wearing a wire. Sal confessed to his crimes and told Kristin how she and her mother were good for nothing, and had it not been for him, they all would have been ruined. The police arrived at the scene, as that unintentional confession was enough to press charges against him. I don’t know if Sal would have to spend years behind bars or if he would be able to use his contacts to get bailed out. What I know is that the man deserved the punishment, as he had ruined the lives of his kids and given Kristin a lifetime of trauma to deal with.
What made Jax start her own law firm?
There were a couple of major developments that happened at the end of season 3, episode 10 that had an impact on Jax and Lewis’ life. Lewis finally found a way to fire Sam Oliver, the new joinee who was good for nothing, who did not work at the office, and who always found a way to get leverage over Lewis or make him sympathize with his situation. Sam was a liar, and he believed that he had found a loophole in the system until Lewis threw him out.
Chelsea finally met Jax, and she told her that Eddie had come back into her life just because he wanted some money from her. Chelsea told Jax that she’d always wanted to know her and develop a bond, as they were sisters at the end of the day. Jax was very disappointed in her father; she confronted him over how he had let her down once again. Eddie wanted to give some excuse and tell his side of the story, but Jax was in no mood to hear him out. She told him that she might be willing to hear his side of the story and even believe him in the future, but as of now, she wanted some space. Maybe Eddie was not entirely wrong, but he had nobody else to blame for the mess that he had created.
After everything that had happened, Jax took the big decision to open her own law firm. She was done playing politics with Stephen and Vince, and she was just not happy being around them. Bill, I believe, tried to make Jax understand how he took her side in front of the other two partners, but that made Jax even more sure that she wanted to leave. Jax told Bill that the fact that he needed to take her side in front of people with whom she had worked for so many years meant that she deserved better. So Jax finally resigned as partner and started her own law firm.
Why did Monica shoot at Lewis and Jax?
Well, there came a twist at the end of Reasonable Doubt season 3 episode 10. Jax, Lewis, and Daniel were at Jax’s new firm when a woman came there. She pointed her gun towards Lewis and Jax, and it came to be known that she was none other than Monica, Ozzie’s manager. Monica’s life had been turned upside down after she was literally thrown under the bus during her cross-examination. The world came to know that she had abused a 13-year-old, though Monica was delusional enough to believe that what she had was love. Monica, the woman who was considered to be one of those people who knew Ozzie inside out, in whom he confided, was not even allowed to attend his funeral. She stood on the sidelines and watched the people take his coffin. Maybe after the cross-examination Monica lost her other clients too (presuming there were some apart from Ozzie). Maybe the industry boycotted her, labeled her as a child abuser, and most of all didn’t give any sort of validation that she craved for the kind of relationship she shared with Ozzie. So she came after the people who she thought were responsible for creating that evil perception of hers. If there is another season of Reasonable Doubt, we will get to know if Lewis and Jax survived the attack or if either of them met their fateful end. As for Monica, I believe that whatever little hope was left for her, she ruined it with her own hands.
