In the previous episode of Reasonable Doubt season 3, Krystal, Jax’s assistant, got to know that Daniel (Jax’s other assistant) was having an affair with Kristin, who happened to be the sister of the prime accused in the case that Jax had been handling. In season 3 episode 8, Krystal went and told Jax about it, and the latter immediately called Daniel and told him that she didn’t expect him to do this sort of thing. Also, Daniel was still trying to find out if Kristin was hiding something from him. In episode 8, Kristin saw his diary and learned that he had doubts about her. In fact, Kristin had just told Daniel that she had feelings for him when she got to know that he didn’t trust her. I believe a confrontation between Daniel and Kristin is long overdue, and now that the latter knows that he doubted her intentions too, she will definitely need some answers from him. With that said, allow me to dig deeper into episode 8 of season 3.
Spoiler Alert
What did the forensic pathologist state about Wendy’s murder?
Jax and Bill decided to put a forensic pathologist named Robert Wilder on the stand with the intention of introducing an alternate theory related to Wendy’s murder. Now, all these tactics were being employed so that a reasonable doubt could be created in the mind of the jury. Jax knew that she didn’t have to prove anything as long as she was able to discredit the prosecution’s narrative. So Robert Wilder told the court that Wendy had been struck on the head, which had led to her having a condition called cerebral edema. The expert stated that the concussion resulting from the blow to the head had contributed to her death, meaning that it could have been possible that Wendy had died before the gunshot was fired. Jax wanted to tell the jury that the fact that Wendy had been shot to death, something that the prosecution had contended, could not be proved beyond any reasonable doubt. The testimony did help the defendant’s cause, but then again, it was not so substantial as to turn the jury in their favor.
Who was Chelsea?
In the previous episode of Reasonable Doubt season 3, we had gotten to know that Eddie was hiding something from Jax. He told her about Mama Lu’s illness, but there was some other thing that Lewis wanted him to tell. I speculated in my article on the previous episode that he was probably still using drugs and had not gotten over his addiction as he had told everybody. But that was not what he was hiding. Actually, Eddie had a daughter, Chelsea, from another woman, i.e., Jax had a stepsister, and she didn’t know about it. This woman, Chelsea, had a criminal record, and she’d booked for petty crimes like theft in the past. From the conversation that Chelsea had with Eddie, it seemed like she wanted him to ask Jax for money and that was the real reason why he had gotten in touch with her in the first place. What she or Eddie needed money for wasn’t revealed, but they were in a desperate situation. In fact, Chelsea wanted to go and have a chat with Jax directly, but Eddie refrained from letting that happen. He knew that it was a delicate matter, and he wanted to handle it to the best of his capabilities.
What Deal Did Rosie Have With Alex?
The big revelation of Reasonable Doubt season 3 episode 8 was that Rosie, Ozzie’s mother, had made a deal with Alex, Ozzie’s colleague who was blackmailing him, for the longest time. In the previous episode, we saw that Alex was beaten so badly that he had to be admitted to the hospital. Daniel managed to get his hands on a video that Alex had on him. That video was of Wendy, and apparently her lover, the one with whom she had an affair, had recorded it. That was the evidence that Alex wanted to get to the journalist, but at the end, Kristin made sure that million-dollar deal didn’t happen. Rosie, Ozzie’s mother, accepted that she knew about that fact, but she hid it from the world to save her marriage. Rosie even testified in court, and without telling her husband, Sal, she took his name and told the jury that he was having an affair. What that meant was that Sal was thrown under the bus because, on account of that video, it could be presumed that he could have had a motive to kill Wendy. Even the prosecutor was unaware that Jax had a video on her and that Rosie was going to incriminate her own husband. Sal was extremely unhappy with what Rosie had done. From their conversations, it became clear that they had some sort of agreement, and Rosie, by taking his name in court, had betrayed his trust. Ozzie didn’t know what was happening in the family. His father had had an affair with his girlfriend, and he had no clue about it for the longest time. His family members were flipping over one card after the other, and it proved how dysfunctional they were and how they had no clue what was happening in each other’s lives. Ozzie sat at the dinner table, and he told his parents to tell him everything from the beginning. That’s when another twist came in the narrative: the face of the woman in the video had been edited, and it was not Wendy who was there in it. The truth was that Rosie had found out about Sal’s affair with his assistant, which lasted for almost 9 years. She took that video and asked Alex to modify it and put Wendy’s face on it because she wanted to prove to Ozzie that his girlfriend was an unfaithful person. That was the extent to which Rosie was willing to go to get her son to break up with Wendy. Obviously the next question Ozzie asked his mother was if she was the one who had often killed Wendy. Because if she could go to that extent, he believed she could even kill her. Rosie got angry, and she left the house.
At the end of Reasonable Doubt season 3 episode 8, Rosie gave a call to Jax, and in a very strange tone, she told him that after everything that had happened, she deep down felt that Ozzie could have killed Wendy. Ozzie had a nightmare, and he doubted his own limitations and actions. He asked Kristin if he could have killed Wendy, as if he didn’t remember what had happened that night and he was a bit unsure about what he had done. The murder mystery of Wendy’s murder case is more entangled than ever now. It seems as if everybody knows something that they are not telling others, and apart from the confusion that it is causing, it is making Jax and Bill’s job extremely difficult. It would be interesting to see what happens in the subsequent episodes since we are nearing the end of this season and if Jax is able to find out the truth.
