184 minutes is quite a long runtime for two episodes. It is longer than most movies today, but is it worth your time? I’ve never understood the appeal of dating shows, but I suppose I can’t always live in absolutes, so I can’t deny I did have fun watching some bits of these 184 minutes. It might’ve been rare, but enough for me to see some sort of appeal in this kind of show. What I didn’t like, though, is how much we’re forced to watch the hosts discuss what’s on the contestants’ minds. I mean, a little bit is fine, but they take up so much time; and a lot of the contestants just get left behind. It kind of creates a bias, you know? Then it leads everybody as an audience to the same choice. To be honest, at the start of episode 5, I realized very late that I had forgotten most of the contestants and their names. I don’t think Single’s Inferno should be watched weekly; it’s more of a binge-watch show. However, as we progressed, things got worse because two new people joined the show, adding more confusion to the mix. Anyway, with that said, I’ll jump straight into everything that went down in episodes 5 and 6.
Which Of The 3 Men Do The Girls Choose?
Ah, shame to admit that my gut feeling was wrong and the girls did not pick Heong Seong-Bo. Instead, they picked An Jong-Hoon. The 34-year-old won over more than half of the girls, but as the show progressed, he was forgotten when the girls went back into the Inferno. I thought it was really funny how the entirety of the first half of episode 5 was focused on him and how he’d disrupt the Inferno, but in truth, I don’t think he even makes a difference, at least as of now. I can’t say the same about the new girl in town, though, Park Hae-Lin. The 24-year-old acting student definitely made a dent with just her appearance as soon as she entered the Inferno with the boys. It seems her big eyes and height (though Hye-Jin is taller and Si-An might be as well) garnered a lot of attention. While the girls had one-on-one time with each of the three men and chose, here Hae-Lin got to choose between all the guys at once. Hae-Lin is very different from the rest of the girls, and you can already tell she’s going to be a bit of a handful. She’s energetic and very young; you can clearly tell from her style and the way she conducts herself. The other girls had a more traditional approach and seemed to take time to get to know people before opening up. But it is already Day 4, so I guess you gotta do the best you can with your time.
Hae-Lin chooses Jeong-Su (the popular guy) and Dong-Ho. Both men have different vibes, and Hae-Lin wants to explore the better fit. While Jeong-Su is more fun and more similar to her in terms of personality, Dong-Ho seems to have grabbed her attention because he is completely different from her. While she plays coy later when the girls try to get her to tell them who she feels more drawn to, I suppose you can tell early on it’s Dong-Ho. She even says Jeong-Su is her ideal type, physically, but Dong-Ho’s closer to her ideal personality type. On the other hand, Jong-Hoon takes Si-An and Hye-Jin to Paradise, but I can say I didn’t really see any sparks flying. I suppose the man is quite charming, but he’s a bit late to the party.
Single’s Inferno episodes 5 and 6 see Si-An as the most popular of the lot. We already loved her in the first 4 episodes with her bright personality and mature approach, but I also think she’s quite the girl’s girl (as much as the show wants us to believe such a concept doesn’t exist, it is a competition after all). Most shockingly, Si-An learns that Jun-Seo is also interested in her and has been wanting to talk to her for a while. At first, while they’re in the pool together, they play around a little bit, which makes Min-Seol very jealous, but Si-An is completely oblivious to Jun-Seo’s advances. She thinks they’re just friends. Oh, but at this time Jong-Hoon does treat Hye-Jin like a girlfriend by taking nice pictures of her, but really he’s brushed aside after this point. But hey, it’s all about editing, you know? Then during lunch in the Inferno, Theo (who we assumed would be the talk of the town), Jun-Seo, and Jong-Hoon all try to impress Si-An. Theo reminds Si-An that he’s only got eyes for her. Somehow, though, she keeps swaying to Jeong-Su. Can we just talk about how everybody except Lee Da-Hi is encouraging this very obvious red flag of a man? I get that the guy’s charming and handsome, but he clearly feels like a player, you know? Am I the only one who thinks so? Okay, fine. Finally, Jun-Seo gets to tell Si-An how he feels, and she’s shocked at first, but she definitely feels some sort of connection with him, which makes Hanhae and Kyuhun believe she’s going to give him a try too.
Who Does Si-An Choose?
While Dong-Ho does seem to be a little bit interested in Hae-Lin, his eyes are quite set on A-Rin. It is quite cute how A-Rin is so curious about everything they did and what they talked about. She’s made observations about how he was the one carrying Hae-Lin’s bag too, which everybody finds very adorable because, of course, being jealous is cute. Also, Ji-Yeon and Tae-Hwan finally get time to spend together, and they seem to be getting especially close, so you know who’s going to Paradise for sure. When they get back, Si-An gets a chance to have a word with Jeong-Su and learns that he “didn’t have fun” with Hae-Lin, which is obviously a lie. He could’ve just been honest with her while still reassuring her that she’s the one he’ll choose (if you can’t tell, I’ve got my biases too). I honestly quite like Si-An and Theo, but it seems that ship is not sailing any time soon.
Dong-Ho and A-Rin try to talk a little, but they keep getting interrupted. What’s worse is that Hae-Lin shows up and tells them to “be happy,” which just seems like a low blow in all honesty. I did say she gives off the youngest vibes, you know? Finally, for the fun part, we have a game of “knocking the cap off,” where the boys have to piggyback the girls and the girls have to knock each other’s caps off. This game was actually really fun to watch because, despite the overtly sexual shots and the double slow-motion replays, the game actually looked super fun. The couple (from picking the same color teams) that won this game are Dong-Ho and Si-An. They then get to choose one person to go on a date with. Si-An obviously chooses Jeong-Su, and she cheers hard when Dong-Ho chooses A-Rin. The two couples talk it out, and now Jeong-Su tells Si-An that he’s not really looking at any of the other girls, but he plays a little coy about it, which Dex claims is him not putting pressure on her (pfft, give me a break). At the same time, Dong-Ho and A-Rin finally get to talk, and it becomes clear that Dong-Ho still likes her, and she’s obviously overjoyed to get to spend time with him. Poor girl hasn’t gone to Paradise yet.
Now you’re wondering, where’s You-Jin? We hasn’t talked about her at all. But that’s because she’s barely in the two episodes, and even when she is, she’s borderline villainized (ugh). Last week everybody made her the outcast because she wasn’t in the best place. Anyway, she chooses Dong-Ho to go to Paradise with, which is a shocker to everybody, but he’s not going to know until she really tells him how she feels.
At the end of episode 6 of Single’s Inferno season 4, the men put in their tickets to Paradise, but the girls call out who they want to go with. The couples that do get to go are Ji-Yeon and Tae-Hwan, A-Rin and Dong-Ho, and Hye-Jin chooses Jong-Hoon, but he chooses Si-An, so that’s no match. Now you’re wondering who Si-An chose; the episode ends with Si-An choosing Jun-Seo, but it turns out 4 of the guys chose her too. Talk about being popular, eh? The preview of the next episode makes it look like something crazy is going to happen for the first time on “Single’s,” but I don’t think it will because this is just how they tease it. I do think we’ll see Si-An crying, though.
