‘Single’s Inferno’ Season 5 Episodes 8-10 Recap & Review: Is Mina-Sue The Gwan-Hee Of This Season?

Published

I’d say you’re living under a rock if you watch K-content and haven’t heard of the hit reality series Single’s Inferno. The show that rose to fame thanks to the very hot people it featured acting all shy and coy to get romantic. The irony in hot people struggling to find partners is what makes the show so fun to watch, in my opinion, at least. But this is not meant to be a class in anthropology. You’re here for a recap of the latest season’s shenanigans after all, specifically in episodes 8-10. Episodes 5-7 cemented the members of this cast as household names. We were finally able to tell people apart and point out their strengths and weaknesses. It became easy to choose people to hate and others to like. But is that all? Well, clearly not, because this season has the most shocking twists I’ve seen so far (from seasons 3 through 5). It’s really interesting to see people compare Mina to Gwan-Hee, but really, I feel like she gave off Si-An vibes. To be fair, you can’t really compare these people; each of them is their own person, and like Samuel, or Sung-Hun, said in this week’s episode, “love is self-service,” and that really hit home, considering the nature of this show. Guess they really wanted people to tone down the judgment, but with that said, let’s jump straight into episodes 8-10 of season 5 (each more than an hour and a half at that).

Who Does Mina Take To Paradise?

Episode 5 began with each of the girls picking someone to go to Paradise with. Ye-Jin and Ha-Eun didn’t get to go because they chose I-Geon and Jae-Jin, respectively, both of whom have their eyes set on other women, so it doesn’t work out. Joo-Young picks Hyun-Jae this time, because she wants to explore that connection, Go-Eun chooses Hyun-Woo, and Hee-Sun obviously chooses Su-Been. But the answer we were all awaiting is finally here, and finally, Mina chose Seung-Il. I think both of these people had to do this to get things out of the way and clear their minds, and that is how it worked for one of them at least. For the other, though, I really don’t know what to say. Anyway, to me it looked like Hyun-Woo was really just trying to make it clear to Go-Eun that he’s genuinely obsessed with her, but she didn’t seem to like it. I wish she had been more assertive about how she felt about him being so forward. I feel like that would’ve toned things down a little. The hair tuck seemed to have upset her the most, and he shouldn’t have done it to be honest, but I guess he assumed she was ready to be treated like his girlfriend, or that’s what he thought going to Paradise meant. But ultimately, he doesn’t impress her all that much; he doesn’t even sway her.

Meanwhile, Joo-Young and Hyun-Jae don’t seem to make progress either. I feel like she has her heart set on Jae-Jin, but she just wanted to see if there was a chance at all. Jae-Jin and Hyun-Jae have nothing in common at all. He works in IT, whereas the other guy is literally a contemporary dancer, but it’s lovely to see her explore such different options and follow her heart’s desire. But in typical fashion, the most absurd thing is how the show gets Su-Been and Hee-Sun to go on a double date with Mina and Seung-Il. For one, Hee-Sun also speaks English and studies at Carnegie Mellon, but also, she was born in 2003, making her one of the youngest, alongside Ha-Eun. Anyway, I wish Mina would act her age, considering she’s literally 6 years older than Hee-Sun. That’s literally my only issue right now. It’s totally fair to be jealous, but the way the show focuses on that part of her and makes it clear how jealous it makes her feel gives me so much second-hand embarrassment. I honestly thought she was cool when she first came in.

On the helicopter, Mina and Su-Been talk a lot, but Hee-Sun pretends it’s all okay. Later, they have a double date at a bowling alley, and it’s all a big mess, but to make matters worse, after it’s done, Mina keeps looking out of the window to get a look at the other couple, and she’s just making a fool of herself at this point. Finally, Seung-Il is the one who knocks some sense into her in their room, and it just feels like he’s lecturing her at this point despite being younger than her. Still, I didn’t see any romance here, so I don’t know why either of these people thought they needed to try things out with each other. Guess it’s nice to see them being straightforward.

What Does Min-Gee Tell Mina?

But as soon as they’re back in Inferno, Min-Gee decides to have a word with Mina instead of Seung-Il, because she wants to understand how to deal with this situation. Min-Gee is curious about Mina’s status, and Mina’s still bumbling around like a bear high on honey. It looks like she’s still not made up her mind, and Min-Gee simply tells her that she doesn’t know what she wants. This is offensive to Mina, apparently, and she fully breaks down after their conversation, but I think this is mainly because she probably feels like everyone is ganging up on her. Even the judges feel a little bad and apologize to her. I wonder how she must be feeling watching the show back now. But really, it’s Korean media editors who know just how to frame someone as a villain and how not to.

Who Wins The Girl’s Game?

Next thing you know, it’s time for the ladies to fight it out to take their men to Paradise. Mina is eager to play against Min-Gee, but she ends up in a group of 3 yet again. What kind of luck is this? Anyway, she doesn’t even make it to the final round, which is between Ye-Jin, Min-Gee, and Joo-Young. Joo-Young is really fierce, which surprises everybody, but the expected outcome is Min-Gee winning, and that is exactly what happens. But after all of this, Mina finally seems to have understood her mistakes and actually apologizes to Su-Been for her behaviour, especially about acting jealous, when clearly Hee-Sun and he are really cute. She promises not to be that way anymore.

Who Does Min-Gee Choose To Go To Paradise With?

The most shocking thing to come out of season 5 is Min-Gee not choosing Seung-Il to go to Paradise with, after he told her that he now knows there’s no one else. She also said she was the happiest with him, but there’s logic in her choice. She decides to try with Su-Been to see if she’ll miss Seung-Il and want to be with him again, or if she’ll feel differently. Turns out, Su-Been and her actually have way more in common, and though he’s not feeling it for her yet, there’s something interesting happening there for sure. Is this man getting popular, eh? But I don’t know how I feel about him, really. Also, they shared the bed (wut?), and Seung-Il was sitting there cribbing about them holding hands, funny. On the other hand, I-Geon is stuck on Go-Eun, and she’s still obsessed with Sung-Min. To be honest, I’m totally icked out by I-Geon, and I can’t seem to get past that, so I’m choosing to side with Sung-Min for Go-Eun. I was not laughing at the ice cream thing, were you? I’m also very bored with the conversation bits between Go-Eun and I-Geon; I don’t really feel it. On the other hand, Mina is so curious about Sung-Hun that she literally starts snooping around his bed. Girl, you literally brother-zoned him a couple of days ago. But to be fair, in this season, you really don’t know where things are going.

Who Wins The Boys’ Game?

In Single’s Inferno episode 10, the boys finally have a physical game that’s actually exhilarating to watch, but the results aren’t even that shocking. I-Geon is straight up the winner as the tallest and strongest guy there. A bit surprised Hyun-Woo wasn’t able to beat him, though, because he does look much more muscular, but he has had shoulder injuries, so that could be a reason why he couldn’t manage it. But also, I-Geon is a literal giant, so yeah. You already know that he chose Go-Eun, but because of that, Hyeon-Woo becomes the first person in Single’s history to forfeit a trip to Paradise (wowza), and finally, Hyun-Jae chooses Joo-Young again.

The ending of episode 10 sees I-Geon and Go-Eun getting super cozy in the swimming pool. The man really seems ready to jump her, just as Da-Hee says, and I’m saying this again but I couldn’t be more icked out, but hey, please don’t come at me. He’s just not it for me, okay?  But do go off in the comments if you think they’re a good pairing. I have a feeling something controversial is going to happen in the next episode, but we’ll have to wait a whole week to see the finale. Which is a couple you’re certain will end up together? I bet Jae-Jin and Joo-Young, though I’m a little disappointed we’re not getting more of Jae-Jin’s shenanigans because he’s so quiet.
