Survival Of The Thickest season 2’s ending suggests that Mavis has finally forgiven Luca and might give him another chance. The 8-part second season of the highly addictive and super genuine Survival Of The Thickest is easy to devour and yet still stays on your mind long after it’s over. The show is so fun and free that it just makes you wish there was more. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, so here we are. At least this leaves room for another season of fashion, sex, and friendship that we can all be excited for. A lot changes in the final episode of season 2, some for the good and some surprises leaving us more than a little bit excited for what might come next. But with all that said, let’s jump straight into the ending of season 2 to learn what might come next for Mavis and her friends.
Spoiler Alert
How Will Mavis Save Her Name?
In Survival Of The Thickest season 2 finale, Mavis fumbles a podcast appearance by making it seem like she made a scene at the Charles Renee show only for clout. This leaves people hating on her, so she has no clothes for her boutique, nor does she have any clients. However, she’s running out of time and has already run out of money, so what can she do to fix her mistake? Collaborate apparently. It is actually Nala, the intern/assistant/whatever else you want to call her, who came up with the idea of collaborating with the man himself, Charles Renee. This makes full sense because it would solve both their problems: Mavis’ situation because of the podcast and Charles’ boycott. It would be a win-win situation, but for that, she needs to get Charles on board. So Mavis decides to get her friends to help her, and they come up with a plan together.
Mavis gets Khalil to make a painting for her, which is culturally rich. She then uses one of Charles’ basic silhouettes and switches it up by adding Khalil’s painting as a print clash on the dress, creating something unique and plus-size friendly, too, because it’s in her size. Mavis then invites Charles to Simone’s studio and asks him for just a few minutes because she thinks she can help them both. She then makes a presentation, reminding him how he genuinely cared because he dressed his plus-sized sister back in the day before he became a designer who adhered to thin fashion sizes. I guess this strikes the right chords because Charles is impressed, and when Mavis shows him the dress, he too believes they can do something together to change the industry. While this change can’t happen overnight, at least they’ve made a step in the right direction.
“We aren’t just the moment; we are the movement” is the catchphrase Mavis comes up with during the showcase event of the dress. Now that the duo are partners, everything seems to have settled down, and finally, some genuine good might be coming out of this whole situation. This means Mavis’ career is going to take off now.
What Happens With Khalil?
Khalil decides that he’s losing his identity by having his paintings sold to old white folks. He tells Simone that while he wants to sell his art, he doesn’t want it to go to white men who may not necessarily understand them. Khalil basically doesn’t want to lose himself to money, so he tells Simone that he’ll sell somewhere else. Simone tells him that those are her clients, so she can’t really do anything about it, but now that they aren’t working together, this leaves room for other stuff, i.e., for them to get romantically involved (finally). I also think that with the collaboration with Charles, Khalil might just blow up in a whole new way, making room for just what he needs in the art space.
Are Marley and Daphne still a thing?
To be with Daphne, Marley has to hide her true bold identity. Her “image” issues are something that Daphne’s team thinks can be fixed with her going from luxury Barbie to Walmart Barbie, but this is, of course, not going to change anything. In the final episode, Daphne realizes that having a rich girlfriend doesn’t make her look elitist, especially when the woman has risen up the ranks all by herself and put herself in that position at the top. Now, Marley will get to go on her mayoral campaign. This means they’re the real deal, and I see a wedding coming up in the next season.
Will Mavis and Luca get back together?
In Survival Of The Thickest season 2’s ending , Mavis lets Luca in her taxi (no innuendo intended). I guess the dream from the beginning of the episode helped her realize she was genuinely missing the guy and could forgive him, seeing as he moved all the way to New York to be with her. Sure, Mavis told him to get in the taxi because they were going in the same direction, but there’s one detail that might either break them up for real or lead them to take the next step real soon, and that is having a baby. Earlier in the episode, when Khalil was at Mavis’, he found out that she’d been to the fertility clinic. Having a false pregnancy alarm made Mavis realize she wants a baby, and I personally think she would choose a baby over a life with Luca, so we’ll see how that turns out.
What Can We Expect From Season 3?
As I mentioned earlier, Mavis’ focus now is really going to be on having a baby, because she wants to be a mom, and then looking after this baby. With how Mavis’ career might’ve just taken off, she needs to figure out how she’ll look after her kid. To deal with Luca in the middle of that seems to be a bit difficult, but since he genuinely wants to be a part of her life, it’s possible he himself will offer to have a kid with Mavis, which could lead to a potential wedding, yeah? I’m just glad Jacques didn’t show up in season 2. Natasha might make a cameo next season, but I have a feeling we’re going to get a new high-fashion client for Mavis. Additionally, that special cameo by Anderson Paak was something, so we can expect many more of those. On the other hand, Marley and Khalil both have a good thing going for them (individually), so I’m hoping there won’t be any problems there because I quite enjoy both of these pairings.
While season 2 focused on Mavis trying to deal with heartbreak, I think in season 3, we will get to see a baby for Mavis and possibly Lucas. On the other hand, some serious relationships for all 3 members of the gang. Finally, Mavis might end up having a profitable business.
