The author of the Culpable series has teamed up with Prime for yet another book series of hers to be adapted into movies. I’m not sure why these are so popular, but the fact that there isn’t much of a difference in the romances is honestly quite annoying. Sure, this particular toxic relationship is in a love triangle, and the other one is between stepsiblings, but at the end of the day, they’re both toxic, and that’s what they’re so popular for. Tell Me Softly is the starting point of another trilogy. I have a feeling this one isn’t going to be as popular as the Culpable series, because I had heard nothing about it before I watched it, specifically for work. The movie follows Kamila, a rich, some would say brat, who lives in a controlled environment and has a seemingly perfect life until, on the day school starts back up again, her old neighbors from 7 years ago have suddenly returned without warning. The conflict is that something happened with these neighbors, the Di Bianco brothers. What’s with these brothers? Why does Kamila have such a reaction to them? And who will she choose? Let’s find out in Tell Me Softly.
Spoiler Alert
What Happens at the Tournament?
Somehow, it’s okay that Thiago is a teacher’s assistant and still lusting after a student he’s meant to be educating. I guess it’s fine because they used to know each other when they were young and were obsessed with each other back then, until everything went wrong. At the basketball tournament, Kamila decides to hang out with Jules, a fellow classmate, Cata’s, half-brother. It’s very obvious Kamila isn’t interested in this boy at all, but he seems eager to get together with her. Kamila ends up agreeing to watch a movie with him in his room, specifically because she’s upset about the brothers. Thiago obviously wants Taylor to stay away from her. Jules gives Kamila a beer because he’s got nothing else and because she’s upset and vulnerable she takes it. However, she wakes up the next day hungover and with nobody by her side. Clearly, this was a plan Cata came up with to sabotage Kamala. How can a story like this exist without woman-on-woman rivalry? Of course, everybody is obsessed with the two brothers. Cata’s clearly jealous of Kamila, and though she tells her to stay away from her half-brother, Jules continues to ask her to hang out, and it’s possible that Cata used this to her advantage. But more importantly, when Kamila does show up to do the cheerleading routine, everyone’s upset because she’s the main act, getting lifted at the end of the show.
Cata makes sure the other girls drop Kamila when she does a flip in the air, making her the focus o f the failure of the whole thing. Of course, this works against Cata’s plan, because both brothers become significantly concerned about Kamila. I suppose we’ll get closure for this sabotage in the next film, but for now, there are no consequences for Cata; it’s just Kamila and Taylor who get to spend time together in the room (can we talk about how lovely the rooms are, though?). But I do hope Jules didn’t take advantage of Kamila when she was drunk because that would be some really annoying trope-y storytelling. Anyway, Taylor agrees to stay with Kamila, and this immediately leads to them getting together in bed. But as soon as things get steamy, Kamila starts to see Thiago. Also, didn’t this girl literally just have a concussion? (I’m only exaggerating, but you know what I mean?) Anyway, this makes her realize what she’s doing is wrong, and she quickly tells Taylor that she’s feeling a little under the weather. But additionally, Taylor tells Kamila that “it” wasn’t her fault before she tells him to leave her alone for a bit.
What Does Thiago Blame Kamila For?
Tell Me Softly’s ending reveals to us that when the kids were young, there was a massive car accident. Now, Kamila and Thiago had seen Thiago’s father with another woman, and he’d asked Kamila to promise not to tell anyone about it. But somehow their mother found out, and at this time, Kamila’s own mother is seen apologizing to her husband. This is the bit that doesn’t make sense to me. I wonder if it means Kamila’s mother was having an affair with Thiago’s father, which is what is making him so upset. But the woman in the car wasn’t her. However, this is when Thiago’s mom drove off with her 3 kids, not two. It wasn’t just the brothers; there was also a sister named Lucia. Unfortunately, while driving off from the house, Chiara, Thiago’s mother, ended up driving off a bridge when she saw a stag. While she and the boys made it out, Lucia didn’t, despite Thiago’s desperate attempts at trying to save her. This is obviously some crazy trauma to go through as a kid, and I guess Thiago blames Kamila because she might’ve let it slip about the affair. Maybe she told her mom, which was why the whole thing was such a mess. Nothing is certain except that a girl died, and that’s why all three kids are terribly traumatized. Additionally, Kamila cycled after the family and watched everything go down; that’s why she’s messed up, too.
But at the end of the film, Thiago’s mother makes him realize that Kamila is not to blame; it was all her fault that Lucia died, and he should stop blaming the girl. But despite feeling let down by Kamila, Thiago admits to her that he loves her and asks her to tell him softly that she loves him too. But again, just as things are going far, Kamila stops herself. Before she can explain, Thiago can already tell it’s because of Taylor. Now, we know that Taylor’s always been in love with Kamila, but she’s clearly more into the older brother. However, she does care about Taylor. Taylor did always get the backseat back when they were younger too. But the movie ends with Taylor having a renewed zeal to win Kamila back, I think. It looks like there’s going to be a heated rivalry between the two brothers, and we have to wait to find out who Kamila chooses (I’m sure it’s going to be the big brother, despite how flawed that is). Oh, right, another The Summer I Turned Pretty situation.
What Can We Expect From the Sequel?
We’re still to find out what really went down with the parents and what made Chiara lose her mind that day. Why did Kamila’s mom get involved? And was the girl really to blame, or did she really break her promise? Additionally, the Cata and Jules situation hasn’t miraculously gone away. There’s a chance there’ll be new characters to trouble Kamila, but at the end of the day, she’s always going to be the one in trouble. At the moment, it appears to me that Taylor’s the better brother for Kamila. I guess there’s a “secret” love there, so maybe the second film will focus on Taylor and Kamila. But tell us in the comments below if you’ve read the books and know what’s coming for us.
