‘The Accident’ Season 2 Episodes 1-6 Recap: Is Lupita Dead?

Published

It has been a year since the tragic bounce house accident that took the lives of three innocent kids. In The Accident season 2, we discover that the hot-tempered Charro had pleaded not guilty for the murders of Moncho and Barroso. He was hopeful that due to a lack of evidence he would be declared innocent, but unfortunately things didn’t go the way he’d planned. He was sentenced to sixty years imprisonment, and as expected, Charro wasn’t ready to simply accept his fate. He came up with an elaborate plan: he started a riot in the prison, used it as a distraction to stab Emiliano, and also successfully broke out. So, who helped Charro escape? And what was his plan for the future? Let’s find out.

Spoiler Alert

Who helped Charro escape from prison?

After Charro was sentenced to sixty years in prison, it was somewhat expected that he would go to extreme lengths to find a way out. But before he left, he wanted to make sure he got rid of Emiliano. He stabbed him with a stake to remind him of his failure to protect their children. He’d assumed Emiliano would bleed to death, but he survived. Daniela suspected Charro would attack her husband in the chaos, and perhaps it was her promptness that ultimately helped save her husband. Since Emiliano had repented for his mistakes and clearly his life was under threat behind bars, the court allowed him to return home on parole. Meanwhile, Charro ended up staying at his ex-partner, Tamara’s place. As it turned out, Tamara had helped Charro escape. They had a child together, Chelita, but Charro dedicated all his time and energy to his son, Gabito, and Lupita. It was evident that Tamara despised Lupita, because she was the one who’d taught Lupita the ways of the world, and yet she’d backstabbed her and stole Charro. Tamara expected Charro to finally realize who was worthy of his affection after she helped him, but Charro just couldn’t let go of Lupita. After he escaped from prison, he discovered that Lupita had been cheating on him with his lawyer, Ulises. He figured that Lupita wanted him to rot in prison, and that was enough reason for him to turn vengeful. Tamara added fuel to his rage, and together they planned on bringing Lupita down.

During season 2’s ending, when Daniela confronted Tamara and demanded to know who had helped her plan the prison escape, she mentioned that Santos, a police officer and Daniela’s senior, was also involved. She’d bribed him to execute the plan. Also, we find out that Santos was a pedophile and Tamara had video evidence that she’d threatened to use against him. So, it wasn’t just the cash but also the blackmail that compelled him to help Charro. When Daniela confronted him, Santos immediately pointed his gun at her. She begged him to shoot her already, because she was tired of living with the constant pain after she lost her son. Santos couldn’t pull the trigger; he requested Daniela to let him quit the police force or ask for retirement. But at the end of the day, Santos didn’t deserve a dignified exit from his job, so Daniela had him arrested. Since there were already videos of him with minors, along with his confession to Daniela, it is safe to assume that Santos was punished.

How did Charro find out the truth about Lupita?

Charro was a proud man, and the fact that he refused to accept his involvement in the killing of Moncho and Barroso made Daniela wonder if he was truly innocent. Charro too was determined to find out who’d framed him for the murder and make them pay. Charro and Lupita’s son, Alex, overheard Lupita discuss her involvement in the murders with Ulises. He ended up disclosing the truth to Charro, because he thought that whatever his mother did was unfair. He was aware that his father wasn’t a great person, but he never expected his mother to be a killer. Alex wondered if he too would turn out like his parents, and the fear started to haunt him. While his father wasn’t involved in the deaths of Moncho and Barroso, there was no denying that he had murdered David and had him buried at the construction site in season 1. Alex begged Charro to not go after his mother and instead target Ulises, who he believed had convinced her to commit the crimes.

Why did Lupita kill Charro?

Tamara and Charro had planned a grand confrontation. Tamara had shown interest in partnering with Lupita and starting a casino business at the construction site that had been in the news after David’s body was discovered. Tamara had convinced Lupita and Ulises to come to a spot to sign the contract, but Lupita soon discovered that it was a trap when Charro showed up. She had her doubts about Tamara, but she chose to ignore her intuition for the sake of her business.

Lupita begged Charro to prioritize his family over his need for revenge. She admitted that she had made mistakes, but she hoped he could look past it for the sake of Alex. Meanwhile, Alex contacted Daniela and begged her to save his mother from Tamara and Charro. Emiliano had been keeping track of Lupita and Ulises. He’d already hacked into Ulises’ phone and had evidence suggesting that Lupita was involved in the murder of Moncho and Barroso. He was curious about the meeting that Lupita and Ulises had planned, and he feared that Charro might be present at the scene. So, Emiliano risked his life and arrived at the meeting spot. When Charro started having second thoughts about getting rid of Lupita, Tamara was furious. She reminded him how she’d betrayed him, but Charro struggled to pull the trigger on her. He shot Ulises instead. Tamara figured that Charro didn’t have the courage to seek revenge on Lupita, so he decided to walk away.

Charro’s prison mate held Emiliano at gunpoint, meanwhile one of Lupita’s bodyguards arrived in a car, and Lupita managed to climb into it. Charro followed her. Emiliano managed to tackle Charro’s right-hand man, and he called for help after he found Ulises unconscious. After an intense car chase, Lupita’s vehicle rolled over. She somehow managed to crawl out of the car, and immediately Charro grabbed hold of her. He wanted to kill her; he knew she deserved it, but he loved her, and he couldn’t just watch her die. Suddenly, Emiliano showed up at the scene and asked Charro to let go of Lupita. Charro had been wanting to kill Emiliano since the day he discovered that he was responsible for Gabito’s death, and he figured this was the perfect opportunity. Charro pulled the trigger, but to his surprise, there were no bullets left. Emiliano was tired of Charro’s notorious schemes. He called him a ‘plague’ to his family, and he strongly believed that the world would be a better place without Charro in it. This time, Emiliano chose not to hold back his rage, and he shot Charro. But he immediately regretted his actions and decided to call for help.

In The Accident season 2’s ending, Lupita choked Charro to death. She believed that as long as Charro lived, he would destroy everything around him. Of course, Emiliano had made a terrible mistake, and he felt guilty for his negligence, but instead of trying to overcome the tragedy as a family, Charro chose violence. He preferred burning the world down to finding some peace. Lupita too wasn’t innocent; she thrived on revenge, but ultimately seeing how their need for blood had torn apart their family, she realized that they were the problems. So, Lupita killed him and stayed beside his dead body until the cops showed up. She was arrested and produced in court, but there wasn’t sufficient evidence against her. Ulises survived, and he took to the stand to testify against Lupita, but since he had been involved with her, his testimony wasn’t considered completely reliable. Just when Lupita thought she would manage to escape a prison sentence, her son, Alex, testified against her. He had overheard Lupita and Ulises’ conversation, and when he’d confronted her, she’d admitted to the crimes. Since Alex didn’t really have any vested interest or vengeful reasons to speak against her, his testimony was considered valid. Lupita was sentenced to 75 years of imprisonment.

How Did Lupita Die?

Lupita had been so caught up with seeking revenge and covering up her crimes that she never really got the chance to mourn the death of her son. It was after she was sentenced to life imprisonment that she finally had the time to soak in her emotions. She knew it was all over, but at the same time, she wasn’t completely devastated. She was well aware that this had been a long time coming, and that she couldn’t always be lucky.

Alex later met Lupita in prison; he apologized for testifying against his mother. He strongly believed that someone had to put an end to the madness, and he figured it was time he did the right thing. Alex perhaps feared that if he chose to keep the secrets buried, he too would be an accomplice in the mess that his parents were involved in. While they chose to make morally dubious decisions and had convinced themselves that they did it for their family, Alex knew that he couldn’t fall into the same trap, he had to stand for what was right. Lupita didn’t hold any grudge against him. She was glad that he chose to side with the truth even though she knew it must have been an extremely heartbreaking decision for him. She wanted him to know that all she wanted was to provide her son with the best life, but she admitted that she’d messed it up. She hoped that her son wouldn’t let the mistakes of his parents define him, and she stated that no matter where she was, she would always be proud of her son.

Moncho’s wife, Yola, visited Lupita in prison. Lupita didn’t have much to say to her. Yola simply wanted to see Lupita in prison for her own satisfaction. She left Lupita a bar of chocolate and added that it wasn’t poisoned, because she wanted Lupita to rot in prison. The ending of The Accident season 2 suggests that Lupita believed Yola and had the chocolate bar, and as it turned out, the chocolate was indeed poisoned! Or perhaps Lupita figured that it was poisoned, and she chose to end her life by consuming it. Yola wanted to avenge her husband, so she poisoned Lupita the same way she’d killed Moncho. Revenge was finally served, and Yola left town with her children. She knew that the cops would search for her, since she was the last person who’d visited Lupita before she died, so running away was her only option. Even if Yola gets caught, she will perhaps find comfort in the thought that she at least avenged her husband.

How did the parents learn to cope with the tragedy?

The Accident season 2 is mostly about how the families of the deceased children coped with the loss. While Charro and Lupita got involved in revenge and murder, others like Daniela and Emiliano tried to find a way to get back to their old lives while accepting the absence of their son. Daniela at first struggled with the idea of living with Emiliano again, but gradually they realized that they were still in love. The tragedy and Emiliano’s negligence affect their marriage to an extent, but they ultimately choose to cope with the loss together. Emiliano had constant nightmares, but with time, he tried to find acceptance. He had realized that blaming himself wouldn’t ease his pain; instead, he had to find a way to live with his conscience, and every day he tried to forgive himself. Daniela realized that instead of trying to just hide her feelings, she needed to accept them. She chose to write letters to her son every day, describing every little detail of her life. This was her way of ensuring that he still continued to be a part of their lives.

After everything he’d been through, Alex decided to leave for Spain. He had always wanted to run away with Lucia, but the sudden desire to find himself made him travel solo. Brenda, who’d recently given birth, had named her son Mateo, even though Javier was completely against it. He didn’t want their newborn to be burdened with the expectation of being exactly like Mateo, whom they’d lost in the accident. During the ending of The Accident season 2, Brenda finally started taking therapy, and it helped her cope with the loss of Mateo. This drastically improved her relationship with Javier, and they were finally ready to move on from the tragedy and welcome their son into their lives. The incident had left an impossible dent in the lives of the families of the victims, and with time they’d come to realize that they couldn’t just forget about the ones they lost, and the only way to move forward was by acknowledging and accepting the absence and the agony.
