The ending of Netflix’s The Asset suggests that the story of Tea Lind and Ashley is far from being over. [Spoiler Alert] There was a time when Ashley considered Tea (or Sara) one of her closest friends, but as soon as she found out that Sara was working for the police, Ashley refused to see her face again. In the season 1 finale, Tea convinced Ashley to become a state witness so that police would have enough evidence to arrest her partner, Miran, who ran a drug trafficking syndicate in Copenhagen. The child protective services had taken away their daughter, Sofia, and Ashley was ready to do anything to get her daughter back. When Miran found out that Ashley had talked to the police, he knew that they would be arriving at his doorstep soon to make an arrest. He tried to run, but Tea told him that he wouldn’t be able to hide forever, and the only way to make things right was to surrender. Miran took all the blame so that Ashley and Sofia could live a decent life away from his dark shadows. But it turned out, Ashley was in no mood to let go of her luxury lifestyle and, most importantly, her ambitions. All this while, she had been a puppet in Miran’s hand, but now she wanted to take charge. In season 1’s closing shot, Ashley came across the drugs that Miran had imported from overseas, with MØ’s “Keep It Moving” playing in the background. Here Ashley has two choices with her. She can either hand over the drugs to PET or use the drugs to build an empire of her own. In my opinion, the first choice isn’t that fun because then it will leave Ashley no other option but to go back to her normal life. However, if she decides to sell the drugs herself, then we are talking about some interesting setup for The Asset season 2. So with that theory in mind, allow me to speculate everything we can expect in the next season. But before moving, it is to be noted that the show hasn’t yet been renewed by the streaming platform.
Ashley Will Lead An Empire
So first thing first, Miran’s right-hand man, Niko, knows that Miran has hidden the drugs somewhere because the shipment arrived in front of him. In fact, Niko was the one who brought it to Miran. However, what we don’t know is if Miran hid the drugs in the storage container on his own, or if Niko knows about it too. Because if Niko doesn’t know its exact whereabouts, then there’s no way Miran can tell him, as he’s under constant surveillance in police custody. And even if Niko knows the location of the drugs, he doesn’t have the key to open the storage container. What I am trying to say here is that Ashley can leverage this knowledge to force Niko to either make her a partner or give her a percentage of the profits. Additionally, we still don’t know what Miran’s father actually does. It’s possible that he’s involved in the shady business too, and with Miran behind bars, Niko is now taking orders from Miran’s father. And if that’s true, then it’s her father-in-law that Ashley will have to deal with rather than anyone else. This brings me to the possibility that if anything happens to Miran’s father in the subsequent season, then it is Ashley who will take up the reins of the family business and, with Niko by her side, will run a syndicate of her own to prove to the world what she’s really capable of. We know that Ashley used to smuggle money for Miran to buy drugs, which means she’s aware of the business operation, but to what extent, we don’t know. It’s obvious that she knows more than what she told the police. And someone like Ashley, who has been so eagerly looking for a chance to rise up in life, won’t miss the opportunity that has knocked on her doorstep. But mind you, she’s not getting involved in some righteous profession. She’s going to become a drug dealer, and no matter what her reasons might be to choose such a profession, we all know how it is going to end eventually.
Tea Will Join PET
The way two assailants ambushed Tea while she was in the car with her former colleague Yasin made it obvious that these shooters had been following her for a long time and they waited for the right moment for Yasin to stop the car at the signal when they finally opened fire on Tea. But it is to be noted that they didn’t kill Tea even if they had a chance to do so, which meant whoever was sent to attack Tea only wanted to send her a message. Now, there can be multiple theories on who ordered the hit on Tea. It can be Niko, working under the orders of Miran or his father. They both had reasons to exact revenge from Tea for bringing down their well-established empire. However, if it was Miran, then we could understand the reason why he didn’t order to finish tea because that was not how he operated. If you remember, at the beginning of the show, Miran was quite furious when he found out that his younger Bambi orchestrated the death of a PET snitch inside the gang. It was because of this incident that Miran was no longer able to smuggle the money out of the country to import the drugs for his partners. And if Miran learned from his arrest then it was that one should never break the rules that they lived by. In the show’s ending, Miran, seeking revenge, killed his brother’s killer, Erik, which eventually led to his downfall. Hence, it could be possible that if Miran was the one who had ordered the hit on Tea, then he intentionally instructed them not to kill her so things couldn’t be traced back to him. And the same theory applies to Miran’s father or Niko, if they were the ones who sent those shooters. A second possibility is that the shooters were hired by Miran’s partners, to whom he owed the drugs, because with Miran in prison, there’s no way they will be getting their consignment anytime soon, and therefore they decided to make Tea pay for their losses. And last but not least, it’s possible that the hit was ordered by PET itself, under the command of Folke and his senior, Jensen. The reason I believe it could be Folke or Jensen is because PET had offered Tea a job at the special crimes unit, but she turned down the request, as she didn’t want to play with people’s emotions and betray them so that a handful of people could celebrate their victory. But you see, Tea knew a lot. How PET operated, and how low they could stoop to get what they wanted. What Folke and Jensen did with Ashley’s daughter was in no way legal. They blackmailed a mother to become a witness so that they could arrest her husband, and Tea knew about it all. It’s possible that Folke and Jensen feared that Tea would someday talk to a reporter or expose their illicit practices, because of which they would not only lose their jobs but also would have to let Miran go, and therefore, to make sure Tea kept her mouth shut, they took such a drastic step. Now one could theorize that Folke just wanted to scare Tea so that she didn’t have any other option but to join PET for her own safety and her mother’s. I believe in the second season 2, Tea will take Yasin’s advice and become a part of the special crimes unit so she can investigate the attack and find out the culprits behind it.
Tea vs. Ashley
The Asset season 1’s ending does hint at the possibility that Tea and Ashley will once again cross paths in the near future, but this time, not as friends, but as enemies. If Ashley decides to lead a drug trafficking business, then she will come in direct conflict with Tea and PET, and this time around, Tea’s hands will be tied to gather evidence against Ashley and put her behind bars for breaking the law. In season 1, Tea went against her seniors as she felt responsible for Ashley and believed in her innocence, but if Ashley consciously chooses a criminal life for herself, then Tea no longer will be obliged to protect her. And I am just shooting in the dark here, but I feel at the end of season 2, when both Ashley and Miran are behind bars or dead, Tea will adopt their daughter, Sofia, so she can give her the life she truly deserved. Tea herself grew up around an alcoholic mother that pushed her to become an addict too. And for someone who had seen such horrors in their life, they wouldn’t wish for such a life for anyone else, which convinces me to say that Tea would be a better mother to Sofia than Ashley ever could be. Well, these are my theories of what can happen in Netflix’s The Asset Season 2, but if you have anything to add, feel free to comment below.
