‘The Believers’ Season 3 Theories: Will Ekachai Be The Main Character?

Published

The Believers returned in its second season just this month, giving us exactly what we predicted. But the second season was somehow way more entertaining than the first, because it felt more focused on one thing rather than hitting us with 3-4 subplots that don’t have much to give. The second season ended with a shocking twist that nobody saw coming. I mean, Dear was probably my favorite character on the show, and she’s literally the only important female character outside of Ae, who is a villain, so why get rid of her? Win was already on his deathbed; he could’ve easily been the one to die. It would’ve left room for Dol and Dear to have their love story, and Game to go help his family, because, truth be told, everyone is in this mess because of Win. This is not me trying to say Win deserved to die, but if I really had to choose one character to get rid of, it’d have been Win. But no, we lost the most special character, Dear, who was finally doing something for herself, who broke out of this cage and found herself free to live a normal life. But instead, Win brought her back into the world of crime one last time, and that was the end of her. The ending of The Believers season 2 makes me want to stay away from season 3; however, because I genuinely enjoyed the rest of the season, I would like to give it a chance anyway. But with that said, let’s jump into some theories about what we can expect from season 3.

Spoiler Alert

Ekachai Will Be The Lead

In The Believers season 1, Ekachai was a main character, but we might’ve forgotten about him a little bit because of the 3 leads who were the main focus of our attention. To be honest, I’d forgotten about Ekachai’s plotline from last season, and whenever we got to his bits in season 2, I didn’t quite care about what he was doing, but then I realized that the woman who was blackmailing him was probably doing so because she knew he was poisoning the previous abbot. Ekachai is a monk, but nothing about him is quite monk-like. Even watching him work out makes it feel like he’s got bigger plans; he doesn’t really seem to believe in leaving behind worldly attachments. But then he did help Dear and Dol with the documents from the abbot’s folders. I wonder if he’s going to use the copies he saved to blackmail the other monks.

To be fair, Ekachai isn’t the only monk who wants to achieve something. Corruption is abundant in this temple system, and though he gets named the abbot at the end of the season, the other monks plan on keeping him on a leash by using the video of him choking the woman as blackmail. Ekachai seems to be unsurprised by this revelation, maybe because he’s got something up his own sleeve. In the ending of the show, the camera zooms in on Ekachai’s face directly. This is a clear indicator that the next season will majorly focus on him, probably his past and what he’s planning with his power gain. Ekachai’s goal has always been to get to the top. I mean, one could argue that this was his end goal, but that’s clearly not it. But on the other hand, he’s talking about investing in stocks, so I don’t know about you, but I definitely feel like he’s going to embezzle more money now that the bank account’s been unfrozen.

What will Win and Game do?

Dear’s death has definitely affected Win and Game. She wasn’t just their business partner; she was their friend too, and seeing how things turned sour because of them, there’s a chance they’ll want revenge, though they’re finally free to do what they like. Once you’ve tasted the world of crime, there’s a chance you’ll struggle to get out of it. I think this is how things are going to end up for Win and Game, too. Additionally, they’ve got Wut arrested, but what if the man, who is a politician, will easily free himself as expected? Again, they’ll be stuck in a trap that will be hard to escape. With these two, there is a chance they’ll end up messing up again, despite finally getting a free pass. Though I do feel there’s a chance they end up taking the back seat while we focus on Ekachai.

Ae Will Make A Big Return

The ending of the season saw Ae leave the country, which means she’s going to come back for revenge, too. We need more of an insight into Ae’s character, in my opinion. The only thing we know is that she just wanted to impress her father. She did want to build a hospital. Currently, we know that the temple wants Ekachai to restart the hospital work, and we also know they have the money, too. So Ae will likely come back for what she thinks is rightfully hers. Additionally, I can’t tell if she’ll help her father because she genuinely wants to or simply to blackmail him. I feel the latter is more likely. Whichever it is, she will definitely come back for Win and Game, which means there will be one big fight somewhere near the end of the third season.

What About Dol And Win’s Dad?

I personally don’t think there’s a need to introduce more characters. Already, the show is quite complicated; however, another female character would be interesting to see. It seems Dol has returned to his monkhood because Dear’s dead, and that means the only reason for him having given it up is gone. On the other hand, there’s a chance Win’s dad is feeling better now and might come back with an actual role in the next season. In that case, we’ll learn more about the past with Wut and him and about what they were trying to do with the temples 18 years ago.
