The Boys: Internment Camps, Explained – Why Sage And Homelander Want Tek Knight’s Prisons?

Published

I guess the audience base for The Boys is broadly divided into two categories: those who enjoy Homelander and Butcher’s rivalry and those who love the political commentary the show has to offer. There might be a third category, too, who can enjoy the show without taking sides. I mean, for me personally, I love how the show connects the dots with our ongoing reality without making it obvious. Take the sixth episode, for example. It dropped the phrase “internment camps,” which is just another name for concentration camps, and versions of such prisons exist in this day and age in several parts of the world. [Spoiler Alert] The episode revealed that Homelander and Sister Sage had been planning a coup. They teamed up with the White supremacist, Tek Knight, so that they could use his influence to take over the United States of America.

The episode didn’t clearly explain what these supes are up to, but I think that horrified look on Annie’s face communicated a sense of impending danger. So, a person like a Homelander wouldn’t mind squashing a person’s head if they don’t align with his political ideologies, right? And Sage and Homelander were trying to convince the bureaucrats to join their band so that they could throw Robert Singer out of his office and replace him with one of their own, someone like Victoria Neuman. But that woman, even though she is a supe, isn’t a murderous psychopath who will go on killing people. Annie knows Neuman well, which is why she raises a question at the end of the episode about whether Neuman really knows about internment camps. I think she doesn’t. She has her own interest in helping Homelander, but she doesn’t know the whole picture. And Sage might have warned Homelander not to go gaga over their secret plan; otherwise, it would end prematurely. So, the question here is: why does Homelander need internment camps?

You see, Homelander really hates the idea of democracy. He believes that common folks (especially those without superpowers) are incapable of making important decisions in life, like choosing their leader. They need someone mighty and powerful, a God-like entity to lead them into a better future, like Caesar. But I think he is most inspired by Hitler and yearns for a regime like that of the mass-murdering dictator. Yes, Sister Sage cautiously asked him not to use that name in the media or in public, as it would only lead to some bad PR. But his heart’s desire is to turn America into something like Nazi Germany, where anyone who raises a voice against Homelander or tries to defy his orders will end up in the internment camps. And if you want some names to cut the ribbon, we already have a list. I guess Hughie, Annie, MM, and the entire The Boys team, along with their families, will be put in those camps for reasons that are pretty apparent. Maybe Frenchie knew the future; that’s why he turned himself in already (that’s a joke). But you have to understand that internment camps aren’t the end of Homelander’s plan. It is just a small step towards world domination. Additionally, you have already witnessed Homelander’s true face in episode 4, right? When no one is looking, Homelander doesn’t mind showing his psychotic side. I want to say that he isn’t the kind of person who takes prisoners alive. He sees humans as rodents and he intends to get rid of them, and that’s the next step in his book, “How to Become a Dictator.” So, the obvious question now is, will anyone be able to stop him?

To be honest, I think we all know how it is going to end. Homelander can’t be locked down. He can’t be reasoned with, and he won’t die soon because of his superpowers. So, in the end, one has to take Butcher’s route and kill Homelander in the most brutal way possible. Until now, that man was listening to Sage for his own vested interest, but that too has changed with the arrival of Firecracker. And Neuman won’t be able to control him, even if she became the President of the United States, as he could spill her secret to the world or hurt her daughter to make her bend the knee. Except for these two supes, no one is even remotely powerful enough to take down Homelander in a straight battle, so it all comes down to Butcher and the supe-killing virus that he is forcing Sameer to cook. And yes, Ryan could kill his father, but he isn’t powerful enough yet. Butcher had kept his hopes on the supe-killing virus, but it would mean losing all the supes in the world, including his own son. Butcher is crazy, but he is probably not genocidal. I am sure season 5 will explore the possibilities of how Butcher and his team will deal with this delicate situation while, in the meantime, Homelander will impose authoritarian rule in the country and terrorize people’s lives in the manner he wants.

I also have a theory that Sister Sage knows how to destroy (or kill) Homelander. Even though she isn’t sharing that secret with anyone right now, she might switch sides like A-Train after Homelander takes things too far, especially when it comes to the Black community because, at the end of the day, Homelander is a racist pig too. I mean, that man literally didn’t shy away from taking a dig at people from the LGBTQ community in front of the bureaucrats. What makes you think he wouldn’t hurt people from other races and countries? It shouldn’t be difficult for you to imagine the kind of tyrant he will turn into once he has imposed absolute dictatorship in the country. In short, there is no way out of this situation except to kill Homelander for good.
