‘The Rainmaker’ Episode 7 Recap & Ending Explained: Who Murdered Cliff?

Published

The seventh episode of The Rainmaker mostly focuses on Kelly’s situation. She had been living at Dot Black’s house, but that was obviously not a long-term solution. She needed to make a decision, but it wasn’t easy after everything she’d been through. She was afraid of her abuser showing up and seeking revenge on her for daring to file for divorce. But Kelly didn’t really have a choice. Rudy tried his best to help Kelly. He brought her food and everyday essentials. Also, Dot had been taking good care of her, and they had developed a beautiful bond. One day, while Rudy was buying essentials at a department store, Cliff waited outside in his car. He had decided to follow Rudy to find out where Kelly was hiding. So, did Cliff track down Kelly’s hiding spot? Let’s find out.

Spoiler Alert

Why was Rudy arrested?

There was clearly a spark between Rudy and Kelly. She was grateful to him for helping her out, and all he wanted was for her to stand up for herself. While Kelly didn’t want to discuss her situation, Dot insisted she take the necessary actions instead of delaying the process. She could sense that Kelly was afraid of divorcing Cliff, but she also believed that the only way forward was through. Since she couldn’t ignore Cliff for the rest of her life, she had to learn to deal with the situation. And filing for a divorce was the first stepping stone. Rudy agreed with Dot, and Kelly too realized that while spending a few peaceful days at Dot’s house was great, she had to take control of her own life. Rudy handed Dot the gun that he got from Prince; he wanted them to keep it for protection. Kelly showed apprehension about using the gun; Dot stated that she knew how to use one and she kept it in a kitchen container. While Rudy and Kelly were having a friendly discussion, Dot stepped out of her house and waited for her dog, Daisy, to relieve herself. She was a little concerned when Daisy didn’t return within a few minutes. But after a while, Daisy returned, and Dot reentered the house and locked the door, as instructed by Rudy. It was obvious that Cliff had followed Rudy to Dot’s house, but did he manage to sneakily enter? Turns out, he did. As soon as Kelly entered the washroom, Cliff ‘peek-a-booed’ her from behind the bathroom curtain with a baseball bat in hand. The next thing we know, Rudy was arrested for the murder of Cliff. He claimed to have pulled the trigger in self-defense, and Deck and Bruiser came to his rescue.

Who murdered Cliff?

Bruiser was furious when she discovered that Rudy had taken Kelly to their client’s (Dot Black) house. She reminded him that he’d crossed a line and he should’ve never involved Dot in his mess. She felt all the more hopeless when she discovered that Cliff had once broken into Rudy’s apartment, which meant that Rudy knew the guy and they had a personal beef, which didn’t help his case. There was no doubt that Rudy had made quite a few dubious choices, but he didn’t really have much of an option, and his intentions were always pure. Rudy was brought to court the next morning, and Bruiser tried to convince the judge to grant the young lawyer bail. Robert Quinn, the prosecutor, argued that Rudy was a flight risk, especially considering he was a bright young lawyer who would find the means to elope from the country, and he might end up becoming untraceable. He announced that the state demanded a million dollars to grant Rudy’s bail (an amount he knew Rudy wouldn’t manage to afford). Bruiser pointed out that Rudy was broke, that he had called the emergency helpline himself, and that he didn’t have a criminal record, whereas the deceased was a repeat offender and a known domestic abuser. In the last three years, Kelly had ended up in the hospital four times, and Bruiser believed that should be enough evidence to prove that Cliff was a terrible human being and Rudy was completely innocent. Bruiser requested the judge to grant Rudy bail for five grand, and they celebrated when it was granted. While Rudy was out of prison, he wasn’t completely out of danger. Bruiser tried to make sure that Rudy didn’t share a romantic relationship with Kelly, since that could complicate his case. While Rudy repeatedly stated that wasn’t really what was going on, deep down he knew he’d developed romantic affection for Kelly.

The next day, Bruiser and Deck arrived at the murder scene, and they tried to act out the entire incident as Rudy, Kelly, and Dot had described, but Bruiser soon realized that it was not adding up. Later that night, she confronted Rudy and Kelly. After getting rid of everything that belonged to Cliff, Kelly had asked Rudy to stay back. He rested for a while, and he held her tight when the doorbell rang. They didn’t expect to see Bruiser. She explained why the murder scene didn’t match up with their testimony. While they’d stated that only two shots were fired, after removing the carpet, Bruiser discovered a third bullet mark on the ground, and there was no way Rudy had fired the shot considering he was on the floor and Cliff had him in a chokehold. The angle suggested that someone had fired the shot from the door to the kitchen, and Bruiser was convinced that Kelly was the one who’d pulled the trigger. Rudy chose to take the blame on himself because he didn’t want Kelly to end up in any trouble. Bruiser explained that her silence could put Rudy behind bars forever. But if she chose to tell the truth, then maybe they had a serious shot at winning the case. Kelly decided to confess the truth; she wasn’t ready to put Rudy’s life and career at risk.

How did Bruiser convince the prosecutor to drop the case?

The next morning, Bruiser met Quinn and tried to convince him to drop the case. She showed him photographs of Kelly’s bruises to establish the abuse she’d endured over the years. This time, when he was almost about to kill her, she finally defended herself. Dot Black also spoke in favor of Kelly and stated how dangerous Cliff was. When Quinn asked the reason why Rudy had lied, Rudy apologized for trying to take the blame. Bruiser reminded Cliff that Rudy did so out of fear, because the system didn’t always bring justice, but she believed that if Quinn wanted, he could do the right thing. At the end of The Rainmaker episode 7, Bruiser stepped out of the conference room and announced that Quinn had decided to drop all charges against Rudy, and he’d also chosen not to prosecute Kelly.

Did Rudy and Kelly get into a relationship?

Rudy met Kelly at Dot’s house again. She informed him that Cliff had saved up thirty thousand dollars, and she planned on using the money to start her life afresh. Rudy was heartbroken when he discovered that Kelly planned on moving out of town, but he also understood why it was so important to her. All he ever wanted was for her to be happy, and he was glad to see her take the first step towards being independent and happy. Kelly didn’t know how to thank Rudy; without him she might have still been stuck in an abusive marriage and spent her life in complete misery. Before leaving, Kelly gifted Dot the jewelry box that her son had started making for her; he passed away before he could complete it. Dot got emotional when she saw the gift; even though her son was not by her side, there were signs that suggested that he was watching over her and he wanted her to be happy. She was surrounded by good people, who loved and cared for her, and although life hadn’t turned out the way she’d hoped for, her son surely wouldn’t have wanted her to give up.

What does Leo and Prince’s meeting suggest?

During the ending of The Rainmaker episode 7, Leo handed Prince Thomas a bundle of cash and asked him to get rid of Melvin Pritcher. Their conversation revealed that Prince had previously worked for Leo, and their arrangement had resulted in Lionel, aka Bruiser’s father’s arrest. According to what Quinn, who was also the prosecutor in Lionel’s case, had told Bruiser, the DA’s office had recorded a coded conversation between Lionel and Prince that suggested he had something to do with Rosalie Sutton’s disappearance, and it resulted in his arrest. Does that mean Lionel was used as a scapegoat and there was something bigger at play? Lionel was clearly afraid of Leo, so what history did the two share? Also, was Prince responsible for Rosalie’s death? There is clearly a lot left to unfold, and the final few episodes of The Rainmaker will delve into Lionel’s arrest, and we’ll find out how the truth will impact Bruiser’s life. Meanwhile, Melvin Pritcher is still on the loose, and the fact that Jackie had left the flash drive with her ex-boyfriend, Charlie, suggests that he might attempt to attack Charlie to get the document that Jackie stole from the Tissue Committee report. The flash drive is the key, and only Jackie and Charlie know where it is, so if Melvin threatens to kill Jackie, maybe she’ll end up confessing the truth to him. Though will Jackie risk Charlie’s life? That is up for the audience to speculate on.
