The Royals’ ending was quite disappointing because we just saw Aviraaj and Sophia get together before they split up, leaving us hanging. The ending was a little bit all over the place, because not only did the show attempt to set up a dozen new plot points, it also rushed some of the old ones, making it all just feel a bit cramped. On the whole, the show is focused on the “will they, won’t they” of things, until the end, where we get to see some new doors opening. I genuinely enjoyed the arcs of some of the supporting characters way more than the lead couple because they just seemed to feel less cardboard, and I wish the show had explored their stories a little bit more. But I guess that’s what a second season would be for, to get further into the characters that were mostly sidelined in the first season, while still keeping in mind who the two leads are.
There are a few things we’re certain of: Aviraaj is king, Adi Mehta, i.e. Maurice didn’t leak the information, Dhondi did, and Jinnie is not happy with Sheet Mahal. Already, Aviraaj’s relationship with his mum had become fragile when he learnt that she knew his dad was gay and had a partner. So, finding out that he is an illegitimate son definitely makes this situation much worse for them, and I’m not sure he will ever recover, though I would hope he does. But with that said, here are some ways in which I think the show might move forward if there’s a second season. Nothing is confirmed at the time of writing this article.
Spoiler Alert
What Will Sophia Do?
In The Royals’ ending, Sophia is basically left hanging by Aviraaj because he walks away from her physically, which could signify an emotional departure too, at least for a little while. Of course, he’s going to believe his entire life’s been a lie, and he’s going to deteriorate and try to run away yet again because that’s just what his personality is like. I think the Sophia-Aviraaj company might come about at some point, but it won’t be any time soon, so at the moment, Sophia may not have any choice but to go back to Zubin and WorkPotato. Technically, it is her company, but I do hope she’s able to take it from the board. The only issue here is that the Royal B&B in Morpur is definitely going to be in big trouble with the scandal that’s been leaked, so we’ll be spending some time watching Sophia handle damage control. I wonder if the connection with Salad and Alsipur will be handy in this situation, though, because they have been considering doing another B&B there.
Will Aviraaj Leave The Throne?
I’m not sure there are any real consequences to becoming the king of Morpur. I know that Aviraaj keeps talking about how the crown ruined his dad’s life, but I think that’s only in reference to him being gay and the weight of protecting the family. I don’t know if the king really has any responsibilities to his people (subjects) other than looking cool and possibly running a B&B? I’m not sure, but it would be nice to see him do some admin work if that’s what it’s supposed to be in the second season. But additionally, I think the pressure will get to him, and we already know he’s quite impulsive, so I’m hoping he doesn’t take a rash decision because he wants to run away from his problems, again. But, in case he does decide to throw the crown away, neither Diggy nor Jinnie seem to be interested in taking the throne, so what exactly will happen to Motibagh? I’m not entirely sure. But I have a feeling Jinnie might be able to step into those shoes and take that responsibility because she feels neglected by her family.
Will Jinnie Become The Villain?
I really hope the lesbian daughter who has nothing to her name doesn’t end up becoming the grand villain of the second season just because she’s fickle and keeps bad company. I like Jinnie and Nikki together very much, and I think Nikki could’ve actually helped Jinnie make the right decisions when things had slowed down. But Jinnie decided to go to Ayesha instead, and she’s a fighter. Now, after the news about Aviraaj’s lineage has come out, Jinnie might not sue her brothers, but she could also claim that the throne is rightfully hers and all of that stuff. Now, while this is perfectly fair, I just hope it doesn’t mean she will be the bad guy to make Aviraaj realize what he has to do with his own life. I would much prefer external villains like Zubin and Dhondi. I also think Diggy will not go to London for the Gastronautics finals. I would honestly love to see some sibling love, with everybody coming together rather than grow apart, like the finale indicates.
What Else Is Padmaja Hiding?
Dhondi says Padmaja and he have made two mistakes earlier when she says she wants to erase their one mistake. Now, I don’t know if this just means having an affair, or if it implies that he is Aviraaj’s dad. But if that is the case, why would the parents push Aviraaj and Ayesha to get together when they would be half-siblings? So I suppose the big mystery to solve here is, who is the dad?
Will There Be New Characters?
While we got rid of 1/3rd of the love triangle of this season, Sophia’s ex-boyfriend and partner, Kunal, I wouldn’t be surprised if another competitor pops in next season. Of course, there was also Ayesha, but she might want to take revenge on Aviraaj, which is why she’s adding fuel to the flame through Jinnie. I think romance might take the back seat in the next season, which will be quite disappointing, but if we get some new characters to rock the boat, things will be back on track, I guess. I also think Adi Mehta might become a more prominent character in the second season, but I wonder if the family will lose Motibagh. What are your expectations of The Royals season 2? Do you think Aviraaj and Sophia are endgame?
