In episode 3 of Tulsa King Season 3, Musso took Dwight on a little expedition to Texas, where the latter had to use his powers of intimidation and manipulation to bring a terrorist named Deacon under his thumb. While Dwight got the job done, he was confused as to why Musso was using him for a covert operation instead of deploying a proper task force or an undercover agent. That’s when it became apparent that Musso had gone rogue and was using Dwight’s temporary vulnerability to do an unsanctioned hit on Deacon because he had some personal vendetta against this terrorist. While Dwight was doing all that, Cleo went off the rails and tried to avenge her father by killing Jeremiah. If Mitch hadn’t restrained her and Jeremiah wasn’t feeling generous that day, Cleo would’ve gotten herself killed. She was lucky to walk away unscathed. The same can’t be said about Tyson, Grace, Bodhi, and Goodie. These 4 went on a mission to poke Cole by infiltrating his shifty bingo establishment. When Cole poked back, Tyson got kidnapped and was forced to reveal the location of the bourbon barrel storage unit—or else Cole would have killed a stripper named Serenity—and Tyson chose to save Serenity over the bourbon. Did Tyson pay for the consequences of his stupid actions? Let’s talk about episode 4 to find out.
Spoiler Alert
Dwight Plans To Retrieve The Booze
Episode 4 of Tulsa King Season 3 opens with Dwight giving his crew an earful for messing things up so royally that their distillery can’t function properly anymore. Even though he knows that Tyson is responsible for this whole mess, he reprimands Goodie, Bodhi, and Grace for not keeping an eye on him because, as per his rules, a family looks out for each other at all times. But after, instead of partaking in an extended round of “who is at fault,” Dwight assigns some tasks to his team so as to repair the damage that has been dealt by the Dunmires. He tells Bodhi to look into the Dunmires’ distribution website, see if any of the stolen booze has been listed there, and track down where he’s storing it currently. Grace is assigned the job of finding the most expensive wholesalers so that if and when Dwight gets the booze back, he can get it moving immediately. Tyson is expectedly benched for the time being so that he can do some soul-searching about how he messed everything up.
However, as soon as Dwight exits the building to go and meet Bill, Tyson goes into defensive mode and begins bickering with Grace and Bodhi. Speaking of Bill, he is apparently concerned about Armand and wants to know what he is doing. Given how Armand isn’t a priority at the moment, Dwight puts that to the side and points out that the Dunmires have stolen their booze and killed some of Bill’s men. As if they weren’t angry enough already, when Bodhi shows footage of the theft, they absolutely lose their composure. Now, while Bill and Dwight go after the owner of the truck that was used to steal the booze, Tyson and Mark team up to one-up Cole. Bill goes into the truck driver’s house to intimidate him and learn about the location of the booze. But the truck driver tries to kill Bill; hence, Bill has no option but to shoot the guy in the head, which brings all of them back to square one because they still have no clue where the booze is at.
Some Miscellaneous Subplots
A brief cutaway to New York informs us that, after learning about Dwight’s booze business in Tulsa from Bill, Vince has decided to go to Quiet Ray to inform him about it. Quiet Ray takes in that piece of information and then tells him to get out of his apartment. In addition to that, there are a bunch of subplots that are unfolding. One involves Cal and Margaret having a conversation about the former’s political aspirations—where Margaret says that she’ll help Cal win the gubernatorial elections if Cal sells his share of her ranch to her—and the other features Bodhi creating an AI-generated mascot to sell booze made by Montague Distilleries. No, Tulsa King hasn’t used actual generative AI; it’s the actor Clayton Farris playing the AI-generated character, Jasper. Well, okay, that’s not all that Bodhi has been doing. On top of messing around with Jasper, Bodhi has made a dent in the Dunmires’ business operations by hacking into their cloud.
When Cole complains about this to Jeremiah, instead of blaming the IT guys for failing to counter Bodhi’s online sorcery, Jeremiah chastises Cole for hiring incompetent people who can’t get their job done. In order to win back some of the lost trust, Cole asks Jeremiah to come with him and check the stolen booze, which he has burgled for his father. Jeremiah doesn’t give Cole any instant gratification and says that he’ll oblige his request later on. On top of all this, we get a pretty pointless scene featuring Mitch and Cleo, who are worried about the stolen booze, but they can’t do anything until they get any intel on it. I know that they are supposed to inject romance into this show, but since the actors have no chemistry, Mitch and Cleo aren’t doing it for me. I think whatever’s cooking between Cal, Margaret, and Dwight is more than enough.
Tyson Discovers Serenity’s True Nature
Going back to Dwight, as soon as he steps foot into Montague Distilleries, he gets a call from Musso telling him to go easy on the booze business and lay low until Deacon contacts him. It’s still unclear how Musso knows everything about what Dwight is doing; either there’s a mole in Dwight’s crew or Musso has bugged everything that Dwight owns. I guess we’ll find out all about it later. For now, the focus of the episode shifts to Tyson and Mark staking out what looks like the warehouse where Cole hosts his bingo games. While they are chatting about Serenity, what Mark used to do back in the day, and adopting a simple lifestyle, instead of Cole, Serenity walks out of the warehouse. This makes it clear that Serenity wasn’t a random stripper who approached Tyson at the club. She is an employee of Cole, and she was told to do so in order to make Tyson vulnerable enough to be kidnapped. Additionally, when Cole was threatening to kill Serenity—because of which Tyson sacrificed the booze—she wasn’t in any real danger. Cole knew that Tyson was an inherently nice guy and even the illusion of the possible death of an innocent human being would cause him to crack. But now that her jig is up, Tyson and Mike begin following Serenity so that they have some payback.
Back at the distillery, Dwight and Joanne are seen doing some paperwork, which is interrupted by Margaret. She is there to tell him about her arrangement with Cal. Dwight doesn’t like the idea of Margaret campaigning for Cal because it’ll make them look like a couple. But he accepts the arrangement because, at the end of the day, he needs Cal to become governor so that his illicit activities can be carried out smoother than ever. This conversation between Margaret and Dwight is interrupted by a call from Tyson, who updates the boss man about the investigation he and his dad have done and the fact that he thinks that following Serenity will lead them to the rail yard, which is where the stolen booze has been stashed by Cole. As soon as Tyson and Mark get there, they inform Bigfoot, who arrives at the scene with Dwight, Bill, and Mitch.
Dwight Retrieves the Booze
At the end of Tulsa King Season 3, episode 4, while the Dunmires are busy tasting the liquor handcrafted by the Montagues, Dwight and his crew surround the railyard. As soon as Cole steps out, Dwight and his folks capture him and hold him hostage until Jeremiah agrees to give up the stolen booze. Jeremiah low-key shocks Dwight by saying that his own son is not worth all those barrels of liquor; hence, Dwight has to offer him something more, in addition to Cole’s life, if he wants his booze back. However, when Jeremiah realizes that Dwight won’t bow down to his absurd demands, he allows Dwight and his crew to take back their property in exchange for his son’s life. Jeremiah says that he won’t stop trying to steal that booze back, and Dwight essentially says that, now that he knows Jeremiah’s ways, burgling him again won’t be that easy.
Later that night, Dwight is seen having a chat with Margaret about how things are falling into place, and he thinks that everything is going to be fine from now onwards. Unbeknownst to him though, Quiet Ray has gotten in touch with Bill, essentially telling him that he is willing to work with Bill if he wants to take over Dwight’s booze business or maybe his whole empire. What is Bill going to do? This episode showed that Dwight and Bill had reached some kind of middle ground because both of them wanted to punish Jeremiah for hurting them. However, the thing with Bill is that he doesn’t like sharing. Given the option, he’d like to rule over Tulsa. And if Ray is on his way to attaining the crown, I have a feeling that he’ll take it. That said, there’s a fair chance that he’ll surprise the doubters by actually working with Dwight to lure Ray into a trap and bring his constant meddling to a close. We’ll see. Anyway, those are just my thoughts on this episode. If you have any opinions on the same, feel free to share them in the comments section below.
