I think I would have liked Disney’s Twelve more if it would have focused more on the lore than the food and pigs. But that’s just me, and you are certainly not looking for my opinion. So, jumping straight into the recap of the second episode, it finally explained the reason why Taesan and the rest of the guardian angels stopped helping the humans a long time ago. In the past, Taesan and Mirr came across a group of bandits who had been extorting the villagers, and Taesan decided to help them, but while fighting the miscreant, Mirr accidentally revealed her “wind” powers. Initially, Taesan, who had put his faith in humanity, didn’t think that the villagers would mind the presence of supernatural beings; however, at night these very people brought them spiked wine to render them unconscious. When Taesan and other angels woke up, they saw Mirr tied to a wooden pole. The villagers called her names and were going to burn her. They thought she was a witch, even though she was the very same person who saved them from the bandits. But humans could never be grateful. Taesan and the other angels learned this the hard way, and as soon as he came back to his senses, he saved Mirr and told his angel companions that as long as they lived, they would never get involved with humans again. In the present day, Taesan and his friends had found a new vocation. They started a loan company, Angel Capital Group, that only lent money to ex-convicts and gangsters so that they could conduct business without hurting the good guys or committing any crimes. Well, that was just the premise of the show, and the real conflict arrived when an evil high priest, Samin, awakened a demon, Ogwi, to bring death and darkness upon the human world. But how was he going to do that? Let’s find out.
Spoiler Alert
The Hunt For The Stones
I guess you remember from the opening prologue of episode 1 that the twelve guardian angels not only killed the dark lord, Haetae, but also used their powers to close down Hellmouth, the very source of evil. Twelve hasn’t exactly explained how and why the angels lost their powers, but I guess it has something to do with their battle with Haetae, and maybe we will find out more about that in the upcoming episodes. However, it wasn’t just the angels who lost their powers and started living in their human forms. The demons suffered the same fate. The high priest of darkness, Samin, told Ogwi that it took him thousands of years to find his prison, because he didn’t have any powers left after Haetae died and Hellmouth was sealed. But you see, Samin seems like a dark sorcerer who can pull off magic tricks even without any supernatural abilities, which makes him more powerful than the angels, who are stuck living as mere humans, right?
Nevertheless, the reason why Samin freed Ogwi from the prison the angels consigned him to was because he wanted the winged demon to find the three soul stones that Haetae had left behind before his death. Samin believed that these stones were the source of Haetae’s powers, and once Ogwi had located them and fed their energy into the Dragon Stone, Ogwi would be able to revive Haetae’s powers and become as powerful as the dark lord himself, so he could finally take his revenge on the angels who had banished him to hell for all eternity. But it seems like Ogwi couldn’t take on the angels alone, which was why he needed Haetae’s powers to exact his vengeance. But what will Samin get in return? Oh, just immortality—that’s what he was looking for.
In Twelve’s universe, the Dragon Stone controls the energy of all angels and demons, which I guess will also help Taesan and his group get their powers back. If you remember, in episode 1, Ma-Rok, the oldest angel, who worked as a detective, was watching the news, which mentioned that the authorities had recovered a number of ancient relics that date back to the Paleolithic Era from an apartment redevelopment site in Seoul. And one of these excavated relics was a shiny golden stone, which I guess was either the Dragon Stone or one of the three Soul Stones. However, it’s likely to be one of the Soul Stones because Ma-Rok, who was watching the news report, might have recognized the Dragon Stone. Additionally, this very stone that the authorities had found started showing abnormal spikes, which I believe has something to do with Ogwi. Maybe it was Haetae’s power that had been calling to him through the stone?
Samin Tries to Abduct Mirr
I think with the way the show is focusing more on Mirr instead of the other angels, it just wants to tell us that Mirr will have a larger role to play in the upcoming battle. Firstly, it was Mirr who got a vision about the arrival of the demon, even before Ogwi was summoned. This was the reason why she kept checking her locket, which started to glow at the end of episode 2. I guess this talisman could detect the evil powers, which had finally emerged from the shadows to take over the world. Secondly, it was Mirr who crossed paths with Ogwi once he returned to the surface, and for some reason, both could sense their presence. Actually, it was Ogwi whom Mirr had seen in her vision, which, for some reason, compels me to make a wild guess that in the upcoming episodes, we might end up seeing a potential romance between an angel and a demon. I mean, that will be wild, right? The look on Ogwi’s face when he was sitting alone in the park tells me that he may have a change of heart in the end, but that’s just my theory. But as of now, I think it’s safe to assume that Ogwi and Mirr have a connection, or Mirr is really important to Samin’s grand plan, because why else would he send his minions to abduct her?
In Twelve episode 2’s ending, Samin used his dark powers to convert some of his human thugs into agents of chaos and sent them after Mirr. For a guy who said he had lost all his abilities, Samin still has a lot of powers, right? Nevertheless, as soon as Samin’s minions passed through a demonic portal, the lockets (which all the angels had) started to glow to alert the gang that one of them was in danger. Kang-ji, using her powers, could see Samin’s hooded thugs in a car, driving somewhere fast, and therefore the team quickly gathered at the HQ to discuss their plan of action. However, they couldn’t reach their boss, Taesan, as he was napping at the doctor’s clinic, which was why the young lot decided to protect Mirr all by themselves and arrived at the parking lot of the museum where Mirr worked as a guide. However, the young angels were no match against Samin’s evil-powered thugs, and the episode ended without revealing their fate.
In Twelve episode 2’s closing shot, we saw Ma-Rok arriving at the parking lot, but the question still remains the same: will he be able to protect Mirr alone? Taesan seemed to be the most powerful angel; however, he doesn’t know where the other angels are or what kind of trouble they are in. However, Taesan did find his glowing locket; hence, he knows that there’s something really bad going down. But if you ask me who’s going to save Mirr from Samin’s thugs, then I believe it’s Ogwi. I mean, I could be wrong, but like I said earlier, Ogwi and Mirr have a connection, which will most likely be explored in the next episodes.
