‘Typhoon Family’ Episodes 9-10 Recap & Ending Explained: What Happens To The Helmets?

Published

Episodes 9 and 10 of Typhoon Family do heavily focus on the romance between Tae-Poong and Mi-Seon, and I want to fight whoever forced me to see a post on Instagram about Kim Min-Ha not being a good match for Lee Joon-Hoo. I’m sorry, have you not seen Pachinko? Just because she doesn’t force herself to fit Korean beauty standards, ugh, makes me so frustrated. Anyway, I think they have excellent chemistry, and I definitely felt it in all the cute moments in these two episodes, especially the one on the train. For the longest time, I thought this show was ending next week with 12 episodes, too, but we’ve just crossed the halfway mark. I feel like Typhoon Family is going to be an underrated gem this year, because I haven’t seen many people talk about it, but there’s something nostalgic about it, and it’s genuinely fun. With that said, let’s jump into episodes 9 and 10.

Spoiler Alert

How Does The Team Save Ma-Jin?

Episode 9 of Typhoon Family is about Go Ma-Jin being stuck in a Thai prison and the team risking everything to save him. The episode begins with Mi-Seon and Tae-Poong figuring out why Ma-Jin is in prison, and Ma-Jin making a Thai friend in there, too. Mi-Seon and Tae-Poong try to find help at the embassy and learn that if it’s a small amount, i.e., less than 200 dollars, their friend will be released soon. Ma-Jin gave the Thai customs officers 50 dollars, which is a much smaller amount than the threshold, too. This note in particular was also special to him because his dad had given it to him. Anyway, Ma-Jin makes a friend in prison who can speak Korean and claims he worked in the country for 4 years. He tells Ma-Jin that he likes his style and about how if it’s a small amount, there’ll be a trial in the morning, and everything will be okay. However, the next thing we know, the man walks out wearing Ma-Jin’s jacket, and Mi-Seon and Tae-Poong are told that Ma-Jin’s been accused of bribing an official with 10,000 dollars. Because of this mess, though, the deal with Nihakham is lost, and even though Mi-Seon makes a really good case for the team, they don’t accept. However, the daughter does come back to give Tae-Poong her card and ask him to bring her a product that is innovative in the IT department. Meanwhile, Hyun-Jun tries to impress his dad, claiming he’s found the product that they should sell next, but the guy literally doesn’t care about how things work and is only concerned about Typhoon Trading, which is obviously not the way to do business, and it’s eventually going to backfire.

At night, Mi-Seon and Tae-Poong have a cozy sidewalk conversation over some watermelon juice. She’s fascinated by the idea that watermelons can be juiced too, but it leads to her talking about her family and how she thinks she’s a bad person because she feels lighter now that she’s away from them and was actually excited about this trip. She’s just been so exhausted from being a makeshift mom for so long; of course she’d feel this way, but Tae-Poong uses this moment to be romantic and try to kiss Mi-Seon, but she pushes him off. We need to be teased a little, you know?

But finally, Mi-Seon realizes she’s got pictures of the bribe, and they can be used as evidence that it was only 50 dollars that Ma-Jin gave the officer, and that too during the day. The duo look for a photo studio, but it’s already too late and it’s shut. When they beg and plead, the guy agrees to do it in a few hours after they offer him three thousand baht and Tae-Poong’s watch. On the other hand, back at home, Mi-Ho and Nam-Mo’s romance is growing until one day, Nam-Mo’s mother learns she’s been swindled by a pyramid scheme she’d put all her money into, and they have to close down their pub. He doesn’t end up going to pick up Mi-Ho from work because he got late himself, but he walks her home in silence from the corner they usually meet at. Mi-Ho immediately realizes something is wrong but pushes Nam-Mo to talk. He tells her what’s happened, but from the shadow away from the light, so she can’t see how sad he really is. She gives him a hug to assure him that he doesn’t need to hide these things from her and instead, feel free to be emotional. These two are just as cute as the leading couple, please.

The next day, Mi-Seon is the one who’s waiting at the store while Tae-Poong goes ahead to make sure Ma-Jin feels supported. The photo guy tells her not to take a taxi because there’s too much traffic and even returns the watch. But Mi-Seon ends up losing the photographs in the water when she crashes into a man. However, the film is safe, and she makes it to court. Tae-Poong then realizes he can project the pictures on the wall with a torch to prove Ma-Jin didn’t give the man 10,000 dollars. Finally, Ma-Jin is free.

What Happens To The Helmets?

In episode 10, the gang isn’t able to go to customs to collect the helmets, which have been impounded because of the case. However, by taking someone’s scooter and a tuk-tuk, they manage to get near the port. But when the scooter breaks down, Mi-Seon tells Ma-Jin (who took her with him instead of Tae-Poong, finally realizing her value) that she’ll run to the place because it’ll be the fastest way to get there before it’s too late. However, by the time she gets there, the helmets are already getting unloaded, and the agents don’t even bother holding off when she tries to grab onto the helmets with her bare hands. By the time they arrive, it’s too late, and most of the helmets have been destroyed. Finally, after all of this, Mi-Seon breaks down, because despite working so hard, they were not able to make a sale or save the product. But Ma-Jin acknowledges how hard Mi-Seon has worked and how he underestimated her. He admits to being in the wrong, despite being older and experienced, and that he might finally start respecting women.

Somehow, even though things have been so difficult, Tae-Poong doesn’t hold back on telling Mi-Seon how much he likes her, and they finally kiss, this time for real. At the same time, Ma-Jin actually might’ve managed to sell the 140 helmets. When they’re meant to be going back, Tae-Poong assumes he and Mi-Seon are already dating, but she thinks to herself about how he hasn’t even asked her out. When they get home, Tae-Poong immediately disappears in his work while Mi-Seon spends time with her family, genuinely happy to be back. It appears Tae-Poong is realizing he can’t afford this office, either, so he makes a big decision: renting half of Nam-Mo’s pub space for the time being, until they have enough money to return to the office. On the other hand, Nam-Mo heads to the Oh household and makes everyone a delicious meal in the guise of spending time with Tae-Poong, who isn’t even there. Grandma is quickly able to catch on to the fact that Mi-Ho and Nam-Mo might be a thing.

The ending of Typhoon Family episode 10 isn’t a happy one, though. Pyo Bak-Ho is finally coming after the promissory note he had from Tae-Poong’s dad. Bak-Ho finds Cha Seon-Taek and asks where his IOU is, as we know a page is missing from a notebook, and something is amiss. Did she do something? Was she the one who took the page out? At the same time, Tae-Poong appears to be learning about the same thing. What happened that one August 17th? Hopefully, we’ll find out soon.
